I had purchased a refractometer form another online retailer and when it arrived I was displeased to see it hadn't come with calibration fluid, or a nice microfiber towel. The BRS Refractometer is amazing, and should be in the top 3 things to purchase when setting up a reef tank.

When you need to know salinity levels, a refractometer is the only way to go. This product does everything is it supposed to and it is easy to use, calibrate, and is very cost effective.

Every marine aquarist should have a quality refractometer and this one definitely fits the bill and the has a great price point. Having a refractometer also gives some peace of mind while doing quick salinity checks versus using a hydrometer that can be very inaccurate.

Just getting back into Saltwater after away 15 years. First item I have ordered from BRS or any online store. Saw it was offered at a great price and knew I needed to order it. Order was placed online on Friday 12/23/12. Receive it Monday 123/26/12. Better than expected. Refactometer is well built, nice weight and was easy to focus. Even got Calibration Solution with it. This item I would recommend to anyone wanting a quality product.

It's my 1st refractometer it seems great and accurate. I have 20/20 vision and the only complain I have is I wish it came with bigger number chart , maybe a better zooming, or a scale running SG 1.015 - 1.035 or 1.040 , but still a great product.

I am very happy with this and it has held up well for 6 months so far. I have learned that not only is it important to wipe off with fresh water, you also need to wash the rag out with fresh water from time to time, as it will absorb salt and start to affect the ability to clean.

This meter works great. A great value for your dollar and works excellent when properly calibrated. Easy to use, and love the fact that it come with calibration fluid. I would recommend this to anyone. My LFS had one they tried to sell me the exact same model at 64 dollars with no fluid, I said no way and told them they need to start doing their internet research, on pricing. I don't mind supporting them but when for what they wanted to charge me I could have bought to of these.

I've been using the Instant Ocean swing arm hydrometer for my entire reefing career.

I always ran my main tank at 1.025-1.026 on the IO hydrometer. I read how inaccurate swing arm hydrometers can be, so I got a little worried and ordered this refractometer.

Well I finally received the refractometer and after calibrating it with the solution it came with, my main tank is reading a wonderful 1.026. Maybe my swing arm hydrometer is one of a kind.

But this refractometer does make me feel better in confirming the salinity of my tanks.

This product works as stated and is more reliable than a float type meter, but the float meter is so much faster and easier to use. I use the refractometer periodically to check my float meter. The line is also a little blurry, even after adjusting the focus. I don't know if they are all like this. Maybe a more expensive one would have a cleaner line to read.

I was surprised by the weight, it is very well built and easy to use. Make sure it is calibrated with the included fluid and you are set. A must have because of doing frequent water changes, I use it all the time. I am glad I bought this from the start, saved myself money in the end.

I was previously using a Hydrometer and thought I was getting accurate readings, boy was I wrong. My hydrometer was reading 1.025 and after calibrating the refractometer, it was showing 1.028. In an attempt to determine which one was correct, I used the bottle of calibration fluid to fill my hydrometer.

It turns out the refractometer was correct and the hydrometer was reading low.

I would recommend this to anyone that wants an accurate salinity reading. Just make sure you let it sit for about 30 seconds for the temperature to adjust.
