great pump By justin on 3/26/13
justin would recommend this product to a friend
Quit your winning if you can't handle the 3 seconds of noise on start up then why are you spending $30 on a pump.this thing moves massive amount of water in the circulation mode.these pumps are meant to be ran wide open not restricted.I have mine running in powerhead mode with a hydro flo water deflector and have never seen so much water movement. I spent $40 on a system that moves as much water as mu buddies $500 system.

The maxi jet 1200 is good and versatile little pump. I use mine as a circulating pump to mix saltwater and to refill my tank during water changes. Hard to beat for the price. I use the 600 model to circualte my ro water as well.

I connected this pump and ran it for about an hour to run my dual BRS GFO/GAC reactor, and there is no way I will continue to use this pump. You could hear it from every corner in the house.

Effective little pump By Joseph on 1/7/13
Joseph would recommend this product to a friend
Purchased for use with my BRS reactor. Solid little pump that survived getting pumped around in my sump w/o complaint.
Perfect flow rate for the BRS GFO/CARBON single reactor.
(never noticed any noise, but it was sitting in a sump contained in a thick wooden base)

Nice pump for a reactor By shaungee on 12/28/12
shaungee would recommend this product to a friend
I picked up this pump to power my BRS biopellet reactor and it definitely has more than enough power to do it. The only issue is when I had to throttle down the pump to get the right tumble in the reactor, it hums noticeably, not too loud, but you can definitely hear it. I got the prefilter kit to keep debris out, and altogether had about 35 bucks in the setup, so taking into account the light hit to the wallet, the humming isn't that bothersome!

Very quiet By Mike on 12/20/12
Mike would recommend this product to a friend
These seem to be the Italian made version which run much quieter. BRS could send the cheaper versions and have met their description, but sending me these reminds me what a quality company BRS is. Thank you for spending a few extra bucks to get the higher quality powerhead. You clearly are looking out for us reefers. I run them on on all 3 of my BRS reactors with zero issues and silence.

power not worth the noise By BB on 12/17/12
BB wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
This product does push plenty of water through my brs carbon reactor, but unfortunately I have to say that it's short life in my sump is about to come to an end because not even my mag drive 18 comes close to the amount of noise and vibration coming from this pump. I definitely would buy something of a better quality, which is unfortunate with a brand as well known as marineland.

little jet big power! By Dallas on 11/3/12
Dallas would recommend this product to a friend
Bought two of these for my 70 gal reef tank these thing push crazy amounts of water works well in my tank only down side is takes a couple seconds to start while making a loud grinding noise but ones running nice and quite. Suction cups could be better wish they had magnets instead be sure to check often cuz they will lose there suction and fall making a blizzard for your tank. Other then that awesome powerhead for the money

Great pump if you're not using a controller By jeremy on 8/27/12
jeremy would recommend this product to a friend
Circulation pump - pros- this thing creates a ton of flow, I was really impressed with the current this pump makes.
Cons- if you are using his pump with a controller it can be quite noisy when starting or if the power goes out when it comes back on its noisy.
Power head - pros- as a power head this pump performs as expected, my pump pulls double duty mixing small batches of saltwater and as a circulation pump with no problems.
Cons-none so far
Utility pump- haven't used this as a utility/ return pump yet. I can imagine it would work ok in an application with minimal head height where not a lot of flow is needed. Maybe in an ATO setup...

Purchased a Maxi Jet 1200 to run my dual BRS reactor. It works well with the reactors. It seems to be very reliable and is priced just right. It can be a bit noisy, but mine is in my sump area so the noise is not an issue....

I got this for the Dual BRS GFO and Carbon Reactor.
This pump is the loudest thing in my 90gal system. I would not recommend it. It noise and vibration from this pump is so noise that I have a hard time telling if anything else is on. I can hear it over the TV.
I would not recommend it for anyone.

I own three of these pumps and use them for my tank maintenance to transfer water between containers and ultimately to fill my aquarium. I have not had a problem with them with noise or failure. I've had mine for 4 months. I also like the extras you get for using them as water pump, aerator or circulator.

If you are a serious about the hobby you should have 3-4 of these pumps on hand. They can be used for almost anything. I use two for water movement on a frag tank. One for water top off. One for mixing salt. One for water changes. I love these and they last forever. No other company can touch the versatility and price.

Make water changes easy By Thomas on 3/13/12
Thomas would recommend this product to a friend
I bought this pump for water changes. I use the impeller to pump water out of my sump so that I do not need to change water out of my display tank. I real nice surprise was that changing to the impeller to propeller is trivial so it can preform a double duty of mixing water as well. Value wise impossible to beat.

The manufacturer is replacing my pumps, but I still do not recommend using them with the brs gfo if you are concerned with noise issue. You should be able to come off your main pump and adapt it to accept your gfo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_-xch8SC_M

Michael wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
I have two 1200s in my new 75 gal. tank. I was pleasantly surprised by how much flow they provide. Getting a nice wave-like effect at top of tank. BUT, they really rattle when they restart, which does not bode well. They require a sure-grip magnetic attachment (sold separately) to mount them. (Even with silicone, I would not trust suction cup mount). And after two weeks the ball pivot used to direct flow is slipping.

Quite with the Hi Flow fan style kit. Loud when used in pump mode with the slightest restriction in the line at all. Cobalt Aquatics is the same think except is quiter by far. I recomend that if you want to use it to power a reactor, Filter, or Skimmer.

Garbage! By Fish Girl on 9/25/11
Fish Girl wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
Absurdly noisy and incapable of moving water through a mere 2' of tubing at a rate adequate to even make Bio-Pellets tremble, much less tumble. Build a manifold off your main pump for about what this piece of junk costs and save yourself the aggravation.

These maxijets are perfect for use with GFO in a reactor. I turn the valve off a little bit to restrict some of the flow, but can open the valve all the way for a few secs to stir it up if needed. I also use one to blast the live rock occasionally.

Not for use with BRS GFO Reactor By Grey on 8/24/11
Grey wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
Okay so I bought a BRS GFO reactor. Set everything up and hooked up the BRS "recommended" Maxi-Jet 1200 to power the water. Upon first power up the MJ 1200 started clicking and buzzing VERY loud. I thought no biggie, it's probably just air flushing out.. So I turn up the ball valve (100%) to the reactor to flush all the fines and the noise stopped... but as soon as I turned the flow back down to get the GFO tumbling correctly it starts right back up again. I finally figured out that the pump itself it not designed to run at such a restricted rate. The slow flow rate that a GFO reactor requires is much to low for the impeller to self balance. Since the impeller can't balance it wobbles and hits the volute causing a nerve racking irritating sound.. much like an alarm clock. I do NOT recommend this pump for the BRS GFO reactor or any other for that matter.

Maxijet Powerhead 1200 Rocks By Sunny on 8/16/11
Sunny would recommend this product to a friend
I am in the process of slowly converting my FOWLR set up to a reef. I purchased the Maxijet 1200 to use as a powerhead for the my 65 gallon tall aquarium. The pump itself came nicely packaged with alot of attachments to use in different configurations, pump looks really well built, the powerhead attachment fits perfectly. There is a slight noise initially on start up but only lasts a second, then it's very quiet. This pump moves alot of water. It would have been awesome if it came with magnetic mount as opposed to suction cups. I still give this item a 5 star rating since it is very good value for money.
