Water first enters in the filter sock compartment that also has brackets that will hold a 8" x 1" MarinePure Ceramic Media Block (not included) on the bottom of the sump box increasing the biological filtration capability. Water will then overflow into the main compartment of the sump where the skimmer can be placed with the return pump and any other pumps or filters that you desire.
One of the hardest things when choosing a sump is selecting the right skimmer that fits with the sump. The included 60S Space Saving Skimmer fits perfectly in the Somatic 60 Sump and is powered by a reliable and quiet Sicce pump that perfectly mixes the air and water together to help fractionate any organics or proteins out of your tanks water.

Junk By billandwende on 5/4/2017billandwende wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI had the misfortune of being suckered into buying this overpriced POS. Save your money and build your own sump. This thing has no instructions. All the Web addresses PRINTED on the box go to GO DADDY .com This is a total joke. Here's what you get. A PLASTIC BOX. I fell for it don't you do the same. BRS should be ashamed to offer this.
Excellent By George W. on 3/20/2017George W. would recommend this product to a friendI was amazed by the workmanship for the price.
Arrived in Great shape, packaging is insane nice.
Skimmer is silent and took about 2 hours to break in
Incredibly robust sump and skimmer combo! By StatelineReefer on 12/7/2016StatelineReefer would recommend this product to a friendSo having a few bucks to spend on myself the 2016 holiday season, I decided it was time to upgrade the sump on my 75 gallon reef tank. I'd been using an old wet/dry 'repurposed' as a sump, and the room just wasn't there for everything I wanted to run. I saw the price on the Somatic 60 kit, I saw what the package offered and I figured 'what the heck'...
What the heck indeed!!!! I expected some flimsy, floppy poorly glued acrylic mess, instead I got a sump that I want to show off as much as my display tank. Thick acrylic, smoothly rounded edges, and the skimmer, while only rated for 80g max, is an absolute DREAM to tune. The sump itself has a single baffle to decrease bubbles getting to the main display tank, I ran a PVC pipe down to the very bottom of the drain area, inside a filter sock, and drilled a spiral of holes to compensate for the lack of multiple baffles.
The only reason this gets a 4 instead of a 5 is where the skimmer's internal pump connects to the bubble plate, the connector arrived split at the threads. Whether it had been overtightened or whether United Package Smashers had their way with it, I could not tell. A little PVC glue and a few minutes of impatience holding the piece while it set and it was good as new, and is still holding perfect.
To sum it up. This is an excellent sump, and a SUPER addition to any build 75g and under. I won't lie, the modular design is both a blessing and a curse. I think the filter sock holder should be an automatic addition, As should the drain cover (Which I purchased later, Again, VERY high quality on the manufacture of this stuff.).
