Like all of our dry rock Tonga Shelf is free of nuisance algae and pests which can cause complete tank shut downs and is guaranteed to be free of aiptasia, bubble algae, parasitic isopods, mantis shrimp, acro eating flat worms, little red bugs, fire worms, predatory nudibranchs, pyramidellid snails and other common pests.
Using Dry Rock has the following advantages:
- Low initial cost on premium types of rock.
- Pound for pound a way better value - no water weight.
- Can be shipped standard UPS ground which saves a fortune on shipping.
- Absolutely pest free. This is the most important reason. This allows you to completely avoid all of the most common aquarium pests that plague most aquarists.
How much rock do I need?
Knowing exactly how much Dry Live Rock you will need can be one of the hardest questions to answer since every tank and rock will be slightly different. A general guideline for Tonga Shelf Dry Live Rock, we suggest 1 pound of rock per gallon of display tank volume and may vary depending on your overall goal for the aquascape. We always recommend purchasing a little extra dry rock to ensure that you will have enough to complete the aquascape you are looking for, any extra rock can always be broken up and placed in your refugium, overflows, and sump for added filtration.
Picking: When ordering rock any notes for size, shape, or concerns can be left in the "Order Comments" field during check-out step #3. Our picking department will do the best to follow the notes on the order.
Shipping: Tonga Shelf can be fragile. BRS makes every effort to securely pack the Tonga Shelf. However, we have no control how UPS handles it and it may break during shipping. Unfortunately, this is not covered by insurance so we are unable to replace broken pieces.
Dry live rock is not available for shipment to Canada due to high tariffs. Please consider Reef Saver rock as this is not subject to these fees and our favorite of the dry rocks available.
Amazing rocks! By JEFF on 6/8/2017JEFF would recommend this product to a friendAs soon as I got my package I knew I've gotten more than I paid for. I only ordered the minimum 15 lbs but the box felt like it weighed twice that! Box was filled with packaging styro but when reached in for the rocks, I felt a couple of pieces of rocks Inside the bag, my heart sunk thinking my rock had broken into pieces. To my surprise my shelf rock was not only intact but it's absolutely beautiful! Not only that, they also included another tiny shelf rock! I'm very happy and will order fromBRS again!
Not anything like I expected By michaelryer on 5/17/2017michaelryer wouldn't recommend this product to a friendWanted a centerpiece for my 55 gallon reef tank...first off, they looked basically like slabs of concrete...way too bulky or heavy to be of much use as a tonja shelf...secondly, there was absolutely NO STEM....waste of money....sorry...want to be honest...one "shelf" piece actually was so thick I ended up using it as part of an upright wall....won't be buying from here again.
Great piece By Kenneth D on 5/4/2017Kenneth D would recommend this product to a friendOrdered a piece 14-16" across to accommodate a large ritteri anemone. They sent exactly that !! Nothing broken and a nice little "neck" under the shelf to cement some pieces of dry rock so as to raise the overall height. Very impressed with the rock !! A+++
Very Generous By Joseph on 4/1/2017Joseph would recommend this product to a friendFirst of all, like everything else BRS sells, It was VERY well packaged. (now what to do with all these packaging peanuts....)
Second, it was 7 lbs heavier than i ordered. SEVEN! VERY generous!
I had told them it was to be the centerpiece in my tank, they obviously took this to heart.
Unfortunately, it had no attached base, there was a second piece which i assume they included AS the base, unless it broke off in transit, which it doesnt look like this was attached to it.
Thats the only reason im giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Nothing superglue cant do lol
Overall, AWESOME piece, it really IS the centerpiece to my tank. Thanks to all of BRS!
Big beautiful pest free workable rock By Old Hippie on 3/21/2017Old Hippie would recommend this product to a friendLarge, I damaged pieces. Very generous with weight and packaged well. Drill it, carve it, and get creative as the dry rock is workable and can be glued together very strongly with gorilla glue for great creativity or if you break it. Also aptasia free!
Where's the base?! By Doug on 3/12/2017Doug wouldn't recommend this product to a friendLooks nothing like thi pic. With that said, this is the only thing I've ever ordered from BRS that I haven't been satisfied with.
My shelf looks awesome By Keith on 3/4/2017Keith would recommend this product to a friendIt came in complete.....they even put in 3 or 4 extra pieces to add a couple smaller shelves throughout the tank...i am happy and satisfied with this product
It looked like a piece of flat slab with a base at the end of it By Ben on 2/27/2017Ben wouldn't recommend this product to a friendNot really close enough to be like a mushroom. There was no design that looks like a dead acropora like the ones on the photos. In short, it was like a slab - not even showing a sign as if it was taken from nature. I will not use the one I received because it is not presentable - looks man-made and not coral-like.
Not as I had hoped By Dennis on 2/22/2017Dennis would recommend this product to a friendFirst the good news.. the packing was spot on and very nicely boxed. I had asked for the longest base possible and I guess one to one and a half inches was long to them and I was disappointed in that regard but overall a 3 out of 5 is about right for the rest of the rock features. I was expecting a much different look after viewing the pictures on this site.
Very happy with my purchase By Carlo on 2/6/2017Carlo would recommend this product to a friendHuge piece for the money. Very impressive packaging and weighed more than what I paid for. Thanks BRS!
Thanks BRS By ZN on 12/26/2016ZN would recommend this product to a friendOrdered this item and I expected to get several small pieces and I was ready to just pick out the one I liked the best for my scape. When I opened the box I could tell right away that they cared about their packing. The way it was boxed there was no way anything could break. I also noticed that instead of getting several smaller pieces it came as one AMAZING piece. I will be redoing my scape with this piece as the focus. I know I got exactly what I wanted but if you are wanting smaller rocks I suggest you let them know. The rock was also about 5 more lbs than what I ordered. If I picked out this rock myself I would of been willing to pay more money than what I paid.
