Quick Overview

Tonga Shelf Rock with Base has come in many different sizes and shapes with a base or stem.

Sold by the Pound - 15-pound minimum order

Unable to ship to Canada

Tonga Shelf Rock with Base, perfect for overhangs, caves and holding lots of corals in large tanks. Free of nuisance algae and pests. Shelf with base pieces makes great rocks for aquascaping and creating unique designs. The size and shape of the rocks, as well as the base, can vary from piece to piece.

Rock Selection: Due to the wide variety of unique sizes and shape of this rock it is impossible to fulfill orders to exact dimensions, but we are happy to make every attempt to get as close as possible if you leave notes on what you are looking for in the order comments section of the checkout. Shelf with base will normally be a big heavier than traditional shelf rock considering the base or stem that is attached. The minimum order is 15 pounds which are the smallest Shelf with Base rocks that are available.

Shipping Notes: Tonga Shelf can be fragile. BRS makes every effort to securely pack the Tonga Shelf.  However, the UPS automation is not always gentle on heavy products like this, and they do not consider this product insurable. Because of this, there is some inherent risk with shipping rock like this across the country, and it is impossible to replace or refund broken pieces. If this happens most, pieces can be repaired with epoxy.

BRS recommends curing all rock before being used in an established system

Product Questions

what is the average size (across side to 4, 6, 8..inches across the flat) and weight is the flat top of the tonga shelf rock?

Thanks for reaching out to us! Our Tonga Shelf can be ordered to the length that you desire. All you have to do is annotate the length needed in the comments sections of your order, and our team and pick those specifically for you. I do recommend accounting for at least 5lbs for a 4" across piece. :-)

Full Details

Like all of our dry rock Tonga Shelf is free of nuisance algae and pests which can cause complete tank shut downs and is guaranteed to be free of aiptasia, bubble algae, parasitic isopods, mantis shrimp, acro eating flat worms, little red bugs, fire worms, predatory nudibranchs, pyramidellid snails and other common pests.

Using Dry Rock has the following advantages:

  • Low initial cost on premium types of rock.
  • Pound for pound a way better value - no water weight.
  • Can be shipped standard UPS ground which saves a fortune on shipping.
  • Absolutely pest free. This is the most important reason. This allows you to completely avoid all of the most common aquarium pests that plague most aquarists.

How much rock do I need?

Knowing exactly how much Dry Live Rock you will need can be one of the hardest questions to answer since every tank and rock will be slightly different. A general guideline for Tonga Shelf Dry Live Rock, we suggest 1 pound of rock per gallon of display tank volume and may vary depending on your overall goal for the aquascape. We always recommend purchasing a little extra dry rock to ensure that you will have enough to complete the aquascape you are looking for, any extra rock can always be broken up and placed in your refugium, overflows, and sump for added filtration.

Picking: When ordering rock any notes for size, shape, or concerns can be left in the "Order Comments" field during check-out step #3. Our picking department will do the best to follow the notes on the order.

Shipping: Tonga Shelf can be fragile. BRS makes every effort to securely pack the Tonga Shelf. However, we have no control how UPS handles it and it may break during shipping. Unfortunately, this is not covered by insurance so we are unable to replace broken pieces.

Dry live rock is not available for shipment to Canada due to high tariffs. Please consider Reef Saver rock as this is not subject to these fees and our favorite of the dry rocks available.

  • Not as I had hoped By Dennis on 2/22/2017

First the good news.. the packing was spot on and very nicely boxed. I had asked for the longest base possible and I guess one to one and a half inches was long to them and I was disappointed in that regard but overall a 3 out of 5 is about right for the rest of the rock features. I was expecting a much different look after viewing the pictures on this site.
  • Very happy with my purchase By Carlo on 2/6/2017

Huge piece for the money. Very impressive packaging and weighed more than what I paid for. Thanks BRS!

Ordered this item and I expected to get several small pieces and I was ready to just pick out the one I liked the best for my scape. When I opened the box I could tell right away that they cared about their packing. The way it was boxed there was no way anything could break. I also noticed that instead of getting several smaller pieces it came as one AMAZING piece. I will be redoing my scape with this piece as the focus. I know I got exactly what I wanted but if you are wanting smaller rocks I suggest you let them know. The rock was also about 5 more lbs than what I ordered. If I picked out this rock myself I would of been willing to pay more money than what I paid.
