Just picked this up and it's great. Easy to use and calibrate. Replaced my old Hydrometer and showed i was at 1.024 not the 1.023 my hydrometer was saying. Sometimes the hydrometer took 3 readings to get a good reading. This gave me the same reading each time. That may not sound like much but can make a difference in the long run. Plus free calibrating fluid!

Puechased one of these refractometers after learning about how innacurate swing arm hydrometers can be. Easy to use and the included calibration fluid lets you know you are getting accurate readings. I would recommend recalibrating the unit frequently to ensure accurate results.

I' d been testing salinity with a hydrometer for 3 years only to fine out what I thought was 1.025 was really1.028 after testing with the refactometer.

No problems whatsoever with this refractometer. It is very accurate and doesn't slip much. I periodically check it with the calibration fluid and it is rarely off at all.

My swingarm showd consistant values of 34ppt which is where I want. However, the refractometer showed that it was actually 37ppt which is way over what my reef tank wanted. Why do we invest so much money in these tanks and cheap out on the most important devices needed? I know I never will again. Thanks BRS for providing an affordable and accurate refractometer. Even better it included calibration fluid that was $9 extra everywhere else I was looking.

Don't trust your expensive reef tank with a 7 dollar swing arm. Get the easy basics right and don't cut corners when it can cost you a lot more in the long run.

This has been a great product. I used to use a swing arm hydrometer and it was showing 1.024 s/g with the refractometer I was showing 1.030, my swing arm was that off. I have now have my s/g at 1.024 thanks to the refractometer and all my corals are doing AWESOME! I would recommend this to everyone and at $40 how can you go wrong.

After years of using a floating hydrometer I finally got off my butt and purchased a refractometer. Why did I ever wait so long? This is so much easier to use, and I feel it is a lot more accurate also. With the free calibration fluid you simply put a couple drops of the viewing plate, hold it to the light and look through the eyepiece. If it doesn't read 1.026, use the supplied screwdrive to adjust until it does read 1.026. That's it.

I have been a marine aquarist for over five years now. Admittedly, for the last year or so, I have been neglecting my tank - big time. I was wondering why my snails died off and my anemone met a slow death (not an easy animal to keep anyway). So I heard about Bulk Reef Supply by reading posts at reefcentral and the like. I decided to purchase a refractometer because I didn't feel my cheaply made Instant Ocean hydrometer wasn't cutting it. I WAS RIGHT. I am too embarrassed to list my specific gravity / salinity...but I will tell you I WAS WAY OFF. I could have purchased the refractometer from marineYOUKNOWWHAT but I wanted to give my money to a much smaller place of business. I am glad I did. My purchase was smooth, and my refractometer arrived quickly in a well packaged box with the free calibrating solution. I will buy from here again, without a doubt. The refractometer is well built and the scale is easy to read. I will NEVER go back to those cheaply made plastic hydrometers again. Thank You!

This is an absolute must have for any saltwater tank. This is a great unit that comes with everything you need to use it, unlike some other sites that charge extra for the calibration solution, bulk reef supply throws it in at no extra charge. Unit is exactly like the one pictured other than slight color variations. Very easy to use, very easy to read.

This is simply a must have. The unit was calibrated spot on after checking it with the solution that was provided. I found out that the SG of my water was off by .006. After I learned of that, the first thing I did was throw the hydrometer in the trash! Thanks BRS!!
