  • Good with caveats By Mark on 8/20/2017

I just finished putting this together. First, you need a 3/4" drill bit (I didn't have one), and you get plastic shavings everywhere. Once that is done, then it's just a question of scoring/cutting the acrylic rod to the correct length and then putting the fittings together. I'm rating this as 3 stars for several reasons: 1) The acrylic rod doesn't fit tightly enough into the plastic bulkhead to maintain a seal - if you use flexible tubing, then the seal is much better and dripping is much more reliable. I could Crazy Glue/silicone the acrylic rod in place, and may still do that; 2) I don't like the idea of blowing into some tubing to start the siphon (as it turns out, a 20 cc syringe placed at the outlet tubing and drawn back creates enough suction to start the siphon); and 3) if this works, it may be an improvement - soft airline tubing also fits in well enough to maintain a siphon, and I plan on trying an IV roller clamp to adjust drip rates. It's not here yet; if that works, then I would see that as an upgrade to the valve which is a little inconvenient for fine tuning drips. Had I known how much work it would be, I'd have probably bought a cheap dosing pump to be placed in the container, but we'll see how this goes.
  • Just finished assembly By Robert on 4/1/2017

It went together fast, no problems. I used a tupperware 3/4 gallon container with a relatively soft plastic top. I had no problem with the build. I have the valve down to a drop every 10 seconds, that took some time to get it regulated. I think that the valve is to large to get the drips to where I think that they need to be, however that being said, it works and with some minor mods it believe that I can even get to drip at a slower rate
  • Crap By Jason on 11/17/2016

I built just as the video, with the oxo container. Blowing does not start the siphon and the ball valve can't adjust down enough to a drip per second, it's either flowing or stopped.

Honestly, I can't believe your pushing this setup with a video. I could see someone dumping too much kalk at once into a tank, there is zero control on this setup.
  • Works great. By AZReefjunkie on 8/28/2016

I used this to improve my ATO container. Works exactly as intended.
  • all the parts in one package By awesome on 5/16/2016

Great little DIY package. can be used to Drip Kalk, or can be hooked up to a dosing pump and used as a dosing container.
  • Pretty good product By Rich on 5/2/2016

Getting all these fittings from BRS is cheaper than going to a box store. They are quality fittings and for all those that say they don't come apart once put together, well, they are entirely wrong. They are kinda like Chinese handcuffs, you have to push in before pulling out. Maybe Ryan could do a quick video to show everyone how easy it really is. Then only complaint is the valve being difficult to get a slow drip-say around 1 or 2 drops per second. When you get it set properly you find hours later that it has to be adjusted again. But other than that there are no leaks or problems at all.
  • Save your money By Dave on 4/20/2016

This product did not meet my expectations, nor did it work as promised. I'm going to toss this and get a dosing pump.
  • Just what I needed all in one package. By Josh V on 4/5/2016

This kit was just what I needed to convert a simple Tupperware container into an ATO top off reservoir. Worked great with the pump I got from these guys. Thanks BRS!
  • Good product By Jordan on 4/3/2016

This is a great device for drop acclimation or dosing calc. I would buy again
  • Video was valuable By s S56 on 3/1/2016

The instructional video made it very easy. One thing you do need to check is whatever container you choose make sire the lid is not very thick so its easy to drill or cut through. Walmart carries inexpensive gallon containers with thin screw on lids.
  • Working just like it was explained n Video By ReefNewbie on 2/19/2016

I followed each step exactly the way the video described - and nothing went wrong.
I bought two Class containers and made holes on top of one container's lid. Use the other one prepared to replace when the first one runs out.

One note: As I replace the container moving the "peeped" lid from the empty to the full - I need to blow on the shorter pipe after securing the lid. That obviously gets rid of the vacuum. No worries at all... as the water starts flowing (adjusting the valve) - I just open the lid again and reseat it. Like a charm it works... :-)
  • SIPHON DON'T WORK By CXK03fishtanks on 2/11/2016

This is hands down the worst thing I have ever purchased. Put it together the first time, because the pieces never come off

Product Questions

How does this work once you make it? Do you just add your daily measured out solution into the container and let it slowly drip the entire amount? I'm guessing it's just a way to add the solution slowly or can you make it slow enough to dose over a couple days, if so how do you figure out the amount it is letting into your system?
Question by: James on Jun 5, 2014 11:32:00 AM
Hey James,
You got it. You mix up the solution you need to dose for the day, put it in the container and start it dripping. Over the coarse of the day it will drip into the tank. We actually have a YouTube video on using it, you can find it right here:

What advantage would the dropper have over dosing from the ATO? Where is the best position for this on the tank?
Question by: K on Mar 29, 2014 1:16:00 PM
Hi there,
For most the dripper is not an advantage over putting it in your ATO. Its a solution for those who either don't have an ATO system or don't have one that is compatible with using kalk (like something that adds a lot of water to the tank at once).

You want to drip the solution into a high flow area of the tank, most folks use somewhere in the sump but really wherever it is convenient will do the trick.

Could you use this to make a version of the Tunze 5074 calcium dispenser?
Question by: Scott Vandiver on Mar 18, 2016 9:24:00 PM
Great question!
This kit will make a DIY version of the Tunze 5074. You can use a variety of bottles which work for your system. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

Is the bulkhead fitting sold separately ? I can't find it. Should be listed in related products.

Hey there!

Great question! The BRS DIY Kalkwasser Dripper Kit does come with (2) - 1/4” Mur-lok Push Connect Bulkhead Tank Adapters.

Will this also work as a dosing container to be used with a Bubble Magnus dosing pump and air line tubing? Thanks.
Question by: Jeff on Mar 27, 2014 8:31:00 AM
Hi Jeff,
This is a fitting kit to create a mall dropped using your own container. You could certainly use some of
It's parts to create a dosing pump container as well, though a dosing pump doesn't require an air tight seal (in fact it must be vented) so you wouldn't need to make it nearly as complex. Just a simple dip tube and an opening for air to get in would be all you need.
