  • Good Skimmer, but a little tough to get dialed in By Ken on 8/15/2017

I purchased this for a new 135Gallon set up. It works great and skims like a champ, when its dialed in. However, I seem to have some trouble getting it to be consistent. It will be running fine for days or even a week or two, producing a nice dark skimmate. Then suddenly it will will overflow with a really light watery skimmate in the course of a couple hours out of the blue. Mostly it runs great, hence the 4 stars. I just wish I could figure out what I am doing wrong.
  • Works Well By Mike on 2/6/2017

I had a 10 yr old skimmer and upgraded to the SM203 DC. it was like going from a Yugo to a Ferrari. After about 3 weeks the Skimz was producing thick skimmate. It does take some tinkering between the DC motor, air intake valve and water intake to get the skimmer working to full capacity. Only complaint, there are no instructions on how to dial things in. I called BRS customer service for help. Within minutes they walked me through the set up. Very happy with this product. FYI - the name says it all Monzter. Make sure you have enough space in your sump to fit this machine.
  • Great Skimmer By Golden Pond on 1/14/2017

I've been running this skimmer over a year and I've abused it pretty well. Not maintaining and cleaning the pump as often as I should, but works great and is super Quiet. Pulls a ton of air for gas exchange especially when running a line outside. Worked so well I ordered the smaller version for my 140 gal system.
  • Good Skimmer By Tsteak on 8/30/2016

I've only had this skimmer a couple weeks. The only negative is micro-bubbles, in my setup this is a big one; they need to incorporate an internal bubble trap of some kind, as a pretty large quantity escape. Other than that, it started pulling gunk immediately, and officially broke in after about a week. After break in I had to re-tune it, as it started skimming extremely wet. Now that its broken/braking in the bubbles in the neck seem to be getting finer every day, and it is skimming better and better. As long as the pump lasts, I'll be very happy with this skimmer.
  • Pump keeps this from being a great skimmer By Steve on 6/4/2016

I purchased this skimmer from a LFS, through BRS in April 2015, as of today I am on my 3rd pump. First pump fluctuated all the time, levels rising and falling for no apparent reason. My first interaction with BRS on this was not very good was told lots of things to do but nothing resolved issue. In Feb, with different CS person, the pump was replaced. Worked great for 3 1/2 months then died. Again BRS replaced the pump, currently being shipped. So I am on my 3rd pump in less than 14 months. After initial contact customer service has been great. My concern is, am I going to receive another junk pump. When it is working correctly (which hasn't been often) this skimmer is really nice, pulls a ton of stuff from the water column and is extremely silent. The bottom line is without a good pump it is not a good skimmer.
  • Great quality skimmer By William on 5/8/2016

I've had my 240 up and running for almost 10 years, and have probably been through 10 skimmer designs in that time. This skimmer is by far the best, easiest to maintain skimmer I have ever owned. Don't have a lot of room between the top of the sump and the stand? You can completely disassemble this skimmer and take it out in pieces for cleaning. It generates a ton of air, is easily set and adjusted, and the pump is completely silent. I couldn't be happier with this skimmer.
  • Excellent Control By Drukyulgoods on 1/9/2016

This is the most flexible skimmer I've owned in my many years. I've replaced my Octopus Regal with this device and I am impressed daily. Having three points of control, (dc pump speed, needle air input, & input flow gate) allows one to finely tune the device. The amount of junk this thing pulls out of the water column is astonishing. Highly recommended.
  • Great value By jsbull on 1/2/2016

I was lucky enough to get this on Black Friday. I figured I'd give it a shot since BRS picked a Skimz for their demo video tank. I also have a 9" deep sump and this is one of the only skimmer rated for that depth.

It was working fine, but I ended up buying 2 1" Marinepure ceramic squares. They fit perfect under the Skimz and lift it up to a better operating depth.

My tank has cycled and been running now for about a month. I only have 2 clowns, 3 firefish, a midas blenny and a handful of corals, but I get a great skimmate.

As long as it is running, I'll be happy with it.
  • Skims like a Monster By Brain in a Vat on 12/19/2015

Coming from a ASM G1X, nothing could prepare me for what my tank has been missing for so many years...a real skimmer. This puppy is pulling over 20 lpm of air. I'm getting tired of emptying the skimmer cup (which is enormous, btw). I'm very happy with it. Worth every penny. :D
  • New pump needed first day By Jason on 12/19/2015

I recently purchased this skimmer on the black Friday sale. First I want to say BRS to this point has been amazing. The first day I got the skimmer I plugged it in and put it in the sump. Upon adding power I could immediately tell something wasn't right. Hardly any air in the water column. I adjusted it to let it break in. Within the first 24 hrs the motor/DC controller shut down. This is plugged directly into a wall with no controller and has constant power.

BRS customer service had a new pump out to me the next day. I will update as soon as the new motor is received. It has been 11 days now and the package seems to be stuck in Chicago.

But I want to make sure everyone understand BRS has been amazing thus far in their support.
  • Great product.... By Rad Perez on 12/14/2015

This skimmer is just amazing once it's dialed in. It took several days to break in but once it did, Wow does it pull stuff out of the water. No instructions come with the skimmer on how to adjust settings but a quick look at YouTube and your good to go!
  • Pump is junk! By Ron on 8/28/2015

Pump died after 13 months! I see I am not the only one with this problem. I have a bubble magus skimmer that's been running on the original pump for 5 years.
