Good natural shelf rock. By Rock Tycoon on 11/7/2014Rock Tycoon would recommend this product to a friendThis is pretty good rock. It is a coral skeleton that varies in porosity. They sent me some pretty interesting pieces of varying shapes and sizes. Some were nicer than others but that is how nature is. I was surprised at how large one piece was. Highly recommended.
Awesome nice sized pieces By adam on 11/6/2014adam would recommend this product to a friendI was please with the size pieces i received well worth the cost.

Tonga Shelf Dry Rock is Fantastic! By Brad on 9/12/2014Brad would recommend this product to a friendI ordered 15 lbs and asked 2 of the pieces be within certain dimensions. I received 17 lbs of rock, got the 2 pieces I needed, and then some! Its really attractive in the aquarium.
Unique looking product By Keith on 9/4/2014Keith would recommend this product to a friendI added a piece of Tonga shelf rock with base to my recent tank build. I wouldn't go crazy with too many pieces, but they make great accents. Also, keep in mind that they do block light under them so try and keep them lower in the tank if you are building a reef tank. I would also suggest having a rod handy to support them as it is difficult to stand them on their own. I drilled mine into a heavier base rock using an acrylic rod.
horrible packing By tb5663 on 8/29/2014tb5663 would recommend this product to a friendWith shipping this cost me about 4.00 per lbs so it's not too terrible price for dry rock? I ordered two shelfs preferable oblong. I got 6 pcs. All rock was put in one bag, placed at bottom of cardboard box and then peanuts were filled in on top. There was nothing between each rock and nothing between bottom of box and rocks. No writing on box like 'breakable or fragile or handle with care'. So don't complain if you got one solid large pc. that don't sit up like you want it. I may use two out of the 6 I got and toss the rest in the yard. So actually for what I would use this really costs more than 4.00 per lb. Never again.
Great By Nikhil on 7/3/2014Nikhil would recommend this product to a friendPerfect for aquascsping

Some great, some not By Denise on 5/12/2014Denise would recommend this product to a friendI ordered a few small pieces to see what they're like since i'm planning to upgrade my tanks soon. One of the pieces of shelf rock was a really nice piece. Others were just blah and will have to be used in the sump. Still, the price is right for what I got. I just prefer to pick out rock myself.

Is there a possibility to get a smaller (under 10lb) shelf piece with the base still attached?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Dillon,
There really isn't. In order to grow a base these ancient corals grew very large (most of them are 20+ in diameter) and as a result weigh substantially more.

I have a 16 gallon tall nano tank with dimensions 20x10x18. I am looking for a shelf rock with base to use in this tank. I know it's impossible to make things perfect but did you have one roughly 8" or so in diameter with the base making the entire rock structure anywhere from 13-15" tall? I was looking to go with one rock structure in this tank. Thanks-
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Pete,
The shelf pieces with bases are very very large, in almost all cases there larger then it appears the dimensions of your tank are (they had to grow big to develop a base to begin with). In your case the only shelf rocks that are going to fit in your tank with be the without base pieces (which are usually pieces fragmented off of larger ones).

Approximately how heavy is a 30" piece of shelf rock (no base)?
Bulk Reef Supply HI Patrick,
A 30" piece will almost always have a base and I would expect it to weigh in the ballpark of atleast 30lbs, usually closer to 40-50 depending on the shape and total size.
Picking: If you are interested in the jumbo pieces, please specify your request in the comments area during checkout. Customer service will contact you for more details if required.
Shipping: Tonga Shelf can be fragile. BRS makes every effort to securely pack the Tonga Shelf. However, we have no control how UPS handles it and it may break during shipping. Unfortunately this is not covered by insurance so we are unable to replace broken pieces.
Dry live rock is not available for shipment to Canada due to high tariffs. Please consider Reef Saver rock as it is not subject to these fees and is our favorite of the dry rocks available.
Like all of our dry rock Tonga Shelf is free of nuisance algae and pests which can cause complete tank shut downs and is guaranteed to be free of apitasia, bubble algae, parasitic isopods, mantis shrimp, acro eating flat worms, little red bugs, fire worms, predatory nudibranchs, pyramidellid snails and other common pests.
Using Dry Rock has the following advantages:
- Low initial cost on premium types of rock.
- Pound for pound a way better value - no water weight.
- Can be shipped standard UPS ground which saves a fortune on shipping.
- Absolutely pest free. This is the most important reason. This allows you to completely avoid all of the most common aquarium pests that plague most aquarists.
