Very high quality construction, and extremely easy to use! plus free calibration solution!!! i love that it only requires two drops of tank water unlike a hydrometer which requires a few ounces of water!

I purchased this as I am just new into saltwater. My friend always used a hydrometer and I decided I wanted to try this refractometer out. I was thinking that this would just be some piece of plastic that would get the job done. Boy was I wrong this thing is heavy made from metal and looks like it will last a life time. Awesome product.

When I first opened the box I thought this was a cheap product but after using it and comparing with others it is accurate and good quality. Great price especially since it comes with the calibration fluid, pipette, and cleaning cloth. I am happy I bought it.

As a beginner, I was uncertain and insecure about setting up my system. Buying this was one of the best decisions I made. Accurate salinity measurements are essential and the refractometer made obtaining them easy. Just be sure to calibrate with the enclosed solution, not with RO/DI water.

It was very difficult to see the reading when I first peered into it. Seems my eyes are worse than I thought because after some extreme focusing, I was able to see the indicator line. My only complaint with this item is that it requires a fair amount of light to see the reading well. It was perfectly calibrated out of the box.

Graduated from a finicky swing arm type hydrometer and glad I did. It wasn't really 100% consistent and if I didn't clean it out thoroughly after every use, it would show wildly different readings when I knew it shouldn't. This BRS refractometer has none of those issues. It gives fast, consistent results every time. The included calibration solution guarantees accuracy as well. I personally calibrate mine every few days, depending on the number of readings I take.
It's easy to use, the results are clear and not difficult to read, and the adjustable eye piece really helps for people like me with less than perfect vision :)
As usual, BRS's attention to detail shines. The meter comes in a hard storage case, with a foam insert for protecting the instrument. Included is a dropper for sampling the water and a soft cloth for cleaning the lens. This is the kind of tool you'd find in a science lab, but not too complex that you think you need a pHD in biochemistry to use it.
Once again, BRS comes through. I don't know where I'd be without this site.

I purchased this on the recommendation of several forum members. Being new to the saltwater side of aquarium keeping, I was concerned that it might be a little difficult to use. Opened it up, calibrated it, double checked it against a friends and got the same results. Overall, very very simple to use, calibrate, and learn.
