  • No accessories to purchase for wave making or multi-pump use.
  • Brushless motor design reduces electricity consumption.
  • External motor mounting results in less heat transfer to your tank.
  • Adjustable flow rates to best meet the needs of your tank.

Operational Modes

  • Constant Speed Mode – Set your pump to run continuously at a constant speed.
  • EcoSmart Nutrient Transport Mode (NTM) - A two phase program to promote maximum health and nutrient export, as well as increased growth for corals. Alternates between a resonant standing wave and a surge effect to stir up and export nutrients. EcoSmart Tidal Swell Mode (TSM) - Creates a harmonic balance in your aquarium reminiscent of the changing flow conditions that would be found in nature. Flow varies from left to right, right to left, calm, and ends with a great surge.
  • Reef Crest Random Mode - Reef Crest Random Mode simulates the high-energy conditions of a natural reef crest environment. Lagoonal Random Mode - Simulates the gentler reef zone found in a natural lagoon.
  • Short Pulse Mode - Allows for wave pulse timings between 0.3 and two seconds, enabling the creation of FAST alternating flow throughout the tank. Use this mode to create a resonant standing wave.
  • Long Pulse Mode - Allows for wave pulse timings of between 2 seconds and 60 seconds, enabling the creation of slow alternating flow throughout the tank.
  • Feed Mode - Slows down pump to allow user to feed aquarium. User can select the duration and speed for Feed Mode.
  • Night Mode - Automatically reduce speed and operates continuously at that speed for a period of time during the night. User can select the duration and speed for Night Mode.
  • Battery Backup Mode - When used with our battery backup accessory, the VorTech pump will switch to Battery Backup Mode in the event of a power outage and will operate at a user set speed. The LED’s on your EcoSmart driver will count down to indicate how much power is available within the battery.
  • Auto-Dim - LED’s are turned off and display knob dimmed significantly, but pump functions in its current mode. User can program how long after use before the driver enters Auto-Dim.
  • On/Off Switch - Tap the on/off switch to turn off and turn on a pump. Hold this button to turn off all pumps in a master/slave group. Tap any pump in the groups’ on/off switch and that pump will turn back on.

  • Excellent Design and Workmanship By TAG on 1/23/2015

The wireless feature is a big help and you can also dim the LEDs on the display.
Verdict is not in on nutrient transport, health of tank, etc. but this MP40 on my 75G is certainly keeping the sand bed and some softies with less algal growth.
  • This pump rocks! By Chris on 1/12/2015

It will send a wave across a 6 foot tank, it's a challenge to program, the service is near perfect, all in all best pump hands down. That said, if you have anything dumb enough to swim into this, your going to loose him.....

The foam covers are cheap/worthless and until Vortech comes out with something better watch out for your inverts!
  • Pricey but Fantastic By Shane on 1/12/2015

The MP40 is a fantastic pump - but pricey. Like most folks, I have a pair of them so they can work off of each other. Very solid build - highly recommend a single or a set of these to folks that have descent sized tanks and like a lot of flow. Be careful with your sand size.
  • Vortech MP40w ES By gary on 1/12/2015

This is a very nice pump that has many features and boy does it move some water !!!! I would highly recommend this unit, your corals and fish will love you for it !
  • Best money spent By David on 1/12/2015

I bought two of these and man they are awesome. They move water like nothing else. After you buy them, you won't think twice about the price.
  • Well worth the money!!! By Michael on 1/12/2015

I put off going to these for a long time because of the cost. If I would have bought these to start I would have actually spent less. the wave function is incredible. 2 will make a 1" standing wave in a 6' tank. 1 will handle anything 4' and if your tank is under 4 feet look at mp10's. the flow rate is misleading because it is such a huge push of a wall of water instead if a stream. my frogspawn just sort of wave back and forth in the flow with the pumps set at a little more than half.
  • Excellent Wave Maker By Siloex on 1/12/2015

I think this is the Ferrari of all wave makers. Unbelievable movement and a whole slew of options at your disposal. The thing even has a calm mode to simulate night conditions. This is a little on the expensive side but you definitely get what you pay for with this product.
  • LOVE IT By TUBA on 1/12/2015

SHOULD'VE BOUGHT THIS A LONG TIME AGO, NOW I HAVE 4 AQUA CLEAR POWERHEADS LAYING AROUND COLLECTING DUST. THIS THING REALLY DOES A GREAT JOB MOVING WATER THROUGHOUT THE TANK.
  • The only power head I will EVER buy By Heinz on 1/12/2015

There are times to try and save money and buy a cheaper alternative but this IS NOT one of them. These pumps are well thought out designed extremely well and have an awesome set of built in programs. It is unobtrusive taking up very little space on the side of the tank; I like to look at my reef not my pumps stretching out into the middle of my tank. They are quiet I have a 75 gallon tank in the bed room and the last thing you need at night is a noisy pump cycling. Save up if you need to but DO NOT buy anything else. For a 75 gallon tank you will need a MP40W ES and a MP10W ES.
  • Incredible pump By Tom on 1/12/2015

I debated buying this for weeks because of the cost. I can honestly say I was so impressed with the 1st one I purchased a 2nd. The really bring the tank to life. NTM keeps the water, rocks, and sand bed clean. Customer service is top notch. I can create up to a 2.5" wave in my 90. Configuration was easy, Only wish that it would integrate with my RKE. Yes they are expensive, but well worth it =).
  • The Best By Todd on 1/12/2015

I started out with an MP 20 but as soon as the ecosmart Driver came out I upgraded the driver and power supply and now have an MP40 W es . I cant say enough about what this thing has done for my SPS Reef.
My Millepora looks like Cousin It and all my others look fantastic and growing like weeds.
Not to mention the battery backup giving me the security to leave my house for a few days for a trip.
  • None Better By Corey on 1/12/2015

Solid pumps inside and out. Wave drivers are very easy to setup and configure. These pumps have a lot of power, I have to turn them down on my 150 tall to keep the sand on the bottom in place. I love these pumps. They don't come cheap, but quality rarely does.
