  • Finally died after 24 years By Steve on 2/16/2014

I have had two of these WMD-30RLT-115 pumps on my 180 gallon system for over 24 years. One returns water from the sump to the tanks while the other runs a skimmer. These are the American motors. I noticed the housings starting to rust 4 years ago so I bought a spare. Glad I did because tonight the bearing finally went out on the return pump. The Japanese housings should not rust because they are made of Aluminum. I know the bearing failed because it squealed and whined loudly. So, I'm buying another American WMD as a replacement spare in case the skimmer pump fails on a Sunday night. If the American motors are inferior to the Japanese motors, then the Japanese motors must last for 50 years. But, I'm not willing to pay the extra $60. I'm very satisfied with the WMD.
