Growing macro algae in your refugium or sump can help reduce nitrate and phosphate levels in your saltwater tank while providing a safe harbor for micro-fauna to thrive.

The Halo II H380 has been specifically designed to emit a spectrum that will allow algae and other plants to grow to their fullest potential by targeting the wavelengths and spectrum required. The H380 does have the ability to change spectrum, that will allow you to fine tune the lighting for the best growth of your specific type of algae. Allowing faster growth will, therefore, allow the algae to remove more nutrients from the water column.

With the different types of Kessil mounting options, like the gooseneck, mounting the H380 is super easy and can mount on almost any sump or in any location.

Dense Matrix LED Technology

Kessil is a leader when it comes to LED lighting technology. With their Dense Matrix LED's producing a concentrated source of light, and switchable spectrum every wavelength within the spectrum is mixed perfectly allowing even and full growth. The H380 now has 30% more power than its predecessors allowing for deeper penetration and greater efficiency. The one fixture contains two unique full color spectrum blends with enhanced UV light.

Switchable Spectrum

Extreme Purple - Ideal for the growth phase of algae or plants. This spectrum will produce rapid growth while producing a lush, healthier algae. We suggest tuning the H380 closer to this spectrum to allow faster growth and uptake of nutrients.

Extreme Magenta - Targets the bloom stage, driving plants to increase quality and quantity of yield.

Product Questions

How high should you mount this light?
Question by: Joshua on Nov 3, 2019, 12:17 PM
Hey there-

Great question! While mounting height can vary depending on your set-up, we would recommend at least 6-8" above the water to avoid burning your macroalgae and in order to maximize the distribution of light in the refugium.

Take care! c:

HI, I would like to buy one, but can you tell me more about noise level, thanks Nick.
Question by: nick on Jan 25, 2018, 7:44 AM
The Kessil H380 lights are virtually silent.
Answer by: Charlie on Jan 25, 2018, 4:39 PM
My H380 came with an ac adapter that differs slightly from the manual specs.

Specs: Input 100-240 VAC 47-63 Hz 1.5 A MAX Output 19 VDC, 4.74 A
Actual: Input 100-240 V 50-60 Hz ~1.6 A Output 19.5 V 4.62 A Max. 90 W

Can someone confirm this is the correct ac adapter?
Question by: Anthony Powell on Dec 13, 2017, 10:29 PM
Hi there,
Thank you for reaching out with your question.
The power supply that was provided with your light is the correct AC adapter. Manufacturers sometimes make small changes to the product and accessories after the manuals are printed. That adapter will work with that light with out any issues.
Let us know if you have any questions!

I'm a bit new to the refugium setup within a sump. How would you typically mount a light like this to a refugium within an acrylic sump? Does it come with some kind of mount? Also, do you need to have dark panels separating the refugium from other sections of the sump so algae doesn't grow in the Protein Skimmer and Return sections of the pump? Thanks!
Question by: Mike Sharp on May 23, 2017, 1:06 PM
The easiest way to mount this light in most setups will be to use the gooseneck mount and clamp to the side of the sump.

I have a small separate refugium area with this light over it. I was considering adding a clam, but i was unsure if this type of light would support a clam. Any ideas?
Question by: Daniel on Jan 24, 2017, 9:31 AM
Hey there! This light is primarily used for algae growth and not for life support for inhabitants like clams. The biggest concern, besides proper life support spectrum, is that the ever growing algae will eventually take over the clam and starve/over crowd it until it dies. I wouldn't advise it. :-)
Answer by: Admin on Jan 28, 2017, 7:29 AM
Controllable (Apex?).
Question by: Luke on Jan 1, 2017, 11:54 PM
Great question! It is not controllable with the Apex nor the Kessil Spectral Controller.

Answer by: Randy on Jan 4, 2017, 2:55 PM
Can this light be controlled with the Apex Neptune controller?
Question by: John Bays on Dec 30, 2016, 11:25 AM
Great question! You will only be able to control the ON/OFF functionality of this light with the Neptune Apex. This does not work with the 0-10V variable speed ports.

Does this light provide the spectrum of light needed to help maintain pH stability in the system when the Display tank lights are turned off? Looking for a light that can provide maximum algae growth and pH stability in the system, any suggestions?
Question by: Hunter on Jul 2, 2016, 6:45 PM
Great question and tough to answer!
In short the light has been used on several of our tanks including the BRS 160 with success in keeping the algae growth constant without major pH swings between day and night. It certainly has worked on our systems but there are several other variable which can impact pH. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor on Jul 6, 2016, 12:23 PM
Is this available in white by chance?
Question by: Joe on Jul 1, 2016, 8:04 PM
Right now, Kessil is only offering the black for this model.
Answer by: Valerie W on Jul 5, 2016, 11:59 AM
Do you recommend running light 24/7 (if used for refugium)? If not, I will need a separate timer? Thanks.
Question by: Floyd Fortuin on Jul 1, 2016, 12:05 PM
We recommend 18 hours of maximum refugium lighting per day. A timer will be a perfect option for this!
Answer by: Connor on Jul 1, 2016, 12:46 PM
How is the intensity/spectrum controlled on this light? I plan to use it as a refugium light as suggested on BRS series but concerned about how close it will be hung (given stand height restriction) vs shallow refugium height.
Question by: Elisabeth Duarte on Apr 17, 2016, 2:05 AM
Great question!
This light has a single knob to adjust the intensity of the fixture. There is only 2 spectrums included the grow(recommended for algae) and bloom which is strictly used in hydroponics or plant flowering. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
