Compared to Eheim powerCleaner Glass Cleaner, is better or worse? Thanks.
Question by: Jerry on May 4, 2014 11:11:00 PM
Hi Jerry,
For most applications I prefer the magnetic cleaner. Its always in the tank and super easy to just run across the tank a few times every day. The power cleaner I find handy for more "stuck on" stuff but its not as convenient on a day to day basis. Honestly I usually need to bust out the powercleaner if I have been gone for a few days and not used the algae free magnet cleaner.

Will the piranha clean coralline algae from the glass or will I need a cleaner with a scrapper blade like the flipper? Do you recommend of those above the other?
Thanks
Question by: Robert on Sep 3, 2014 2:42:00 PM
Hi Robert,

The Algae Free glass cleaners are a great product but they will not be able to remove coralline algae from your glass on their own. I would recommend attaching the scraper to it which will allow you to remove more stubborn green algae as well as coralline. I use this at home and love it!

The flipper is another great option but unfortunately it is currently out of stock.

I hope this helps!
Have a great day :)

Full Details

The Great White (Non-floating) is Algae Free’s most powerful magnetic cleaner. It has the same cleaning area as the Tiger Shark Float but is much stronger. Ideal for:

  • Glass and acrylic aquariums 3/4" and 1" thick
  • Glass aquariums holding 300 to 600 gallons
  • Acrylic aquariums up to 96" long and 36" high
  • Large 4" x 2" cleaning area

The Hammerhead Float makes cleaning algae off medium-sized tanks a breeze. Its inner assembly will float to the surface if disengaged for easy retrieval. Ideal for:

  • Glass and acrylic aquariums 1/2" and 5/8" thick
  • Glass aquariums holding up to 110 to 200 gallons
  • Acrylic aquariums 48" long and 30" high
  • Large 4" x 2" cleaning area

The Piranha Float will easily remove algae off smaller tanks. Its inner assembly will float to the surface if disengaged for easy retrieval. Ideal for:

  • Glass and acrylic aquariums 1/4" and 3/8" thick
  • Glass aquariums holding up to 30 to 125 gallons
  • Acrylic aquariums 36" long and 20" high
  • Large 4" x 2" cleaning area

The Tiger Shark Float is the largest floating magnet available and zips through the algae of larger tanks. Its inner assembly will float to the surface if disengaged for easy retrieval. Ideal for:

  • Glass and acrylic aquariums 5/8" and 3/4" thick
  • Glass aquariums holding 200 to 350 gallons
  • Acrylic aquariums 72" long and 36" high, 96" long and 30" high, or 120" long and 24" high
  • Large 4" x 2" cleaning area

  • Too strong By Stan on 5/16/2015

Got a hammerhead for my 90g tank with 1/2 inch glass- way too strong, grips too hard so it stutters when it moves along the glass.
  • Works Great By Chris on 5/15/2015

This is a great product. The magnet is very strong as advertised. It helps reduce the amount of time for cleaning the tank and I only have to clean the tight spaces by hand
  • Strong Magnets / Cleans Great By RDM on 5/5/2015

I have a Piranha and a Hammerhead float. Both clean the glass without scratching and work very well. The only reason for not giving a five start rating is they are a little hard to grip. If outside block was a little thicker it would be helpful.
  • does not work By flyers106 on 4/5/2015

tried the algae free magnetic glass cleaner and it did not work for me at any point tried for a couple hours on and off . no algae came off, I do not recommend this product
  • Algae Free The Great White By LittleOb on 3/11/2015

I highly recommend this product. Wish I would have bought this when I first purchased my acrylic aquarium. The wall thickness is 3/4" and works great. I thought it would scratch the acrylic due to its strength but it hasn't. It’s a huge time saver.
  • Great Product By Declan on 2/7/2015

I've owned other magnets, this is by far the best. Worth every penny.
  • It works By Fishntyme on 1/22/2015

These magnets are better than others I could find at my LFS. Quick easy cleaning.
  • Solid piece of equipment By Christopher on 12/24/2014

This is one strong magnet. It does a great job cleaning the glass. The only drawback I have found is that it is hard to grip.
  • Strong bond. Larger than expected. By Jasper on 10/22/2014

I purchased the smallest size, and it's quite a bit larger than I expected. Expect to have trouble getting into tight spots, but very rapidly clean open areas.

The magnet bonds stronger than all other scrubbers I have used. I don't feel like I'll loose the inside piece if I move too quickly. It's secure and scrubs well.
  • Even works on Coraline By Johnny Sea on 9/23/2014

Purchased the Piranha and it is strong enough to even work through built up Coraline. Like others have said be careful with these they will snap together and catch your finger! If you let these get together without something in between be ready for a workout.
  • much better than a mag float By mark on 8/27/2014

upgraded to a 1/2" thick acrylic tank, and the largest mag float I could buy locally just wouldn't stay connected, this is powerful and the pad they sent really scrubs well without scratching
  • love it! By Jennifer on 6/3/2014

I love this cleaner. the magnet is super strong, cleans really well and it has a much better look to it then a chunk of plastic for a magnetic cleaner. It would be kinda cool if they had different wood colors so you could match it to your stand. but it is a much more polished look than the others out there.
