Beautiful tank, breeze to setup
I have this system since July 2019, and it's beautiful. After cleaning out the glass, you can barely tell that there's anything between you and your corals, they just seem to float. It's also extremely silent, I'm a very light sleeper and this sits in my room, dead silent – the only thing I can hear is my skimmer (not from Red Sea).
My only complaint is that the front glass scratches VERY easily, I own a flipper but the front glass still got 3 deep scratches (on the inside), despite me being very, very careful about it. The side panels (not extra-clear) are completely intact, and I'm not nearly as careful while cleaning those. If Red Sea offered this tank without the extra-clear glass, I would definitely go for it.
The tank and associated equipment arrived on a pallet. I brought them in the house in pieces and then asked my wife to help with the actual tank. Note: inside the box with the tank is a bunch of other things so you can lighten the load if you like by bringing them in first. I set up the tank with no trouble except when it came to attaching the metric green return hose to the Syncra 3.5 pump. That was extremely difficult but after heating the tube, perseverance and some great encouragement from Nick online at BRS, I was able to get it. Nick was (and is) on support at BRS and has been amazing at answering questions and offering advice. The Red Sea lights are beautiful but the app is not great. Took me hours to get them set up. Works well once set up.
Tank is set up with Apex, Tunze, Octopus etc. it’s the most beautiful tank I’ve ever owned. I feel great with BRS support in my corner (& by support I mean I just email & they answer.) Thanks BRS
Beautiful system that is easy to setup
I'm very pleased with my system I received in February 2020. My previous tank had a seam suddenly fail and I wanted to get a new tank fairly quickly. I didn't have the time to plan a whole new build in such a short amount of time nor did I want to. I ended up going with the Reefer 250 because it had everything out of the box and it looked great.
Shipping was extremely fast. Ignore the reviews that give the Reefer or BRS a bad review over something they have no control over. Red Sea drops ship these directly every Friday for those who ordered by a certain time on Wednesday. My carrier called me on the following Monday to schedule delivery. Red Sea packs these very well and I had no issues with my carrier and damage, but your mileage may vary.
The stand is assembled like Ikea furniture, but constructed with higher quality materials. Putting in plumbing was pretty straight forward, but there are some times where the instructions are a little confusing. There are two sets of instructions, the assembly instructions and the product manual. Make sure to jump back and forth between the two.
The rimless aquarium looks great and the seams were very clean. All of the plumbing and the sump fit like a glove and had zero leaks or issues. The newer v3 sump design looks like an improvement over the old design. With the sump in, there is not much room for equipment, but not much that can be done here. I'm not a fan of the stock ATO. It is gravity fed with a float valve, but I could not get them to work properly together. It only holds 2.1 gallons and it also very obtrusive when trying to work in the sump. I ended up replacing it with a separate ATO reservoir which is working great. The filter socks are also not standard size, you'll have to buy the Red Sea ones for a perfect fit without any modification, .
The Reef LEDs are sleek as well and they do a pretty good job of hiding the cords. The ReefBeat app is nice and syncing the lights is quick and easy. The only downside is that to truly use the lights to their full potential, you need a smart device with internet connectivity. The offline mode is a bit limiting.
Overall, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I've had no real issues or major complaints and everything is working great. The aquarium and stand simply look amazing together.
