Margaret Miller is the Research Director for SECORE International, a conservation nonprofit dedicated to coral reef conservation through research, restoration, outreach, and education, and particularly focusing on larval propagation of corals. She received an undergraduate degree from Indiana University and a doctorate in marine ecology from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill). Her dissertation involved ecological studies of non-reef building coral, Oculina spp, off North Carolina. She then moved south to examine some “real” corals, in a post-doctoral position with the University of Miami. She then spent 19 years as a Research Ecologist with NOAA Fisheries’ Southeast Science Center leading an active field research program in the Florida Keys focused on coral early life history, coral restoration, population studies of threatened elkhorn and stagorn corals and their threats.
