- DOW 111 - O-Ring Lubricant
Why does BRS recommend this?
Have you ever had a canister get stuck and not want to come off when you are replacing filters on your RODI system? The secret is putting a slight amount of DOW 111 lubricant on the O-ring every time you replace the filters. We usually have a bottle of sitting with our replacement filters.
Dow 111 O-ring lubricant is used to prevent the O-rings in RO canisters from binding up when tightened and provides a tight seal.
Available in Single Use tube or 5.3 oz tube.

Less tightening and no leaks By Adamsabina on 5/1/2019
Adamsabina would recommend this product to a friendI used it on my RODI. I put a tiny bit on the major threads and a tiny amount on the surface where o-ring goes.
I was tightening about 100 ft/lbs and sometimes it leaked. Now about 35ft/lbs and no leaks! This NEEDS a BRS video. -
It did not come as pictured... By RussC on 8/29/2018
RussC would recommend this product to a friendIt did not come in a re-sealable tube as pictured. Its a small packet that you have to cut open to use. However, for the small amount you'll use, its plenty. -
Must have for all o ring's. By Dapg8gt on 6/28/2017
Dapg8gt would recommend this product to a friendI've had a single tube of this around for 10+ years.. Use it on all reef related o'rings plus all o'rings in my care. I've had it so long I don't even have the cap anymore and it's still chugging along. It will probably be around when I die and they have to clean out my garage hoard lol.. -
A must Have! By Merle on 4/26/2017
Merle would recommend this product to a friendI got by without buying this for a couple of cartridge changes and paid the price! Without using this, the O-rings in my 150 gpd RO/DR didn't exactly dry out, but they no longer allowed the canisters to slip by without sticking. This caused undo wear on the O-rings, leaks etc. Ultimately, I had to replace the rings. An unneeded cost had I just bought the Molykote 111 at the start. Buy the 5.3 Oz tube and it will last you a lifetime. -
DO NOT OVER LOOK THIS PRODUCT!! By Zach on 2/19/2017
Zach would recommend this product to a friendWish I purchased this lube when I started my tank build a year ago! I Found out O rings do not like dry installations, especially for true union fittings. -
A must have for all orings By Ryan on 8/26/2016
Ryan would recommend this product to a friendI put some of this on my Vertex Zeovit reactor o-ring on the rod that you hand pump everyday - made it 10 TIMES easier. Also plan to use it on any and all oring seals that need frequent removal - skimmer, filter canisters, etc. Good stuff! -
Makes all the difference in orings By Al on 4/9/2016
Al would recommend this product to a friendI used to have to reseat the protein skimmer orings as much as 5 times prior to using this -
I can't believe the stores that sold me products with orings did not tell me about this -
Works Great By Dedeo on 7/6/2013
Dedeo would recommend this product to a friendMy Marineland c360 canister filter was leaking and sending out millions of tiny air bubbles the 4th time is cleaned it. spent hours trying to figure it out. I emailed Marineland and they said I needed to lubricate the big Oring around the lid of canister. I said ''yeah right''. This stuff worked great. No leaking and no bubbles. The only reason I gave it a 4 star rating was because there were no instructions. This product works Great!!!!!! -
Feel silly for not ordering before By Travis on 5/7/2012
Travis would recommend this product to a friendSo I feel a little silly now for all the times I struggled and cursed at struggling to be able to open my RO canisters to change the filters! I should have know better but now that I do hopefully they won't be such a pain to open next time and if they're not I might have to invest in the larger size.
How many uses might one expect to get out of the 5.3 oz package?

Hi Chris,
It depends on the size of your o-rings and how much your applying each use, but for most folks in the hobby its a lifetime supply :-)

Is this reefsafe for use in reactor canisters or even skimmer necks (for my Bubble Kind that screws in)?

Great question!
These lubricants are designed for use in drinking water systems are certainly can work in the tank without issue. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
