Product Questions

Hi, just purchased my first reef tank and am still putting together all the items I need, next being a way to make RO/DI water. I'm convinced you guys make the best units available but am wondering how much water pressure is needed to pass through the filters. My home has well water and my pressure gauge on my well pump is at 50 and I've heard people having problems with this in pressures under 50
Question by: Mike on Apr 23, 2016 5:55:00 PM
Great question!
Under 40 PSI and the membrane will not perform to efficiency, 50 PSI is the recommended minimum operating pressure. Some things you can consider after setting up the unit will be to check the pressure, if it is too low you can add a booster pump or even permeate pump to increase the pressure slightly.

Hi, I Recently purchased this 75 gallon a day RO/DI value System.
In the features it notes an automatic shut off valve, How does that work? I tested it in a trash bin, and it overflowed.

Hi, I Recently purchased this 75 gallon a day RO/DI value System.
In the features it notes an automatic shut off valve, How does that work? I tested it in a trash bin, and it overflowed.
Great question, all of our units come with the auto shut off valve, which it the square on the top of the unit with the blue and red line going in and out of it. in order for this to work there needs to be pressure in the DI (Blue) line. The pressure can be created by adding a manual shut off valve or a float valve. If you want it to be automatic, you will need to install a float valve in your DI water tank. We sell the float valve separate and all that needs to be done is install the valve and plug it into the DI line. I have attached a link below

Hi Guys,
I'm looking to get one of your Ro/Di systems as they seem to be hard to come across here in Australia. Do you ship internationally?
Question by: Lachlan McPhee on Jan 5, 2017 8:58:00 PM
Hi there!

Thank you for your interest in Bulk Reef Supply! At the moment we are currently only able to ship to the US and Canada. Hopefully one day we can expand that to our more international market. :-)

can this be used for drinking water by placing a bypass before the DI chamber?
Question by: BRADY on Dec 28, 2016 5:41:00 PM
Great question! You absolutely can bypass the DI resin and use it for drinking water. Our favorite fitting to do just that is the three way ball valve listed in the link below. :-)

I purchased your 4-stage ro/di unit several months ago and coulndt be good. I recently decided to connect it to an out shut off float. The question i had is that the black line (Waste line) doesnt stop flowing after the float is made. I am worried about blowing up the unit. There seems to be a lot of pressure behind it when i open the float, Am i just not leaving it off long enough? Or is something malfunctioning? thanks,
Question by: Karl Huber on Dec 17, 2016 11:43:00 AM
Great question! It does take up to 15-20 minutes before the pressure builds up enough to engage the auto shut off valve. No need to worry about the pressure building in the system. Our units are designed to operate under these conditions. :-)

At what level of chloramine would this filter no longer be appropriate? My city water is measuring between 1.3 and 1.8 ppm. Thank you!
Question by: Chris B on Apr 14, 2016 9:11:00 PM
Great question!
There is not an exact answer however if your city is using chloramines we recommend the dual carbon blocks on the 6 stage system to protect the life of your RO membrane.
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Apr 19, 2016 3:46:00 PM
Hello. I recently bought the 4 stage to system to upgrade from my currant to system. I have also bought the dual di unit from you. With my old system I have a 3G pressure tank, can I hook that up to this new system? Thank you
Question by: Nathan on Jan 7, 2017 11:13:00 AM
Great question! As long as your 3gal tank has 1/4" push connect fittings, you should easily be able to hook your new 4 Stage unit to it! :-)
Answer by: Randy (Admin) on Jan 10, 2017 1:11:00 PM
is it possible to upgrade the 4 stage basic system to a 5 or 6 stage by adding other additional canisters and filters inline to get more filtratation.
Question by: Scott on Jan 31, 2016 5:53:00 AM
Great question!
The systems are certainly able to be upgraded and we do have full upgrade kits available. I have included a link below.

Hi, is it possible to install this reverse osmosis system into a kitchen sink? Thanks.
Question by: Jon Frerichs on May 2, 2016 8:08:00 PM
Great question!
This is unable to be installed as a feed line for a regular faucet. Instead can work as a secondary drinking water faucet with the purchase of the Add on Faucet kit.
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on May 3, 2016 5:38:00 PM
How long is the blue (output) line that comes with the unit? What is recommended (connectors/tubing) to extend this length?
Question by: Evan on Jan 21, 2016 3:35:00 PM
Great question!
There is 10' of tubing for each color included with the kit. For attaching additional tubing you can use the 1/4" union in the link below. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions.
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Jan 27, 2016 7:38:00 PM
if im filling 55 gallon drum with the rodi unit will it shut off when drum is full? if not can i link it to another device to do this?
Question by: Brad DuBois on May 17, 2016 10:33:00 AM
Great question!
The unit will shut off as long as you have the float valve installed on the ro container. The auto shut off valve included in the unit will cause this to shut off the waste and product water.
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on May 18, 2016 6:38:00 PM
Just wanted to know how do i know how many psi my sink is?
Question by: Kareem on Apr 13, 2017 12:02:00 PM
Hey there,
If you wish to know the pressure in your lines, you can install a pressure gauge at the point you wish to take a reading. We do also sell an upgraded version of this RODI unit which includes a built-in pressure gauge which will take a reading of the pressure at the membrane. I've provided links below to both of these products.

Have a great day!

BRS 4 Stage Value RO/DI System Instructions

 Dow Filmtec Membrane BW60-1812-75

New: All BRS RO/DI systems have been recently been updated to reflect the latest in reverse osmosis technology with updated filters, components and design updates. The redesign also makes system selection much easier. The new Value and new Universal systems are now both capable of treating for chloramines and chlorine.

Value systems: Designed to be compact, portable, upgradeable and most importantly affordable.

Universal systems: Designed to be best in industry filtration for chloramines, chlorine and well water as well as covers the widest array of contaminates. The ideal solution if you simply want to know you have the best filtration available.

The standard value model is the most affordable, produces pristine zero TDS water perfect for the reef aquarium and is completely upgradeable for the future.

4 Stages of Filtration:

  • Purtrex 1 Micron Depth Sediment Filter NSF Certified
  • BRS 1 Micron Universal Carbon Block NSF Certified (35,000 Gallons Chlorine / 3,500 Gallons Chloramines)
  • 75 GPD Dow Filmtec Membrane NSF Certified
  • Pre-filled Single Deionization (DI) stage with refillable cartridge

Parts Bag Includes:

  • Filter wrench to tighten and loosen canisters
  • Chrome faucet connector with adapter rings to make a non-permanent connection to kitchen sink
  • Utility sink/garden hose adapter to make a non-permanent connection to garden hose or laundry tub
  • Insta-Test Free & Total Chlorine Strips to test water for proper filter replacement

Standard Features:

  • Automatic shut-off valve
  • Mur-lok Push Connect dual EPDM O-Ring fittings
  • 10 Ft Each of 1/4" Blue, Red and Black Tubing
  • All BRS Value Reverse Osmosis units exclusively feature NSF-certified BRS Universal Carbon Block Filters with 30% more carbon than standard blocks, NSF-certified Purtrex depth sediment filters and American made NSF-certified DOW reverse osmosis membranes
  • Includes Total and Free Chlorine test strips to help identify if your city is using chlorine or chloramines
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty which includes unlimited support via chat, phone or email with our WQA certified customer service staff.
  • Dimensions: 16" x 6.25" x 15.5"

Recommended Conditions:

  • Minimum Water Pressure - 50 PSI
  • Max Water Pressure - 90 PSI
  • Recommended Water Temperature - 77°F
  • Recommended Max TDS - <300ppm

Water pressure can be increased by adding a booster pump before your RO/DI system if a pressure increase is required. Low pressure will cause slow production of product water, with excess production of waste water. Pressure over 90 PSI may cause damage to the RO/DI units filters and components.

Saved me money from buying water from local pet store and so easy to replace filters when needed.
  • Great Value By Zach on 4/7/2017

Received the product promptly after purchase, a plastic connector valve broke in the 2 hours of use prompting the 4/5 but customer service sent out a replacement with spare and have use it often since with no further issues, still holding onto the spare piece.
  • Best bang for your buck By brad on 3/3/2017

This RODI unit does exactly as I need it to! I make about 90 gallons of RODI water monthly for my tank. This product does a great job making sure my water is pristine! An added bonus of pressure gauge and tds meter. Not standard features on competitor products! Can't go wrong with this
  • Best way to keep a healthy and algae free tank, hands down. By Edward on 1/15/2017

Keeping a healthy saltwater tank means keeping clean water. Starting with the best possible source water is step one. This is where BRS shines. This RO/DI unit is not particularly high tech like most of the gear for a reef tank but it absolutely does the job. The Murlok fittings are easy enough to use and the things included with the unit are amazing. This RO/DI system works well even if you have Chloramine. Not sure if you have Chlroamine or Chlorine? NO problem! This RO unit comes with a Chlorine test kit! Many other companies offer similar units and at times maybe even slightly cheaper. The amazing customer service of BRS sets this unit apart from the rest. Do your creatures and yourself a favor and get this already.
  • Excellent Results By KW on 9/26/2016

Hooks up in about 5 minutes...I get at least 75 gal. per day of perfect water! Why spend more?
This is the second one I've purchased.
  • Could be better By Aris on 9/15/2016

All in all this product is great, but mine drips and is leaking and not sure if that's normal?
  • No leak! By Wes on 9/8/2016

I've purchased quite a few similar filters from other places and they all leak. I intentionally did not do anything to this one and just hook it up, and it did not leak at all! Much better quality already. Let's hope it holds up well. Will report back if the status changes.
  • Good basic Filter By Eddie on 8/23/2016

Very good basic filter. No leaks and everything is assembled. I'm not getting 0 tds but I think my meter needs to be calibrated and there is nothing wrong with the filter.
  • Finest Customer Service By Michael on 4/29/2016

I purchased this unit as a new reefer starting my first tank. I was discouraged when my unit arrived with two broken connections but the BRS team overnighted me two new connections and they were simply awesome to fix this problem. Their customer service is the best I've ever encountered and has sold me as a lifetime customer! The system is simple to set up and of course of the highest quality producing nothing but 0ppm TDS
  • Up and running in no time thanks to all the fittings By 1611mac on 4/15/2016

I am highly satisfied with this unit. When I opened the box and saw the method of packing I new the unit was going to be good. (If you care about your product you are going to pack it nicely.) I initially hooked this up to a spare bathroom sink to to grab some RODI to calibrate a ph meter. Hookup was a breeze due to the "sink" fittings. Two days later I mounted on the wall of my garage for a "temporary" permanent setup and it too when great due to the inclusion of an outdoor hose fitting. These may be "little" things but they indicate that BRS really does care about providing a good product. I had a small drip on the inlet fitting and I had a replacement in a few days. Thanks BRS! One highly satisfied customer!
  • best RO/DI system out there By mark skjerven on 3/23/2016
