Do you have plastic frames? I noticed that the aluminum does not work well for salt water. The edges erodes in about 6 months. Not sure if it is safe for fish.

    Bulk Reef Supply Hi Amos,

We do not carry any plastic framing at this time. We have found the aluminum framing to be the best option for this application. I have actually been using our frames on my system at home and have not noticed any appreciable amount of oxidation on my over the course of a few years. I have noticed that salt creep tends to collect in the corners so that may be the bulk of what you are seeing.

While there may be a small amount of oxidation at the cut ends or where paint may have been worn away I would not consider it a threat to your system. If there is a build up of salt on your tops it may be a good idea to clean them periodically. Simply rinse the frame and screen with fresh water and wipe away and build up of salt or oxidation.

    I hope this helps!
    Have a great day :)

What is this made of? Plastic or ALuminum

    Bulk Reef Supply Hi Michael,
The frames themselves are made of aluminum. The corners are made of plastic.

  • DIY screens By Harpo on 1/24/2015

Easy to assy. and easy to modify if needed. I gave it a 4 because of the frame should be plastic. I had mine for a time and the coating is effected by the saltwater.
  • perfect By wood on 12/20/2013

The first came bent but they replaced with no problem. I cut each piece to fit perfect no problem at all
  • Easy to assemble, looks great!!! By Troy on 3/2/2013

I ordered the frame sections, corners, screen, spline, and spline roller. I followed BRS's youtube video on assembly and it was easy. The finished product looks great on the tank. I love the fact that BRS leverages youtube the way they do. It is easy and very informative, one of the primary reasons why I go to them for my supplies...:)
  • Easy as hell By Steve on 12/9/2012

So easy to put together a chimp could do it. Great product !
  • Common sense By jamison on 2/9/2012

You have to cut the frame too size and is stated it is 4 feet. Also the spline works fine. It is the same as repairing a screen window.

Works as stated and easy to do. Hardest part is cutting the frame with a saw.
  • Not the same By Andrew on 1/9/2012

This doesn't appear to be the same product that is shown in the BRS video:

Custom Top Off Box and Screen Top EP:8 How to Setup a Saltwater Aquarium

The length of the pieces is too short and there is no way to splice two short pieces together. The video shows pieces about 36" long, but the pieces shipped to me were too short.

  • Dont listen to these guys By CabooseTurner on 1/7/2012

Ok..."magic" You cut it...like...with a saw to make it the size of your tank you muffin

and "London" dont rate a product 1 star because you are unable to use a spline roller....this product works fine, if you have basic motor skills
  • Not useful at all By magic on 10/3/2011

I purchased this system for a 36" tank and then found out that you have to make 2 - 24" frames to cover the tank with 12" of overhang on the side.
  • didnt work for me By london on 8/2/2011

i liked the thought of getting more light into my tank i got this whole kit but when i tryed to get the netting to stay in with the spline it just didnt work for me....
