Product Description
Gate Valves are used when precise adjustment to flow is required
Gluing Instructions
- Cut the pipe to length
- Use a piece of piece of sand paper to smooth the ruff edge of the pipe. Wrap the sand paper around the pipe and just give it a couple of twists.
- Apply the primer inside the fitting and outside of the pipe. This will soften and clean the plastic.
- Apply the glue to inside the fitting and outside of the pipe. Insert the pipe all the way into the fitting and give a ¼ turn to spread the glue. Hold the pipe in for 30 seconds. The glue will cause the pipe to expand and push slightly out of the fitting if you don’t hold it in tight.
Few plumbing tips:
- Rule of thumb is every plumbing project takes three trips to the store. This can be frustrating if you are shopping locally but much worse if you are ordering on the net and need to wait for the items to be shipped. Plan the project out well on paper so you know for sure what you need. Note that we are happy to take returns on anything you don’t use as long as it is completely unused and it is within a month of purchasing it. Spending a few bucks on return shipping is much less frustrating than being three pieces short of completing your project and having to wait a week for them to arrive.
- Always use both primer and glue. You can often skip the primer step and get lucky but once you experience the pain of scrapping an entire plumbing project because of leaks you will never skip it again.
- Don’t skip the sand paper step. Again you can often get lucky without it but it is cheap and easy so why tempt fate?
- Unions, Unions, Unions … Anyone who has ever plumbed a tank knows that there should be a union anywhere there can be one, this is an area where many of us skimp but end up regretting it. The most common place to use a union is before and after pumps as well as where the plumbing attaches to the tank/sump. Another popular place to put them as anywhere you have a 90 degree elbow. Once you add glue and insert the fitting you have around 5 seconds to find the perfect angle , if you don’t get it just right you have to cut the pipe off and start over. If you use a union you can swivel it around 360 which removes the need for such perfection.
- Don’t be in a hurry; give the glue several hours to cure before filling with water. Number one key to success in this hobby is patience, now is a good time to start that lesson.
- When possible use street elbows over normal elbows. They save on space and time cutting connecting pieces of pipe.
