Pro Clear Aquatic Systems FAQs
Are ProClear aquariums & sumps suitable for both fresh and saltwater aquariums?
Many Pro Clear aquarium systems are suitable for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums, including ProStar rimless systems and ProStar AIO aquariums. For sumps, it depends on the specific model. RedFlex 4-in-1 sumps are designed to be convertible for freshwater or saltwater use, while EcoReef and RedFlex Reef sumps are designed specifically with reef and saltwater filtration in mind.
What is the difference between RedFlex and EcoReef Sump Systems?
RedFlex sumps are the more feature-rich option, with a red and white acrylic design, bubble diffusers, probe holders, dosing line holders, cord management, filter socks, adjustable water flow, and depending on the model, a chemical media canal and convertible freshwater or saltwater configuration. EcoReef sumps use a cleaner white and clear design with a simpler reef-focused layout, including filter bags, an adjustable water gate, bulkhead assemblies, flexible hoses, and a foam block. In short, RedFlex is the more flexible and equipment-focused sump, while EcoReef is a simpler, modern reef sump with a streamlined layout.
Do Pro Clear ProStar aquariums include filtration and what is included?
Yes. ProStar Rimless V2 aquarium systems include the aquarium, matching stand, sump filtration system, ATO reservoir, and plumbing fittings. The sump helps keep equipment organized below the aquarium, while the ATO reservoir helps replace water lost to evaporation. A return pump is not included, so one will need to be purchased separately.
What is the recommended flow rate for the Rimless AIO aquariums?
ProStar Rimless AIO aquariums do not include a return pump, so the pump must be selected separately. As a general guideline, choose a return pump that provides roughly 3 to 5 times the aquarium volume per hour after head pressure and plumbing loss. For the 23 gallon AIO, that puts the target around 70 to 115 GPH. For the 35 gallon AIO, that puts the target around 105 to 175 GPH. Additional in-tank flow can then be handled with a separate powerhead if needed.
What else do I need to buy to get my ProStar aquarium up and running?
For a ProStar Rimless V2 system, the aquarium, stand, sump filtration system, ATO reservoir, and plumbing fittings are included, but a return pump is not included. You will also need aquarium lighting, heater, water movement pumps, substrate, rock, salt mix or freshwater supplies, test kits, and any filtration equipment your setup requires, such as a protein skimmer, media, filter socks, or other accessories. For saltwater systems, you may also want an RO/DI system and an auto top off pump or controller to pair with the included ATO reservoir.
Do ProStar aquariums feature low-iron, beveled edge glass?
Yes. ProStar rimless aquariums are built with ultra-clear, low-iron glass for improved clarity compared to standard glass. The rimless design and polished presentation help create a clean, modern display that keeps the focus on the aquascape and livestock.
