Product Questions

Can you add more energy bars to the system or is it only limited to the one?
Question by: Bryton on Jan 13, 2014 5:49:00 AM
Hi Bryton,
You can add as many modules as you like, mixing and matching modules any way you wish (energy bar, PM, VDM modules, etc) until you reach module limit of 240 modules (thats a lot of energy bars!).

I am about as technologically unsavvy as a sloth. How difficult is this device to set up and use if one is not comfortable around computers and programming software?
Question by: Steve Morochnick on Mar 3, 2016 12:09:00 AM
Great question!
That is a tough question and the answer can vary on how much you are willing to learn. If you are looking for an easy system without set up this unit will not be the best. You do need to know your way around Neptune Apex Forums, and other tricks. We recommend watching our entire video series on the apex before purchasing! I have included a link below.

Hi guys,...I have a question for you,...does/will the Apex control all six channels of a Radion light separately?...I heard that the Apex combines channels 1 with 5-6,...2-3-4 are independent. is this true? Also how is the Radion connected/wired to the Apex?...is another module needed?
Thanks in advance.---Rick
Question by: Richard Byersmith on Mar 16, 2016 8:19:00 AM
Great question!
To control the Radion with the Apex you will need the WXM module. The WXM will appear in your Apex Fusion and you can control each of the 6 channels independently for personal color selection or run some of the included programs as well as a slider to adjust intensity and color throughout the day. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

Is there a way to add in a max water level sensor and set it to turn off the return pump when water level gets too high?
Question by: Alex Smith on Apr 4, 2016 3:54:00 PM
Great question!
You can add the Neptune system Break Out box and attach to standard generic float switches to monitor water levels. I have included a link below to the breakout box. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

I wanted to get a ph probe with my apex jr. all i need is a Ph probe or will i need to buy something else to make it work on apex?
Question by: Michael on Mar 27, 2016 9:52:00 PM
Great question!
The Apex Jr will not have a direct connection for the pH probe and the PM1 module will be needed to connect a probe. I have included the link below. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

Is there a wireless connection option or does it have to be hard wired to your network?
Question by: David on May 6, 2015 1:49:00 PM
No answers yet. Be the first to answer the question!
I'm getting ready to order an Apex and wasn't sure which I should go with...Apex or Apex lite. I've got the Kessil A360W-E lights and Vortech MP40W-ES. Will the base unit of either option control the lights or would I need the VCM module? I'm planning on running the lights, powerhead, temp, ph for right now. Not sure if I'd add anything later.
Question by: James on Dec 26, 2013 3:03:00 AM
Hi James,
You would be better off with the Apex here. The Apex lite does not have the VDM outputs to control the Kessil lights. You would have to buy the VDM module, at that point the price just makes sense to get the standard Apex from the GetGo.

  • Awesome Addition By Will on 6/20/2016

Installation is easy, programming is difficult because all instructions are online. Once you figure out how to set it up. It's Gold....
4 stars just because I think they could provide quick setup instructions in paper form instead of telling people their trying to save the world by not using paper when really their trying to increase their profits by not printing instructions!
  • Ok By David on 6/15/2016

Works well but expensive when you add upgrades. Wxm, pm2 ect.
  • The most important addition I've made. By Veal on 3/1/2016

I'm kicking myself because I waited so long. This thing is awesome. I have not fund anything that I have wanted to do that I cannot. It controls every aspect of the tank while giving you a place to store many logs.

Set up is a bit intimidating. After watching some videos and reading the quick start guide, you can easily get started. It can be as simple or as complex as you would like to make it. I now find myself trying to find more complicated code to enter because it's just fun.
Most importantly, it give peace of mind. With alerts leak detectors, the ability to turn off skimmers, control dosing pumps if parameters get out line and many other endless safety features, I can leave home and not worry so much.
If you are considering this product, BUY. It is worth every penny. I wish I would have waited so long.
  • excellent By Capitán Pingaloca on 1/1/2016

This is the best addition to my tank so far, saving me time and having everything to control right from the palm of my hand.
  • Amazing By Zeddyjr on 12/29/2015

This product is such a time saver. Programming takes some getting used to, watch all the videos on brstv and read the comprehensive manual for help. I work 12 hour days so I can't feed my tank, this thing will turn off or turn on anything you want, automatically feed if you buy the AFS system. It sends you emails of something is wrong, keeps track of your chem test results, basically anything you want. I love it.
  • Great product By bl95 on 8/28/2015

This product, while a considerable financial commitment, is tremendous. I've had it for 2 weeks and I don't think I could go without one. I think it is one of those necessary expenses if you are in this for the long term. As advertised, you can monitor and control the tank from anywhere. Provides confidence that everything is operating as it should. When you consider how much you have invested in your tank, if this unit prevents a crash, it will pay for itself over time. One "downside" is that the more you use it, the more you want to use it - to monitor/program VorTech Pumps and auto feed for example. There's a module for that.
  • Yes it is worth the money By Fishpistol on 7/15/2015

I did go back and forth with this for awhile it is expensive. I kept thinking what on earth makes it so great. Well with fusion online from anywhere I have piece of mind. I also have a great way to track all of my reef information and make sure things are going well. I can line up my PH and temp to check and see what that is doing. I can also not rely on my chillers temp gauge and use the more accurate apex to turn it on and off. Lighting is a breeze along with control of all pumps and heaters. It is true automation with a feeder ATO I can live for weeks and not worry at all about the tank. It was a good buy just make sure to hard wire it. The wireless is less then ideal.
  • Good By Rose on 7/6/2015

This an excellent piece of equipment to help keep your tank safe. It does not recover well from power outages and updating the device is an absolute pain, but it is worth it.
  • Never worked. Company unwilling to support By UnhappyCustomer on 4/11/2015

Constantly losing network connectivity. I've sent it back to the company three, going on four times.
  • Best controller on the market By Mike on 3/29/2015

I was hesitant to pick this up just based on price but I haven't regretted it one since. The several different modules you can pick up our amazing from an auto feeder to vertex control as well as leak detection. The basic systems and it comes with pH and temperature checking as well as the eight port power strip make it worth it had mine for about two years now keeps my systems and check
  • do your tank a favor By ryan on 3/25/2015

I would rather have an apex and no fish tank then a fish tank with no apex.
  • awesome By shyerdj on 3/23/2015

a great watchdog on my setup and all that i've invested into it. I like the alerts, logs, graphs, and online interface. I wish the price was lower but it's worth the piece of mind on several possible snafu's.
