Lighting for reef tanks can be one of the hardest choices when it comes to fixtures to buy. There are so many options these days it is hard to know which is going to be best for your tank. Over the years T5 fixtures have been a staple in the hobby and a great recipe for success. T5 lighting will give the evenest spread of any lights due to the length of the fluorescent tube and reflectors. The Sunlight Supply Sun Blaze fixtures are a great value for the price and can be daisy-chained for multiple fixtures to be connected together through the power cords.

I ended up with this fixture after another episode of the indestructible RBTA. After some time happy in one spot of my DT it decided to take a flight to greener pastures and found my MP10. Two days later with my main flow pump shut down it still wouldn't let go and had to be forcibly removed. The foot was damaged and I felt certain it was done. Not having the heart to freeze and flush I unceremoniously plopped into my 20 long observation tank which was still set up from a fish purchase. To my elation and shock not only did it not die but it split. I needed to keep it in quarantine to heal. This left me in need of a new, cheap light system in a big hurry. This fixture fit the bill perfectly. It's no ATI but a four bulb fixture with replacement ATI bulbs I still came in around $200.00 and it's getting the job done. Definitely recommend for long term quarantine/observation for corals and nems.

Product Questions

What bulbs would go in this fixture for over a refugium
Question by: Philip Hartin on Oct 24, 2017 12:38:00 PM
Hi Phillip, thanks for reaching out!
The Sun Blaze actually includes daylight bulbs which should be great for use with macro algae. Another option would be the Planted Super Flora from Giesemann.

This does not have a glass cover and will need to be taken with care to avoid any salt spray. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions.
