Had a Reef Octopus essence 130 for about 4 years now. It's always been a bit underwhelming. I've had to raise and lower the entire unit to keep it from overflowing every water change and after a cleaning. Now that I have the quantum I don't have to be so finicky about it. Using the water high adjustment makes all the changes a simple turn of the knob.
As for the the air valve, I've read using Teflon tape and getting it set to the desired intake will fix the adjustment from backing out and making microbubbles. Haven't tried it yet but I will.
This unit is so tunable that I get perfect skim every time. I've never been able to skim so aggressively for so long without fussing around. It's also dead silent. The reef octopus would make a low frequency hum that reminded you it was on, this almost has no sound. Kinda like when you have a power outage. It's nuts. Overall it's a great unit! 10 outta 10

I love this skimmer. Works perfectly. Broke in and stable skimmate has been flowing out of it since. Had the original defect but I'd buy it again. Not sure why brs is blowing its wad over only DC skimmers. My reef octopus DC skimmer pump on my co2 reactor is every bit as loud. PS why would Nyos try to rely on a glue bond of a round dowel in a round hole? Just make a square hole and peg end of the dowel.

I have had this skimmer for 5 months now, (I didn't buy it from BRS as they didn't carry NYOS at the time) and i have to say it's my favorite skimmer to date. I have had skimz, reef octopus and SWC prior. All skimmers do the same thing, they skim. Most skim well, but the looks and the reliable pump put this skimmer on top. The use of titanium screws is also great, as the the screws on a skimz monster pump have rusted on me. I have it running on a 120 gal, stocked with a high bio load of fish, minimum rock, and i feed 6-8 cubes a day.

Great skimmer. Easy setup, whisper quiet and build quality is flawless. I don’t even know it’s running it’s so quiet. Running on a well stocked 160 and it’s killing it. I would even say you could go all the way to a 250 well stocked and it would be fine. Easy to remove and clean skimmer cup. The slight curve makes it so easy to clean. Highly recommend this skimmer.

I love this skimmer works fabulous. Super quiet, great quality. Did have a issue with one piece they ended up sending me out a new skimmer to replace mine for the trouble. I'm going to get another one when I set up my next tank this year.

I'm giving 4 stars due to misleading current draw on pump. Its listed at 18 and actually pulls close to 50. Nyos says this varies due to water level but I call foul on that.
Other than the above issue this skimmer has worked like a champ. I have it running on a crazy heavily stocked Red Sea Reefer 170.
I feed heavily both pelleted foods, AquaForest coral foods, and automated dosing of Easy Reefs Easy Booster and EasySPS EVO
Nitrate and phosphate consistently less than 2 and 0.03 respectively
I attribute the ability to keep low nutrients to the skimmer working so well (and perhaps a tad overkill for a 170)
The pump is nearly silent and the construction is top notch
Eco Tech is the US distributor and parts are quite easy to obtain.
The 160 and above have convenient drain hoses on the collection cups.
All the skimmers can have ozone injected and have dedicated ozone injection ports.
