Quick Overview

Why does BRS recommend this?

Tunze Controllable pumps have been around for years and year with a great reputation.  Tunze now includes a controller with all their controllable powerheads which greatly increases their value. The Turbelle pumps are very quiet, and for everything you get the price is hard to beat.

Wide-flow DC pump from German-made Tunze powerheads - one of the best high flow powerheads available. The design of the 6095 helps the propeller pull in more water and push out more water extremely efficiently. The wide-flow produces a much less directed flow pattern (2-3 Ft around) and reaches over 3 Ft at a slightly slower flow than the Tunze Turbelle 6055. Great for tanks 3 Ft or less in length.

    • For aquariums from 26-264 gallons

  • Plenty of power By Michael on 3/30/2017

I have two of these on my 120 gallon and even turned up only half way they provide plenty of flow. Great design, super quiet, and plenty of power. I was really tempted by Vortech's sleeker design and external wires, but I settled on these based on input regarding their reliability and noise level. I'm really happy with the choice.
  • Great pump! By Blackhawkfan on 3/13/2017

Decided to try one of these to replace the Maxspect gyre 150 that failed after 14 months of use. I have 6025's that I have had since 2009 that still work great, so I decided to go back to Tunze and I am glad I did. Great, quiet, powerful little pump!
  • what more can you ask for? By Swany on 12/14/2016

works great have 2 on a 6 foot 150 reef best flow pumps I have used over the 14+ years
  • Excellent By Mike on 9/4/2016

I have 1 6095 in my 220g sps reef. I need a bit more flow along the back, and this does the trick. I'll be adding one more in the near future. Silent, and the wide flow is fantastic.
  • Decent By Drew on 5/21/2016

These are good powerheads, although I was expecting a little more. Although Zak gave a very harsh rating, he is correct about the issue with the pump starting and stopping randomly. I experienced this as well, although maybe not to the severity that he did. The pumps are very finicky and fussy, I find that there is often times little consistency between what my two pumps are doing even though they are set to do the same thing. The pumps have some auto stop safety features that seem as though they need to be perfected a little further. They seem to be too sensitive and end up stopping a little too frequently. They do work well the majority of the time though and I like the fact the flow can be directed any direction. I also appreciate that there is a battery backup option for these and they are much cheaper than a vortech and are not limited to just one direction of flow like the vortech. These pumps are also incredibly quiet and I found their customer support to be very good. I just hope they are able to fine tune these a little more but all in all I think they are a good bang for the buck and probably the best option for features offered at the price point.
  • Pump shipped and did not work upon arrival By Zak on 12/14/2015

First of all, the controller for this pump has a decent learning curve. Its not horrible but it is a bit cumbersome. Secondly, the pump came in and I was pretty excited. Unboxed it, put it in the tank, fired it up. Could not figure out why the pump was starting and stopping after ~10-15 minutes of operation while in wave mode. I tried 100% no pulse, this only lasts for a couple of seconds before shutting off for 30+ seconds and then restarting. Talked to Tunze about this. Tunze rep straight up told me that this is pretty normal because the impeller is set extremely close to the cylinder and can cause the pump to stop because it thinks there is something caught in the pump. He told me to run it at 100% for two week and this would burn it in to the point where the issue would resolve itself. 2 weeks? Really? Why would you buy a pump and then be expected to burn in a pump for two weeks? On top of that, I can't run the pump at 100% because it stops every few seconds, so it would take ages to burn the pump in.
Eventually, the rep was able to send me a completely new pump, which is coming in tonight, and I will see if this pump does not have this issue. Also, it is worth noting that it has taken more than 2 weeks to get this issue resolved by Tunze and that BRS would not allow a refund because I took the pump out of the box. At this point I just want a refund, but no one is able to give me a refund or even store credit.
  • Good, but a little spendy By David F on 10/10/2014

Good pumps, I have mine embedded in the rockwork of my 250DD. Build quality of the pumps are good, but the controller connection box is a little flimsy. I control mine with an Apex
  • Very happy! By Charles on 2/10/2014

I recently setup a 6ft 125 gallon tank with mostly soft corals and a few LPS and a couple SPS. I was having trouble deciding between the 6095 and the 6105 with the length of my tank. I am glad I went with these! Not only do they work out great for my tank, but I saved a few bucks! I am very pleased with these.
  • overall great By sweedish15 on 8/20/2013

I have two of these in my standard size 90 gallon reef, mostly sps. They are run on a tunze 7092 controller. They've been a part of the system for 9 months. Each pump comes with several voltage crystals that can be used to control the amount of power going to the pump, so basically you can dial it down or drive it up without the use of a controller. With the controller I can produce a nice wave in the tank. As far as flow these pumps replaced two koralia evo 1050's. There was nothing wrong with the koralia's, but even though they are rated very different, I have not seen any significant difference in the overall health, happiness and growth in the tank.

That being said I am very happy with the pumps. Depending on placement they will stir most of the detritus that settles to the sand during feeding and are noticeably stronger than the koralia's. With all things, you get what you pay for. I cleaned them for the first time after nine months, they come apart very easily, are very well built and after a vinegar water bath they basically wiped clean and look brand new. They are very quiet, but not silent, I would say the koralia's were just as quiet. WIth the controller you do hear them revving from stop to power if the room is completely silent. The titanium shafts and replaceable parts makes repairs easily if necessary.

Pros: well built, controllable, small, quiet, long power cord, very wide flow, strong

    Cons: expensive

Product Questions

Will this pump magnet work with a 1/2" glass thickness?
Question by: curt on Feb 3, 2015 5:11:00 AM
Great Question Curt! This will work on 1/2" glass, the 6095 will work on glass up to 15mm.

Will the Apex VDM module work with the Tunze Turbelle Nanostream 6095 pump? Also, what's the difference between the Turbelle and the Turbelle Nanostream pumps?

I have a 240 (8' long) tank. I have two Vortech MP40s on either end, but there isn't enough flow. I would like to add two pumps on the back wall. I tried another MP40 but it was too much flow - sand was blowing everywhere. I would also like to be able to point the flow. That's why I'm considering the Tunze. Do you have any recommendations on which Tunze to get? It's a mixed reef.

Question by: Daire on Dec 23, 2013 5:41:00 AM
Hi Daire,
The apex VDM moldule (and the VDM to tunze cable) is exactly what you would need for a controllable tunze pump like the 6095. When it comes to the differences is name, the nano streams are smaller pumps (youll see the smaller, lower flow pumps are labeled turbelle "nano"stream) and the others are " turbelle stream" pumps.

The tunze is a great pump and if you want something that has a fairly dispersed flow like the vortechs, but you can point in the direction you want, the 6095 is the route to go.
