I had 3 Hydra 52 for my mix reef tank about 4 yrs , still working no problem . My sps and lps very happy. I'll by it again.
Light change diaster
Do yourself a favor...buy a Radion. Unless you into sps tank wipeouts.
Hydra FiftyTwo HD LED
Ran these lights for over a year now and can't say one bad thing about them. I did supplement them with T5 light but that's any LED. I run 100% on all UV, Blues, Violet, and 24% red, green, and White to match blue plus and actinic ATI lighting.
Get The Best
I spent a lot of time and money trying to not spend what these cost only to realize that if you want the beautiful look of a reef tank, you have to have these.
Awesome lights! Looks super sleek with the EXT mounts. Love how AI is the only LED light that gives you the option of choosing a fixture color to match your tank and stand. They're super powerful and I feel that the color they give off has been improved on from the original hydra 52. I found the app to be intuitive and easy to use. These are the latest, most feature rich LEDs on the market and I feel they are the best bang for your buck. Also, AI customer service deserves like 10 stars! One of my lights had a bit of an issue out of the box and AI shipped me out a new one no questions asked with a paid return label to send back the defective one. Very pleased with these lights!
Overall Good Lights
I have two of these over my 120 gallon reef and all of my coral responded positively to the change, I had LEDs before. I really like the new HD feature. I'm fairly tech savvy and I did have some issue pairing the units and the APP interface isn't as user friendly as I would have hoped. I also am using the hanging kit and EXT rails and the lights are not completely balanced and I corrected this with small automotive weights. Thank goodness as a reefer I am also a DIY-er. This wont be an issue if you're using the rectangular rail kit. Since then the lights function well, run fairly cool and I can achieve the colors my corals and I like.
if your on a budget and not in a hurry ai runs sales around major holidays. You could probably get them at 500 instead of 599
Impressive light, poor interface
I am currently setting up a 180 mixed reef. Although the reviews on this site and others are great in regards to performance, everyone MUST know that you cannot control these with a third party controller, like Apex. The app is frustrating at times. That being said, the lights paired perfectly to wifi, app, and themselves (parent/child) and I am excited to see their performance first hand.
Huge upgrade from the Sols
I have had the Sols for a few years and I decided to upgrade to the Hydra 52 HDs. It was as big of an upgrade, if not bigger, as the upgrade from my old system to the Sols! The biggest feature is that they have much better spread. The colors make the corals pop much better as well. The happiness of my SPS dominant tank was almost instantly noticeable. I have better polyp extension as well as growth on the edges where the old lights wouldn't get to. The control interface is convenient, but takes some getting used to. It is relatively easy to use, but you have to learn by trial and error and a tutorial video would be helpful. I also wish they had a setting that tied directly into the actual seasonal sunrise/sunset as when I used my Apex to control the Sols. The interface is the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. The hardware is fantastic!
