Best for cleaning By ReefDVMs on 4/30/13
ReefDVMs would recommend this product to a friendThese are hands down the best checks to clean out, they make it so easy -
GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR By MAREK on 12/4/12
MAREK would recommend this product to a friendIt’s the best check valve on the market. I switched from a different brand. George Fisher check valve is more expensive but worth it. -
Good materials, but does not reliable By Kevin on 7/6/12
Kevin wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI was very impressed with this check valve out of the box, but it fails to close 1 out of 10 times during my feed cycle. I have two of these plumbed into two different returns, and both exhibit the same behavior. The units have been used for less than 3-4 weeks, so they are not dirty. I am disappointed in the performance given the high cost. -
Simple and functional By Kyle on 5/19/12
Kyle would recommend this product to a friendI purchased this check valve because I was skeptical of the cheaper flapper-style ones. Replacing plumbing is not something that I enjoy doing, so I wanted to get a quality valve that would last. This valve works exactly as it's designed to and is very easy to disassemble and clean. One thing to think about though is the pump that you plan on using with this valve. I have a Tunze Silence 1073.05 that is variable speed and I found that I needed to have it nearly cranked to the max to provide enough pressure to raise the valve. This is fine because I run my return pump wide open anyway, but if you have a less powerful pump, you might find that it isn't powerful enough to open the valve. Overall, a great product worth the price and I would certainly recommend it if you're looking for a check valve. -
beautiful piece By Sergio on 5/2/12
Sergio would recommend this product to a friendworks great and is very well made, spend the extra dollars! -
great valve, but call for sizing By Hugo on 3/17/12
Hugo would recommend this product to a friendi have .75" flexible tubing in my sump, and figured this would fit. The slip ends themselves are actually 1" and 1/16" inches, my .75" tubing wont fit. The valve: Inner diameter is .75", outer slip fit diameter 1.0625 (1" and 1/16"), end to end is 6.25" and at the widest part it is 3.375" (3" and 3/8"). Great looking valve, great build quality, I hope my review saves some people an unexpected trip to the plumbing store. -
Quality is worth the price By Thomas on 3/13/12
Thomas would recommend this product to a friendMy initial return had a swing check valve. when the pump turned off a huge water hammer developed that would take several minutes to resolve. I replaced the swing check with this valve and no more water hammers. The design and quality is so much better than a swing check. -
love this item! By matthew on 10/2/11
matthew would recommend this product to a friendI had to many problems with my water siphoning back into my sump, so i looked into there check valve and even tho it was pricey well worth every penny! very heavy duty also. -
pricey but very nice By Craig on 8/19/11
Craig would recommend this product to a friendThis is an extremely solidly built part. The walls are strong. The cap is beefy, seals well, and is easy to remove. The weighted stopper is easy to remove with just your fingers. (While clean anyway, haven't had it long enough to say how easy it is to remove when dirty.)
It IS definitely rather expensive, but I was willing to pay it for the extra piece of mind. I've had trouble with siphon break holes stopping up with salt creep to not have one of these. -
Get what you pay for By Robert on 8/3/11
Robert would recommend this product to a friendThe check valve is very well made and has minimal back pressure. I like the fact I can see and hear the weight come down when the water tries to siphon into the sump. Also works great as an opening to prime the pump. -
Cleans easy By Daniel on 6/24/11
Daniel would recommend this product to a friendI love the fact that u can take it apart to clean. it is very well built, very durable. i wanted a product that would last for years and i think it's going to do the job. -
Outstanding performer! By ak_casper_82@hotmail.com on 1/28/11
ak_casper_82@hotmail.com would recommend this product to a friendWas a little worried that it might be overkill but this wye valve is well worth the money. Superb construction coupled with ease of cleaning makes this valve a great investment. I am definitely going to plan to include one on every subsequent build! Once again BRS providing quality equipment at a great price!

bought two of the George Fisher Wye check valves. can I install them horizontal? I know some check valves only work well in a vertical position.
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Trent,
There is a correct orientation when using them horizontally, but they can be used in the horizontal position. -
by Greg on January 21, 2013, @3:48 PM
In your "ADDING A SUMP AND OVERFLOW" video, how did you attach the unions to the check valve that you show on the tank?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Greg,
The George Fisher Wye valves are street fittings, meaning that the ends of the check valve are the same outside diameter as the pipe itself, so it is meant to glue right into fittings (like the unions). You would actually need some sort of fitting (like a union) to connect the check valve to pipe. -
by Joshua on February 6, 2013, @11:05 PM
I read that these check valves can be placed on a horizontal position and does not need to be in a vertical position from up to down. Is this true?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Joshua,
It can be installed either horizontally or vertically. Just make sure that the chamber with the stopper is orientated in the correct dimension.
The golden rule of plumbing is that every job takes three trips to the store. While this can be frustrating locally it can be much worse when shopping online. Being short a fitting or two can delay a plumbing project for days. Here are some quick tips to avoid this.
- Plan your plumbing on paper
- Don't skimp on unions. Unions allow for easy breakdown and maintenance as well as remove the need for precise elbow placement. Use them as often as possible.
- When in doubt order extra. We happily accept returns for a full refund (less shipping) on all unused fittings within one month of purchase. A few extra bucks in return shipping is less frustrating than a project delay.
