The golden rule of plumbing is that every job takes three trips to the store. While this can be frustrating locally it can be much worse when shopping online. Being short a fitting or two can delay a plumbing project for days. Here are some quick tips to avoid this.
- Plan your plumbing on paper
- Don't skimp on unions. Unions allow for easy breakdown and maintenance as well as remove the need for precise elbow placement. Use them as often as possible.
- When in doubt order extra. We happily accept returns for a full refund (less shipping) on all unused fittings within one month of purchase. A few extra bucks in return shipping is less frustrating than a project delay.
Check Regularly By MJT on 11/3/2017MJT would recommend this product to a friendThis is a well built and designed check valve. It’s true that it is loud and will hammer your system when it closes but that’s not going to happen very often.
One WARNING: They freeze up quilckly (30-60 days) and will not close as desired on system shut down. If you own one check it regulary. I have solve this problem by a daily shutdown program that keeps the valve free.
Rocey but good By JIm Mc on 10/5/2017JIm Mc would recommend this product to a friendI use two of these valves. Have been using them for about 3 years now. They have failed once on me and that was because I had neglected to keep it clean. I always use this valve with unions and a ball valve on my returns.
I see others have had problems. As I mentioned the only time this valve failed on my was because of me.
Great quality BUT incredibly loud By Pixel Reef on 9/18/2017Pixel Reef wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI have a 1.5" check valve. Valve is built very well, however it makse a loud hammer noise throughout my entire system every time I shut off my reeflo pump . Fish go flying into their hiding place every time and pust to much stress on my plumbing from all the vibration.
Exactly what I wanted, one minor improvement. By TRS on 9/12/2017TRS would recommend this product to a friendThis is exactly what I wanted and works as such. The one improvement would be to make it easier to grasp the plunger for cleaning.
Seems to be seome QC issues with the more recent Valves By William on 8/9/2017William wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI use 6 of these in my system (1x 2”, 3x 1", and 2x 3/4") and four of the six fail to seat at least half of the time, all purchased this year.
Not Reliable By Brent on 7/31/2017Brent wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThis valve has failed on me on multiple occasions. Plunger fails to drop and seat resulting in a flooded basement sump room! I keep the valve very clean and it still does not work properly. Going to replace asap. Basement sump has overflowed 3 times!!!!! Poor quality product!
Terrible Product By michael on 7/26/2017michael wouldn't recommend this product to a friendDO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! I purchased this check valve based on the review of one of the BRS videos which stated this was suppose to be the best check valve. I paid $80 for a 1 1/4" check valve. I was sold when I learned you can simply take out the plunger and clean it. Well, I installed it without any unions to my plumbing since it should never leak and only leak when crud builds up on the plunger which can simply be taken out and cleaned. Brand new setup, no crud build up on plunger and it still leaked. I emailed BRS but never received an email back regarding the problem. Save your money and buy one of the cheaper check valves with unions on them. Replace or soak in vinegar when crud builds up on the flapper and it begins to leak. Luckily, my sump is big enough to handle the back flow from the tank. You've been warned!! I would give it negative five stars if I could. For the money I spent, I could have bought two to three true union check valves instead.
Failed in less than two months By Christopher on 7/19/2017Christopher wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThis unit failed in less than two months and I flooded my basement. I thought I could rely on it and lower my return jets deeper into the tank. The first time the pump turned off, it sucked all the water back into the sump and overflowed. Good thing I was home. Do not buy.
great check valve By tarpongriller on 2/22/2017tarpongriller would recommend this product to a friendIn use 1 month and works great. Can hear the valve close when shutting off pump. very confident that this valve will be working for a long time to come. Buy it.
Peace of mind By Ian on 2/4/2017Ian would recommend this product to a friendYes the product is pricey but with so many pros vs cons I am glad that it is installed on my system.
- able to remove and clean
- simple smooth plunger
- see thru
Very reliable By Anibal on 12/16/2016Anibal would recommend this product to a friendPerforms as intended, easy to clean and very reliable
2 month old check valve failed By luis on 11/27/2016luis wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThis check valves are not worth the money they cost. You be better off with the cheaper ones. Mine failed during a power outage and the check valve is about 2 month old.
Ask a question
Check valves are made for rigid PVC pipe. If you are using flexible tubing then you will need to pick up some barb adapters to convert the fittings from being for rigid PVC to being for flexible tubing. The exact fitting will depend on your plumbing, but it is likely one of the fittings below and a coupler.
We use regular weld on 711 industrial glue. However standard schedule 40 glue will work fine! The bottom and top of the valve are the same size as a piece of pipe and we recommend using unions to connect in line. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
The Georg Fisher Wye Check Valve sizes have nothing to do with the size of the valve. The sizes are in fact directly related to the size of the PVC fitting they will work with. For example the 3/4" check valve will work with all 3/4" elbows, unions or other items you will glue a standard 3/4" pipe in. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
This will need to be mounted vertically for the float to trigger. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
any upside down check valve will not work as water only flows down the valve. Check valves cannot be used on drain lines. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions.
The description states these are "Slip x Slip". Wouldn't it be more accurate to say they are "Street x Street" or "Spigot x Spigot"? Each end of it fits INTO a socket (or slip) fitting. It's also I think a good idea to put a slip union on one end and an MPT adapter on the other, for easy removal and/or change of plan for the use of this expensive item.
It is in fact a spigot x spigot fitting. Additionally highly recommended is the use of 2 unions or a union and an MPT adapter. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
That would be the case, unless the two returns come together at the sump and you could put the check valve on before they split.
