  • Great pump! By John on 8/8/2016

I have two in my nano and I really like them a lot. I use my apex to control them, so you have even more control. The nice thing about these pumps when controlling via the apex, you can control the overall output with the main power knob. Think of it as a output/voltage trim. Turned all the way up, the pump operates at 100% power, if it's too much, turn it down for even less power. I can't wait until I upgrade to a larger tank, these pumps will be making the trip. You can hear them kick on, but it's not loud, at least not to me.
  • A so-so pump with a big price tag By Mike on 5/4/2016

I bought two for my reef tank a little less than a year ago, and one is down for the count. They say in the owner's manual these pumps are "self-cleaning" and only need to be cleaned every two years or so. That is just completely untrue. You need to maintain these just as you would any other pump...it's marketing hype. The main problem I've experienced is the shaft coming loose and the impeller assembly being unstable slightly out of place as a result....which makes for a lot of friction noise and renders the pump nearly useless. Oh, and Tunze won't honor their warranty unless you have all the original packaging...so, yeah. Aside from that these pumps are rather noisy and the flow adjustment is very stiff, as others have stated. Overall it's a decent controllable DC pump, but I don't consider it a good value for the money.
  • Great product!!! By Chris on 12/20/2015

So glade I made this purchase. More then enough power for my 20 gallon long tank
  • Works as advertised. By SMB on 12/16/2015

Typical Tunze engineering. Compact and well made, but a bit noisy.
The rotating deflector on my pump is quite stiff and difficult to adjust. One actually has to remove the ring to reposition the deflector and that requires taking the pump out of the water. A little easier adjustment of flow direction would be nice.
  • Power, compact but loud By Jason on 12/15/2015

I really like the features that this little pump has. Programming it is fairly straight-forward and it does move a lot of water especially for its size. My biggest complaint is that it quite loud..I'm tempted to return it but I might play around with it a little more to see if I can somehow get the humming down to a manageable level.
  • GREAT By Alton on 12/15/2015

This thing moves a lot of water and the controllability is awesome
  • Good adjustable flow powerhead By Joe on 12/12/2015

This is a good adjustable flow powerhead. The automatic wave feature does not produce the standing wave I would like. Also the lack of availability of the photo cell means adjusting it manually day/night. With photo cell this pump would be 5 stars.
  • Nice Wavemaker By TundraGoby on 7/6/2015

This is a very nice compact package, easy to set up, and makes the water movement in my 120 tank much better than before. I like the feed function also. As time goes on I may try the 2 pump setup for additional control.
  • Excellent Wave Making Pump By Matt on 4/7/2015

The Tunze 6040 is a powerful pump in a compact package. The included controller allows for a myriad of flow options with ease of operation. Being able to connect two via a pump cable is a great feature that allows for excellent water movement. Highly recommend this pump.
  • Making a wave By bobby on 3/20/2015

makes a great wave in a 45g frag tank. you could compare this to a mp10 if your looking for a wave
