For me the little scale inside is hard to read. I can get within a line or two but the lines are so close together that I can't estimate whether it's "1/2" or "3/4" - you know, like you can estimate the space between mm or 1/8th markings on a good thin ruler. Anyways that's why the 3 stars for performance - it's not very easy to read.

If the lines could be made further apart by choice of optics or any other method so it could be read more easily that would be a great improvement.

While not very precise, for me anyway, it does seem to be accurate. The calibration process is pretty easy and it even happens to agree pretty closely with a hydrometer I have - though that says more about the hydrometer than this refractometer..

As everyone else mentioned, it's a perfect buy for the money and it's definitely something needed for any aquarium keeper.

Came with absolute easy instructions on how to calibrate which helps out those in my family that aren't as into the hobby as I am.

Does exactly what its supposed to. Very well built and cheap refractometer. Being able to test your salinity is obviously a must in this hobby, the plastic needle ones vary so much and just arnt reliable. The main reason I bought it was for the free calibration fluid because using ro or distilled water is not reliable

Awsome pice. It reads perfectly when you test over and over. Unlike the hydro meter you would test over and over and it would give you different readings. Recommend getting one of these.

Have been reefing for about a year now, and from the beginning have been using a swing arm hydrometer. I never knew if the thing was accurate or not. You could tap the side and the arm would show a large difference in reading. Not accurate in any way.

When you take this hobby as serious as most of us do, the sky is the limit as far as what you can spend on extras for your setup. Refraction ethers range in price and quality, from low cost solutions, to high cost fit and finish.

So when I saw this product I obviously scoffed at the low price. "Something this cheap can't work that well." however after reading the reviews I ordered it as I thought if it was bad I could send it back. I have to say, this is one of the best purchases I have made, and also my first on BRS!

This thing is pure quality. From case, and all extras that come with the unit, you can tell a lot of pride went into the build o this product. The unit feels heavy, sturdy, and well made. I have read a few reviews about needing a bright light to read the display...it's a prism...you need light to see:) any light you have in the room should be usable to read the results of the unit.

Don't spend more, get this unit. I'm confident you will live it as much as I do. Good job BRS, you have earned another loyal customer.

This is by far one of the best investments you can ever make for you tank. The time and hassle this will save you are well worth the cost alone, not to mention this this is dead accurate time after time, after time. this product will give you a true and stable salinity. if you are having problems with your tank salinity is the base of everything. with this you will know without doubt if your salinity is or is not where is should be.

This product has made my life so much easier when testing my water. The only problem is is that it is a little hard to read. I wish there was an even easier way to test water. Still a good product though.
