Leaky shoddy design By Bob on 5/30/2015

Could not get the inlet connection assembled without leaks. Inserted the supplied soft vinyl tubing into the MurLok style quick connect. It leaked. Tried 1/4" polyprop tubing. Could not get it fully engaged. Thought the unit was defective. BRS of course promptly replaced it. Replacement had the same problem. The unit uses tubing on the side that is .010" smaller diameter than the standard. Finally got it engaged by putting some silicone o ring grease on the end of the tube. Then both of the quick connects on the side leaked. The pieces had been cut too short, and were not fully engaged.
O-rings on the top and the outlet shipped dry with nothing said about greasing them. The meagre instructions recommend 2 coffee cups of Kalk shaken with water to charge the stirrer. I had to write to the manufacturer to find out that 2 coffee cups is 8 oz. of dry kalk powder. Unless you enjoy this kind of misadventure, I'd sincerely suggest a different unit.
Self inflicted issues By Frank on 1/31/2015

Now that I have had this running for a while I love it. I was really tired of mixing a 5 gallon bucket every week, and all the mess that came with it. I have a 150 with a 25 gallon sump and a 30 gallon frag tank all plumbed together. I do a constant drip with a Drew’s Doser which drips a little over 5 gallons a week. When I set up the stirrer the first issue I ran into was it leaked at the fitting where the inlet fitting goes into the cylinder. The leak was where the push connect tubing goes into the fitting. After messing with it for a while I determined the hose was too short to reach between the fittings and fully engage. After replacing the hose with a slightly longer hose all was well. The second problem was I just could not get any flow through with the Drews doser. I soon discovered that was because on the usual problem. I didn’t follow directions. When I filled the cylinder I just added 2 cups of dry Kalk instead of mixing it with RO and pouring the slurry into the cylinder. Dry Kalk packs in the hollow inlet part of the stirring shaft and a Drews doser just can’t push it through. So follow directions and mix the Kalk into a slurry first then add it to the stirrer.

I had a different kalk reactor and I just fought and fought to get it to work just right. after dealing with it for a year enough was enough. I got this stirrer and hook it up to my ATO and is controlled with my Apex and all i have to do is keep kalk power in it and i'm set no more wondering if its going to crash my tank. It awesome just wish i had this the first time around so i had more time with my tank and not the reactor all the time.

I've had this Kalk reactor running on my tank for more than a year and a half. The only problem with it that I've had was the stirrer cracked where the screw attaches it to the motor at the top. I had to buy a new stirrer. Other than that it's been great.

I have had this product for about 2 years. I love having it and find it a great way to add Kalk to your tank. It works really well although it has jammed up a few times and I had to force the shaft to get it to start turning, also I have had it squeak from time to time for extended periods, not too loud. I am using it with a Tunze Osmolator and it does a great job. you have to be careful though. If you have a small water leak or if you start doing a water change before you unplug the Ozmolator it will put concentrated kalk into you tank really fast. A controller would probably negate that possibility. All and all I would recommend it.
Good product...a little pricey By Bob on 5/14/2012

The product works as described and doses the kalk as needed with the top off system. It seems to be a little expensive for the materials used but it works.

It works well but a little over priced for what it is. I have been running this stirrer for 3 months and it has worked well for dosing Kalk to my 90 gallon aquarium. I plan on buying another soon for my next build.

This a very good kalk stirrer! It works great to keep alk and Ca++ to any marine system.
I use it with a BRS 5ml/min. pump/electronic timer dosing 4 times at night and it does the job greatly. Each time the pump doses for 15 min. The tank is a 75gal with a 20gal. sump. Coralline is all over the tank after only 20 days of added the reactor. No other calcium or alk. supplementation is added since then. Simply set and leave it alone doing it's job. Once an a while I check the pump and watch it work.
The only thing they could use better materials to build it. The idea and the dimensions are really functional, but the materials they built the reactor with are not the top quality. They could do a better job!
The check valve was installed in the opposite position and I'm glad I removed to check that out!!!!! That IS a BIG mistake when assembling the instrument!!! Shame on them! Hope it doesn't happen all the time!! A newbie wouldn't be able to figure out why the reactor wasn't working. Pump was pushing the water in and the reactor couldn't let the water flow to the system because of the check valve!! Crazy mistake!!
I will buy another of this for my future system!!!
I think this is the best for the buck for now in the market. I'm glad I've bought from BulkReefSupply!

i just purchased the 1000 and its been a weeek and all my parameters have been perfect alk, calcium and magnesium, you have to have your parameters up to use a kalk reactor

I used to drip Kalk into my sump but, it was a hassle to mix the kalk, siphon into a drip container then adjust the drip rate every few days. Then I tried dosing Kalk in my ATO container, but that was just a mess and hard on your ATO pump. With the Aquamedic Kalk stirrer ... pretty much set and forget. I use it with my Tunze Osmolator and it works great! This is the easiest way to dose Kalk out there.

Very easy to set up and maintain. For me a prefect way to counter my low PH caused by my Ca reactor.
Works well but matierials are bit cheap By Clown Boy on 11/21/2010

The Good; The product works exactly as advertised. The genital stirring action keeps the top few inches of the water column fairly clear thus the affluent is clear when exiting the reaction chamber. A word of caution, kalk is dripped not drizzled into a tank. If you use anything other than a peristaltic pump (per directions) you run the risk of over dousing.
The Bad: The construction materials are cheap. For $230.00 I expected more than low grade molded plastic. I believe that the width of the base is disproportional to the height / width of the chamber considering that if the reactor falls over you have a serious mess on your hands. The reaction chamber is made of rather thin plastic and on my reactor the joints between the chamber, cap and base are all a bit sloppy. I suppose that for the money I was thinking acrylic and quality craftsmanship. Once I filled the reactor it leaked - everything needed to be tightened up. The back siphon fitting was placed inline backwards and the directions that came in the box were for the 5000 model - really - for $230.00? For a few bucks more a very solid Precision Marine or GEO reactor can be had.
Great stirrer for the money By Ray on 3/1/2010

After looking into the available commercial options for kalkwassers, I decided on the Aquamedic 1000. I bought it around 3 years ago (not from BRS unfortunately) for use with my Tunze Omolator. I found that the Tunze Ozmo supply pump was a bit too aggressive and caused excessive kalk clouding and switched over to an aqualifter. The 1000 itself functions as expected. Mine has been running/stirring nonstop for 3+ years and the only problem I’ve had so far is the stirrer motor has gone from relatively silent to a dull hum. I also had one of the plastic reducer bushings crack and leak after several years. This part was easily replaced with a quick trip to the hardware store. The top (motor and o-ring seal) has a twist lock for easy removal to add more kalk powder. One other useful feature is a built it check valve to prevent back siphoning kalk solution into your RO water storage tank. Overall I would highly recommend this product.
