Robert would recommend this product to a friendI ordered this skimmer earlier this year and found it's well built!!! There are a couple things to keep in mind. It is advertised as having dual pump input ports....it doesn't have 2 input ports, only 1(wish they would change this in the product description for those it matters to ). The other thing is there is no manual included with the skimmer, I downloaded one from Vertex here; http://www.vertexaquaristik.com/Portals/0/products/proteinSkimmers/internalSkimmers/alphaSeries/skimmerManual.pdf. ............ you are paying the extra $ for the best and not getting any documentation?!!!!, Vertex could definitely do a better job here!! With this said I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again, The skimmer is GREAT and that's what matters!!! BRS was ready to take care of the dual port not being there but, it I didn't need it in my case. It's reassuring to know BRS does back up what they sell and that is great piece of mind when you are spending big $, nice job! THANKS BRS !!!!!!! -

BK would recommend this product to a friendFirst off, this skimmer is not cheap. Heck, who would pay $800+ for a protein skimmer when an entire tank setup can be had for this price. But if you are the rare aquarist who wants the absolute best, this is the skimmer for you. First off, it's super quiet- a friend of mine remarked that he couldn't hear anything from the red dragon pump. Second, the construction is rock solid - titanium screws, cast acrylic, nothing flimsy. Finally, this skimmer pulls so much thick, nasty green stuff from my tank that within days, my sump water was clear again without a green tinge. Buy it once and use for life! -

Eric would recommend this product to a friendSave yourself some frustration and money and buy the best skimmer the first time around. This skimmer is whisper quite and the performance is hands down the best I have seen. I have only been running the skimmer 4 days and it has out performed a $500 skimmer and a $600 skimmer I purchased prior. -

mjd would recommend this product to a friendThis is my 4th and hopefully final skimmer. All I can say is that, you only get what you pay for (I have skimped on my skimmers in the past - couldn't justify the massive expense) and now I learned my lesson. This thing rocks!

I'm looking to put this into my 40br sump which is 18" exterior. How close is the actual foot print measurement, would this fit in there?

It really depends on the other dimension you have to work with. The 10" dimension could by put the short direction on the tank, and the 18" dimension could be placed the long way with the tank. The tank I know is 36" across but it also depends on how you may have installed baffles, etc. If you don't have any baffles or have flexibility to move them it shouldn't be any issue to use them though.
