Inconsistent, works well when it does
I purchased this one as a water change pump so that water changes would go much faster! Good news it pumps a lot of water no problem not so good news is the impeller regularly freezes based off of its design. Meaning the rubber gourmet the end of the pump impeller rests in is too tight of a fit. This causes me to have to re-seat housing and leave it slightly loose so it will continue to turn. That in turn causes it to come loose and not work. It really is a no win situation, but I will use it until it dies and get the Sicce pump that is designed for this.
HOT HOT HOT
Not only do I doubt the output of this pump, although I never tested, my biggest complaint it the temp. Barely need a heater and in the summer it actually over heated my tank. Replacing it soon. Seems well built and I think it's pretty quiet, will maybe use it for water changes but can't risk cooking my tank. Probably more suited for a pond/fountain where the temp won't be as big a deal.
Ordered this pump to replace an older 594 gph thinking i would almost double my flow, can hardly tell a difference in flow at all.
Bad pump. Great customer service.
Pump was not quiet from the start. After three 50 gallon water changes it stopped working, I called BRS and was advised to take it apart to check for any obvious issues. Managed to get it running but it made a lot of noise and the impeller moved around a lot. I called BRS and Nick was kind enough to get me an immediate replacement so the pump gets 0 stars and BRS gets 5 stars for excellent customer service. (Had LFS check the pump that afternoon and they verified it was finished.)
Not Impressed - 7 Months old and froze
(11-2-17) I purchased this pump in March 2017. The first thing I noticed is how quickly the flow drops off when there is head pressure. So my 4' space between my sump and display choked the flow down to around 600-650 gph. That was the first disappointment. The pump did run consistent. I did not have to keep adjusting my overflow drain like with some pumps. And, the pump is definitely low energy consumption. The apex reads around 35W. I took the pump apart to clean it 1 time. There was nothing to clean because the pump is in an isolated chamber of my sump that only copepods reside in. On 10-2-17 I woke to no flow in my reef. The pump was not working. I removed the pump. Took it apart and there was nothing impeding the impeller. The pump was terribly hot. I cooled it down, put it back together and tested it. Still not working and there was a slight hum coming from the motor. I believe the motor was frozen. Nothing I did would get the pump to work. As for the warranty service....pitiful. They DID finally replace the pump, AFTER 7 weeks and MY COST to ship it back to them. Now I am afraid to rely on the new one because of the failure of the first one....
Kinda loud it is a energy hog but will last several years does produce a lot of heat I know own a D.C. Return but this is a good beginner pump
4 years nonstop almost 24 hours a day...no problem at all.
Very good product. I' have one running since July 2013 with no issues. Its quiet as well.
Love Lifeguard pumps
I have used a lot of different brands of pumps. I like Lifeguard pumps the best. I just bought 2 ,1 for my 90 that was not a lifeguard and getting weak.I bought a 150 set up used and have had it for 3 years and just replaced the pump. .
Great pump for the money
Great pump, use it for mixing saltwater for water changes . Used for pumping water back to aquarium. Powerful , gets the job done .
Pumps like a firehose. Lots of power and quiet. The cord is kind of short which is great so you don't have to coil and try to hide it, but not so great if you have a long way to an outlet.
