MatrixCarbon is an activated carbon unlike any other. Formed as spherical beads from bituminous carbon sources, MatrixCarbon creates optimal water flow and contact. Because of its macroporous structure, MatrixCarbon is very effective at scavenging organic molecules from the water. It is also an extremely clean carbon with very low ash content, and the lowest phosphate of any carbon on the market. What this means is that you get a high-performing carbon that is extremely effective at removing organic pollutants and chemicals, both in rate of adsorption and duration of effective use.

Why Spherical Carbon?

Spherical pellets are ideal because they create a uniform media bed that maintains even water flow throughout, and they prevent the carbon particles from compacting together which can slow water flow and reduce the available surface area of the carbon. The spherical granules are sized to create maximum water contact without being small enough to escape filter bags. Thanks to MatrixCarbon’s hydrodynamic properties, more ash is washed from the carbon, making it one of the cleanest activated carbons available.



  • 250 mL will easily treat 100 US gallons (~400 Liters).
  • Use in a filter bag or media reactor. Rinse before use.


Tip: For best results, MatrixCarbon should be placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it. It may be used in a media reactor, canister filter, box filter, or any high flow area of your sump where water can be effectively directed through the media.
