Weakness is a weakness By Despoofed on 12/18/2018
Despoofed wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI tried two of the down low behind my rock work to get some flow there. It seemed like one or the other had stopped working almost every time I checked on them. They were more than a month old and were not dirty. I would fish them out of the tank, fiddle with them a little and they would run for a few days and stop again. I started looking around the forums and this is not uncommon evidently. The inherent flaw in them is that the motor is so small and week that they can't overcome even the least amount of detritus or a grain of sand. I don't take the time to do a lot of reviews but wanted to step up and help someone else from throwing away their money on these pumps. -
Nice compact pump By Curt on 11/23/2017
Curt would recommend this product to a friendThis is my first Tunze pump to own. I installed this one vertically in my 26g bow front tank and it does a great job at moving the water around. I've had it for a couple months now without any problems. I like it so much that I have ordered a second one and will be installing it on the same tank. I now have to decide how I want to run them both. :) -
Good flow, but loud pump By Damian on 1/7/2017
Damian wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThe pump is well constructed, the magnet is solid, and the flow is very adequate for this size pump. However, I found the pump to be somewhat louder than I expected. It gives off a noticeable deep/low humming noise when running. I'm not sure if this is how loud it's supposed to be as I have no way to compare it to another pump, but Tunze has been contacted to see if there is anything I can try to quiet the pump. I will update this review when the issue is resolved. -
OK Pump By James_H on 3/19/2016
James_H would recommend this product to a friendRecently purchasing 2 small pumps for a nano, the tunze 6020 was one of my choices. Having 3 pumps in a 10 gallon tank required careful consideration of the power consumption (I don't have a chiller). Using only 4 watts is this pumps primary selling point. The flow pattern is dispersed and as others have stated is not deflected quite enough. The pump does put out more noise than I expected as well (even with the rubber isolation feet supplied it is louder than my skimmer).
One thing to note is that upon startup, the impeller may begin turning the wrong direction (yup its AC with a true impeller... not a like a centrifugal pump), and the pump was designed to correct the rotation with small bumpers that stop the impeller and bounce it back in the counter direction. This process creates a noticeable chattering sound when it occurs at startup.... would definitely not recommend this pump to be used with any sort of wave maker. -
Great little pump !!! By jhmeresqu on 2/7/2016
jhmeresqu would recommend this product to a friendNice, compact, low power consumption.....used in sump for circulation of detritus......great little mag-mount. -
Fair quality so/so performance By Bruce on 1/23/2016
Bruce would recommend this product to a friendRuns reliable, replaced a Hydor Koralia Evolution 600GPH and doesn't seem to have as good of performance so will only be effective in a very small tank or for a small spot flow. Have it in a 20 and it is only good for a corner area of the tank. Little rotating deflector only about half deflects flow so a flow perpendicular to the mounting surface is not possible, will only divert flow by about 45 degrees. Mounting system works good and pump is quiet, I hear this pump make no noise as others have stated. Have not had this pump fail to run either. It does pull so little power I had to run it on Apex EB8 outlets that are relay controlled, the solid state outlets 1-3 & 5-7 will not turn off with only this on an outlet. Price is good for the quality. -
Flow is neet By Andre on 10/10/2015
Andre would recommend this product to a friendcreates a very unique gyre type flow pattern in the tank, very similar to the one i saw on you tube today. -
Disappointed By NavyCove on 4/12/2015
NavyCove wouldn't recommend this product to a friend1. Bright blue colored ring makes this hard to camouflage. It stands out in the tank.
2. Nice flow. Corals liked it immediately in my 30 gallon.
3. Way too loud!. I'm moving it to quarantine tank which is in a room whereI don't have to listen to it. -
Small and powerful By aaron on 2/17/2015
aaron would recommend this product to a friendThis pump works great. I have had for 4 months now in a 4gal. Sps tank. It has powerful Broad flow. I have it aimed down towards the bottom of the aquarium. It Keeps all the detrius off the bare bottom. The Only thing is the pump is louder than I thought it would be but not a big deal -
Decent Pump By Matt on 12/21/2014
Matt would recommend this product to a friendThis pump isn't designed to be used like a regular powerless and if you use it correctly it's great. I find the flow deflector to be very useful to spread the pattern out wide. I have mine pointed straight down on the back wall, with the deflector aimed between two large rock formations. It really keeps detritus up off the rocks and sand. Buzzes a little on startup and I find the cord to be a little short. -
Not up to usual high standards By reefergl on 11/14/2014
reefergl wouldn't recommend this product to a friendIn the short time I have had this, not even two months, it has stopped working twice. I then take it apart and put in back together and it works again.
For me this is not up to the usual high standards of the Tunze name brand.
