Proper Coral Health & Nutrition
Coral nutrition in a reef aquarium is primarily supported through photosynthesis by symbiotic algae known as zooxanthellae, living within the coral's tissues. These algae provide energy to the coral through the photosynthesis of sunlight and additional nutrients. However, corals also capture plankton and organic matter from the water column using their tentacles, supplementing their diet and ensuring a balanced nutrition necessary for growth and health in a controlled aquarium environment. This dual method of feeding is crucial for the sustained health, growth, and vibrancy of corals in reef aquariums.
