This product is really cool, if you like gadgets and fish tanks, you will want to get this. The only draw back i found when hooking this up, which is mentioned in other reviews, is the piss poor set up guide and having to use the forums on the digital aquatics site to get answers. If you have weak google-foo you will hate this product, but if you can get through the set up you will love it.
Gets the job done! By Chad on 7/22/2013

I purchased the apex lite controller to replace my reefkeeper lite plus after owning the reefkeeper for only 8 months, and I am happy to report that I am very pleased with my decision to upgrade. This apex lite is quite a bit more expensive than the reefkeeper lite plus, but is comparably priced with the reefkeeper lite w net module.
Pros: PRICE! You are getting a lot for your money with the reefkeeper lite plus. pH probe is included! The SL 1 is capable of monitoring both pH and ORP. Gets the job done! I was able to successfully control everything the way I wanted to with the reefkeeper.
Cons: The reefkeeper lite can only interface with a total of 4 modules, that means you can only add one module to the reefkeeper lite plus package, whether it be an additional energy bar, a salinity module, lunar lighting module, whatever. Speeking of modules, the internet module is not included in this package and must be purchased separately. The reefkeeper is only Windows compatible. It is not compatible with Mac OS. The controller is somewhat cumbersome to operate/program with the 5 button interface. I highly reccomend plugging it in to your Windows machine using the included interface in order to program/change settings.
What I reccomend: If you are on a budget, the reefkeeper lite plus SHOULD be able to get the job done and I would prefer this unit over the apex jr. Otherwise, if network access is a must, or if you are debating between the apex and the reefkeeper elite, I think the apex is the way to go.

I have several of these units controlling tanks ranging in size from 75 gallons through 300 gallons. I have been very happy with its performance. Controls lights, dosing, heater and back up safety on chiller. In my opinion, no need to buy more expensive units.
Good and easy to use controller By Clint on 6/24/2013

I've had the RKL plus controller for about a year now. So far I've been very happy with it. In my opinion its a great introductory into controllers. I didn't want an overly confusing system and after much research, the RKL won me over due to its ease of programming. Currently I use mine to monitor pH and temp as well as run my equipment. The ability to set up your heater as a controller is fantastic. No more worries of a heater failure frying your livestock!!!!!
nice controller and good cost By Paul on 5/31/2013

Easy to program and set up. This is my first experience using a controller and found this to be simple and just right for my needs at this time. I would have given it 5 stars but DA does not have their myReef 2.0 program for Mac yet. Would have been even easier to set up if I could have programed using their software vs the interface and remember what each piece of equipment was connected to.
A Lot More Than An Expensive Timer By AC on 5/15/2013

I have this unite set up to control just about every function on my tank.
1: Controls my Lights
2: Controls my Chiller.
3: Controls my Heater.
4: Controls my 2 part Dosing Pumps.
5: Controls my ATO using the float sensor.
6: Controls a fan to help with temp.
7: Turns off my light if the tank gets to hot and the chiller can’t cool it down.
8: Turns off all my equipment when doing a water change ( Nice not having to unplug stuff )
It was a pain to set up because I had to do a firmware upgrade to get it to work but I was able to use my laptop to set everything up. The instructions on how to do the upgrade are not very good.

I have a reef keeper lite. Have to say I am not happy with it. I is a pain in the ass to connect to a computer there customer service sucks. the system works fine with the tank front controler but i really wanted to use it with a laptop that I bought just for the fishtank room. In this day things should just be plug and play and the reef keeper makes you have to update the modules before use in a special order jump through some hoops of fire and sit on top of your protein skimmer with your left foot in a tub of rodi water while holding a steel rod during a thunder storm, which for some reason i was not able to do. i just gave up on it and use it from the main display. it also uses phone type wires vs usb wires, i would not buy there syestem again or tell any one else to..... pick another brand

Okay if you don't want to expand your system By Brandon on 4/5/2013

This controller did what I needed it to but left me with no room to expand. I was never able to get the Thermometer to read the proper temperature and had offset the controller to compensate for the difference. It's made of plastic and feels kind of cheap, I recently just switched over to the Apex Controller and so far I like it far better than Digital Aquatics.

Ok so at first I thought the RKL was a frivolous gadget for my aquarium… After upgrading my tank I can’t see not using a controller. This unit was a great value AND they have excellent support! I just wish the internet connection was standard. I don't really want to give up my last module just to gain internet access. I plan on adding a bunch of switches and spill sensors on my last module.

I think knowing what I know now I would most likely go with the Apex. Less hassle and no expansion limits. 1st of all when item was received the directions were pi@@ poor. No mention of the Myreef software at all. Only shows how it connects up. Figuring out programming is all up to you. Google and more Google. Finally found software download link on the DA forum. Then how it connects to the software?? You guessed it..on your own again. Not to
Mention I received it on Friday but can't use it because it was missing a bus cable. Contacted BRS an they said they would send DA an email. I guess I could have done that. Ordered an extra PC4 that should be here today and was told by BRS it wouldn't most likely have a BUS cable with it either! You kidding me?? I have had alot of time to figure out programming though since I can't actually use my $300 paper weight.
