  1. No problem with these.

Nothing wrong with these. They are spigot, meant to insert into fittings, not into pipe. The complaints are using them wrong. Since the spigot end is the same OD as its equivalent pipe, a coupling could be used to accomplish that if needed. But most people will use these with a fitting like an elbow.

  2. Do NOT use these with schedule 40 colored pipe!

Lesson learned! These will not work with the colored BRS schedule 40 pipe! In other words, the 3/4" barb will not attach to 3/4" pipe like you imagine it should - same was true for the 1" barb, it does not attach to 1" BRS pipe. I bought these barbs in 3/4" and 1" to use to connect soft tubing to BRS blue schedule 40 hard plumbing. I'm using 3/4" for the return and manifold, and two 1" drain lines all hard plumbed. So the OD of schedule 80 and 40 pipe is the same, so slip socket fittings should work just fine. But this is not slip socket, it's slip spigot. Slip what? The spigot is the male end, and goes inside the pipe. Well, the ID of schedule 80 is narrower since the walls of the pipe are thicker compared to schedule 40. So, it will just not work. So that's my plumbing lesson and advice to pass along, that may or may not be correct. I honestly do not know, but that is how I am making sense of this. Surely I can't be the only person who has run across this problem. For now, these are really nice to look at, and I imagine they would work quite well, so I rated them as 5 stars. They also came with great BRS customer service - as one might expect. I might have to return them though.

It seems like, if you're in my shoes, using that fancy (nice looking, too) colored schedule 40 pipe, you'll need a slip socket to male thread pipe adapter (SKU: 202540) - and then a female thread barb fitting (SKU: 202666). I believe this was the conclusion I reached via chat with the helpful BRS staff. My only question is why this same fitting is not available as slip socket barb in schedule 80?

Well, hopefully my review helps someone who's new at this like I, eh, still am.

This works well when used in conjunction with a properly sized slip fitting. Please note that this will not fit the inside diameter of a pipe.

Twice I tried to get these from BRS in 1" on the ID to fit 1" pipe and both times the ID is not 1.3" (actual size? on the ID to fit 1" pipe.

I was using this to connect to my Sicce return pump. The pump camp with two threaded barb fittings. The one that came with the pump fit snug into the tubing. This one here had too much space. I tried to clamp it down, but still to much space.

I used the braided nylon tubing to connect to this barb. I heated some DI water in a glass container and used that to soften the tubing, and put some silicone lube on the barb. The tube slipped on the barb very easily. Once cool, I could rotate the tube on the barb with some force, but it was very difficult to remove (as I would want). When I had to refit one connection, I actually wound up cutting the old tube off by slitting it rather than trying to pull it off.
