Nice little chiller for nano reef By Raysun on 3/6/2014

My 17 gallon nano reef is in a room that can get very warm in the afternoon, requiring a chiller to keep the temperature in check. I have been using an Iceprobe for a about 18 months and it does the job quietly and with no fuss. I have it suspended above the filter chamber for a no-holes installation. I use my Apex for temperature control. If used stand-alone, a temperature controller will need to be added. (There is one available from Iceprobe.)
My only quibble with the unit is the ceramic coating on the probe started eroding very soon after installation (even though I was very careful in handing the unit and did not scratch or nick the coating.) The part of the probe in the water is pretty much bare aluminum now. It doesn't affect the operation but it does put a big chunk of aluminum in contact with my aquarium water. I contacted the Iceprobe folks several times when the finish problem first arose, but never heard back from them.
The unit is simple to operate, which is good, because if my experience is any indication factory support is non-existent.
