I never wanted to buy one of these, but my hydrometer gave up the ghost and started to give me faulty readings. This hydrometer is spot on and is easy to read. the instructions that came with it had some mispelled words, but besides that, it's good!

This refractometer is great. It just needs a really bright light to get a clear reading. The hinge hasn't rusted yet (as it did with a former unit). Appreciated the inclusion of calibration fluid. Solid piece of equipment no reefer can afford to be without.

I love this refractometer.

Pros:
- comes pre-calibrated
- easy to clean, just wipe off after use
- includes a cleaning cloth
- can be pointed at any bright light (works great with lamps in the evening)

Cons:
- Instructions are a little vague

Tips:
- Don't calibrate to 0
- Turning the eye piece focuses the line for easier reading

I have been using a swing arm hydrometer for about two years. I would check it with my LFS refractometer and it always stayed .001 off. Would wash it out with warm water after every use. But this refractometer i purchased is so easy and spot on I really could of kicked myself if something went wrong because of ole' swing arm malfunctioning. At times I wondered because the arm would get stuckor bubbles in the mechanism. Now there is no question and know that this lil tool is just insurance to help protect the investment of my beloved reef. Thank you BRS for making this product affordable.

I have been Reefing for over 15 years and have been using the old fashion hydrometers. After using a Refractometer I would never go back. Readings are so fast and there is no need to shut off mixing pumps to get a good reading. .

Bought this after getting conflicting numbers from my IO hydrometer. This is easy to use and calibrate. I use it often as I'm starting a tank and have yet to even calibrate it. Takes a few seconds to measure and then a quick rinse w/ RODI and I'm done!

Very easy to use and calibrate and accurate results. Used to use a swing arm hydrometer but after I started investing in corals I wanted something I could trust a little more and for the price the BRS refractometer can not be beat! I have had it now for at least 8 months with no issues. The most it was ever off was .001 which was fixed with recalibrating with the including recalibration fluid

This is a great tool for the home aquarium. Was using a small needle type meter and found it was a solid 3 to 4 points off. Tested my tank with this little beauty and I was right at 1.026. Glad I didn't add more salt. This tool os so easy to use my wife is willing to check the salinity as it only takes a second.
