- AWC Auto Water Changer (Plus ATO) - AutoAqua
Auto Water Change Plus Auto Top Off
Change your reef tanks water automatically with AutoAqua's AWC system. AWC & ATO All-In-One. Water changes are one of the most time-consuming maintenance items with saltwater aquariums. There has been plenty of debate over how much water you should change every week or bi-weekly, but no one ever argues with daily water changes. Changing 2% of your water every day will greatly increase your tanks stability and potential for longevity.
- Includes pumps & tubing
- Optical sensors = no moving parts
- Secure tube holders
- Siphon breaks
The simple system uses dual optical sensors, one for a high water level and another for a low water level. The high water level sensor acts as the ATO sensor, knowing when to refill your saltwater tank, from the freshwater reservoir. The top sensor also lets the AWC Touch controller know when to stop refilling the tank after a water change has occurred. The low water sensor acts as the minimum water level when a water change is in progress. During the water change, the output pump will pump water out of your tank our sump into a wastewater reservoir, or floor drain until the low water sensor is activated, telling the controller to turn on the input pump until the high water sensor is tripped, completing the water change and then reverting to a top off controller.
It is important to make sure the optical sensors are placed in the same chamber (usually the return chamber) where the water level will fluctuate during a water change.

Perfect so far..... By Reefer Rob on 7/8/2018Reefer Rob would recommend this product to a friendAfter experiencing 2 failures at 18 months with a cheaper temputure based unit, I decided to spend a little more and invest some time. Turns out this was so easy to install and very affordable. Drilling the sump for the backup float switch took the longest time at 15 minutes. Thanks for the advice BRS. After that was done, the two level sensors went in and I mounted the controller to the panel. It is perfectly small and fits in only 4 inches of space. My system is gravity fed. So, I ordered the solenoid valve and adjusted the plumbing a little. It plugged right in in place of the pump and works perfectly. It holds back the 4 feet of static head pressure from my DI drum. The system thinks it is a pump and opens it when needed. I hope to get the water changes going soon. Might post another review after that. For now, I’ll say this is an excellent product. Brilliant design, easy, intuitive, simple and effective. It might be appropriate to call it the iPhone of the ATO options.
Perfect! By Ace on 6/15/2018Ace would recommend this product to a friendAwesome and easy!
Great piece of equipment By JWT1603 on 4/30/2018JWT1603 would recommend this product to a friendI travel a lot for work. My wife likes to help out with the tank when I'm gone and this makes it even easier for her. She just keeps the two containers full and empties the waste water container. We've had the unit for several moths now and it's working fine. You do have to read the directions to program it, easy enough but it would be tough to try and set it up without following the instruction booklet.
TECHIE MUST HAVE By Dusan on 3/15/2018Dusan would recommend this product to a friendThis thing does it all. Have it set up on my 20L, and look forward to only making RODI, mixing saltwater, and cleaning the glass as my tank maintenance from now on. Optic sensors pare very accurate, and the pumps are strong, can fit them into 5 gallon water carriers. Perfect. Shout out to the BRS guys for changing my shipping options on the fly. Amazing for the price.
Best investment for my nano reef so far! By Henry F. on 3/5/2018Henry F. would recommend this product to a friendDoes the water changes and ATO.... enough said!
We'll see if it holds up... By Greg on 3/4/2018Greg would recommend this product to a friendI'm using this in a 32 Biocube with a 12 gallon sump/refugium. I just installed it and it's set to change a little less than a gallon/day - 5 gallons per week. So far: AWESOME! I almost can't believe it is doing what no other system will do at even 5 times the price. Makes the others look silly for not thinking of it. The pumps ARE small, and may not last, but so far they are great. If this thing stays doing what it does out of the box, it's literally got no competition.
Great System but throw the pumps away and buy something more powerful. By Brad on 2/12/2018Brad would recommend this product to a friendI have the AutoAqua AWC on my 120 gallon African Cichlid aquarium. The controller is great but the pumps are not useable and I had to purchase different replacement pumps from Amazon. The new pumps are great and only cost $11.99 each. The tiny pumps that came with the system do not have enough power to pump from my water makeup tank up to my aquarium. I measured the pumping height one pump and it could only pump up to around 14 inches (So much for the 6.5 feet advertised.) The original discharge pump from the aquarium to the drain took an hour and twenty five minutes to pump only 3 gallons. (not even close to the advertised 74 GPH) In summary - the controller is fantastic but the pumps are crap. I do not understand why they would engineer such a great controller with under powered pumps.
FIRE By Jonathan on 1/31/2018Jonathan would recommend this product to a friendIts made care of my 10 gallon reef tank almost too simple.
Great product! By Scott on 12/29/2017Scott would recommend this product to a friendSo I've only had this unit for a few days but this thing is awesome! Auto top off and auto water change in one small unit! It changes out 3 gallons every other day with only having to mix a barrel of salt water once a month, easy peasy
No more bucket brigade! By Tyler on 12/27/2017Tyler would recommend this product to a friendThis is great for a daily WC on my skimmerless nano. The return chamber of the IM Nuvo 20 allows me to drain one liter at a time; exactly 2% of my true water volume after displacement. You can also set the refill time at various speeds for a single fill or multiple fills over an extended period, allowing for acclimation. This will definitely add another layer of stability to me reef.

Can you program this system to do daily water changes of xx amount at X time or do you have to manually start the water change with the push of a button
The AutoAqua AWC can do both scheduled water changes as well as an on demand water change at the push of a button.
Have a great day.
