Different than Red Sea Foundations B liquid product By Tom on 3/3/2015Tom wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThis product, when mixed according to the directions, has only about one-third the strength of the liquid version of Red Sea Foundations B. Red Sea has clarified this in a few forums. Further, a stock solution mixed from the powder has a much lower pH than the liquid version. So, while the product does add alkalinity you will add 3x the dose of their liquid product and you won't get the usual pH bump either. After I've used it up I will go back to the liquid version or try a different product. I like their powdered version of Foundation A but not the powdered B product. Apparently, they can't ship the powdered ingredients of the "true" RS-B in the US so the powdered product actually is different than the liquid.
Love Red Sea? Hate The Cost? Try This By Lindsey on 1/27/2014Lindsey would recommend this product to a friendPersonally I love the red sea line for a number of reasons I won't get into. The liquids are convenient, but I also like to save my reefing budget for more coral, so the powdered versions are a win for me. They mix to the same concentration as the liquid bottles, but you can make multiple bottles from each jar of powder. For this alkalinity, 1 powder jar will make 10 of the 500 mL bottles. That makes it about 1/10 the price.
Couple tips: do invest in a decent scale that will weigh in grams if you do not have one, easier and more accurate that way. Also, I don't know what happened with Jose's solution, but I have not had the same issue. When I mix any kind of stock solutions I use RO/DI or distilled and heat the water up to about 80 or 90 F by standing it in a sink full of hot water for a bit. Then I add the powder to the water slowly while stirring constantly. Never had an issue.
Not impressed By Jose on 1/29/2013Jose wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI recently purchased the powder supplement to create a stock solution. After much research on the internet, I learned that the instructions that came with the product had the incorrect amount of water to use to dissolve the product. The instructions on the Red Sea website calls for triple the amount of water to create a stock solution. I did get the powder to fully dissolve.
