Great product!! Easy to setup and configure By Kenneth on 8/18/2015

I love this product!! Was easy to configure out of the box. I am no longer worried when I travel with work. You do have to becarefull when removing to add food as it is easy to pull front off and dump the remaining food into the tank by accident. I typically hold a plate under the feeder when removing the hopper. Would have gave it a 5 star rating if it had a latch to keep top on.
It does the job... By Patrick on 7/15/2015

It is loud the first time I heard it I got scared because I thought it was breaking. The sound really isn't an issue for me it's not like it runs for hours at a time it takes about 2 mins to feed and it is done. I can handle 2 mins of noise. I really like that it turns off the pumps and feeds and gives me the option of two feedings and adding as much food as I need. It truly is a great product for vacations and if you just don't feel like feeding the fish. I use it mainly for vacations or when I run out of mysti shrimp.
Piece of Junk By Jeff on 6/22/2015

Totally inconsistant with the amount of food dropped. The fish get anywhere from 1/2 the amount that I use to hand feed, up to 4 times that amount. Very disappointing. It's not as noisy as I feared it would be from other reviews, but it does make noise. It's also virtually impossible to open the container without spilling food all over the place, and as far as I know, you have to open the lid to adjust the feed amount (I couldn't find any other way to adjust it). The AFS doesn't integrate well with the controller either. If I try it automatic, the pumps don't shut off. If I try it through Feed A, it doesn't activate. I could eventually figure out the programming but I'm not going to bother. The biggest thing with me is the wide variance in the amount of food delivered. Poorly designed unit. Apex should be ashamed and I'm a bit put out with BRS for offering it for sale.

Works well for me thus far, however hearing all these others having problems and the warranty not being honored has me concerned. I am afraid Neptune would need to upgrade their warranty to cover humidity for me to give this product a 5 star rating. If something is designed to sit over water, it should be impervious to Humidity IMHO.
stopped working after 3 months By Jim on 2/2/2015

I am very disappointed in this feeder. After 3 months it just stopped. Send it to Neptune for repair and they said it was water related and not covered by warrantee. It seems not sturdy enough to sit over an aquarium. Don't waste you money.
Does exactly what it is supposed to By Brian on 1/23/2015

This thing is freaking sweet it is very easy to hook up and automatically created a tile on the fusion Interface once I plugged it in. As some of the other reviewer's have mentioned it is fairly noisy. The noise is not a concern to me because I bought this to feed my tank when I am not home. So far I like the crossover diet sample that was included I did mix in some normal pellets. As far as tuning I would recommend placing a plate underneath the feeder or testing it away from the tank. I did manage to dump a bunch of pellets in the tank on one of my first attempts. Overall, I'm happy with it and I would certainly trust it to feed for me when I'm away.

This is my first auto feeder. First off, the biggest issue I have is that in order to remove the container you essentially have to pull on the lid/cap. I think you've got about a 50/50 chance that you will not pull the container out and you will pull the lid off, spilling all the food into the tank. So, you have to remove the whole AFS EVERY time.
....not as loud as a blender, but louder than my dishwasher. (does that help?)... It's loud.
Decent, but I expect more out of Apex By Huck1795 on 1/1/2015

The unit is nice and the integration with the Apex controller can not be beat. I have had my unit for six months now and I have had the cover fall off a few times while trying to adjust the feed amount. Now I simply wait until it is empty before I remove which minimizes the potential for excess food to fall into my tank. The feed control is very touchy, but at the end of the day, the difference is not that big of a deal. I think that overall it is a good unit, and the pros definitely out weigh the cons

The thing is so incredibly loud, and it's not a defect.
Lookup the Lifeguard Intellifeeder. Notice everyone has music playing when they show it in operation? Ya. Because it's so loud you'll freak out thinking something is broken, it's not.
For 100$ this is junk.

I installed this on my apex with ease and it is running properly. Be sure to take the whole unit down before attempting to adjust feed amount . I wrote an advanced program and now I have multiple feed cycles with a delay after the pumps shut down. Now I don't have to burden my tanksitter so much when I'm on vacation.

The auto feeder from neptune really makes feed fish so much easier feed the same amount every time and i never forget to feed fish and don't have to be home to be sure they are fed. The unit is a little noisy but it isn't that bad.
Has been working great for almost a year By Joe on 11/17/2014

I have not had the problem of having the top come off while removing the drum, but I can see how that could happen, so I will not be more careful when I do that. However, since it hasn't happened to me yet, I can't lower my review because of it.
Because the unit connects to the Apex controller, I can turn main pump off, as well as turn a PH on to better distribute pellets when feeding, which works great.
The improvement I would make is on how you adjust the amount of food released. As others have noted, for smaller tanks (60 gal), it is very hard to adjust the unit to release small loads.
I don't care about the noise the unit makes for the few min. a day it is operating.
Overall, it has been extremely useful for me and is doing the job very well.

Big Neptune fan here, HOWEVER this product needs some major rework. Besides being noisy, the cover to the food container barely seats itself in place. Multiple times this has caused the entire contents of the food container to dump into my tank.
Easy to Program, needs refinement By Matt on 10/10/2014

I purchased two of the AFS units very close to the initial release. I do like how easy it is to program the units.
I've had the issues that others have mentioned: it's easy to pull the cap off when removing the food container from the unit (it took me hours to clean a tank where that happened), and it's hard to control the amount of food fed to the tank.
Also, I have had issues with both units' mounting clamps. Neither will hold in place firmly, so the unit moves around a lot. I've had a hard time finding a good place to mount it on my sump, and had to resort to a lot of velcro tape.
Lastly, and most importantly, one of my units died after about eight months of use due to "water damage" from the humidity in the sump (open backed cabinet). Neptune would not replace it, but to their credit, did offer a slight discount to repair it. However, fixing something that would most likely fail in another few months is not worth the money.
TLDR; The control design is nice, but the physical unit is poorly designed and likely to fail. I'll be finding another solution for feeding.

I used the included rubber feet to place this on top of my canopy with the drop chute positioned over a canopy vent. After fiddling with placement so the food drops where I want, I marked the correct spot with some blue painter's tape. This makes it easy to check the amount of food left as well replenish the food bin.
- Super easy to program from the Apex
- Can coordinate feeding with other activity in the tank (eg. turn off/down water flow)
- Dead simple installation (one aquabus cable)
- No batteries!
- My Anthiases have never been happier!
- Much noisier than I expected
- Lots of mounting options, but none really worked well inside my Marineland canopy. Works great up on top, though.
Apex can do better By Jt on 8/1/2014

Like others have mentioned, easy to instal and program. My problem is you must remove the entire feeder to remove the food housing. If you do not and try to pull the housing out, the top comes off and any food inside falls into the tank. Also this feeder is very loud. I've used the eheim feeder before and the sound difference is huge. I still stand behind the apex aqua controller as there is none better. The feeder just needs a little work. I was hoping it was just an auger that turns to move the food forward and drop out of the bottom. that would work for pellets, flakes, and plankton with more accuracy.

Unit stopped working, front fell off and dumped all food By Jmardis on 6/24/2014

This feeder was easy to hook up and program. After three months unit stopped working and would not run even with the power light on. The USB port looks to be rusted out. I do not think cheap USB connectors are meant to be above a saltwater tank.
While trying to trouble shoot no feed problem the front cover fell off and all the food dumped in my tank. The fish loved it my corals not going to like it for sure.
This unit was great when new but needs an improvement for the connector to avoid rusting.

The unit seems to do what is advertised to do. The programing was pretty easy and didn't take much time. I did exactly what someone said below though. I was trying to adjust the amount of food that falls and the cover accidently fell off and dumped the whole barrel of food into the tank. Wasn't fun getting all that food out of the tank the night before I was going on a trip. My advice there would be to make sure you take it off the tank before trying to fill or adjust, otherwise you end up with a mess. It is also noisy, but not sure why that upsets people because its short lived, cranks the food out then it stops. The amount of food adjustment could be better. I too have a 29 gallon and the lowest setting is finicky at best. Sometimes it drops just a few pieces and other times it drops the correct amount. If I bump it up 1 setting it puts way too much in. Other than that it shuts everything down, feeds, then starts everything back up in the correct time delay (that's using the apex controller).

I am super happy with my AFS. It was a breeze to program and integrate into my existing Apex system. It took me a few days to get the amount of food per rotation just right but with a little trial and error I'm happy. A big shout out to Neptune Systems for releasing another great product!
Not has Good As I would expect! By Dansbak on 5/10/2014

I would not recommend this feeder to a friend. It is very difficult to set up a program if you want to setup a delay feed. A delay feed of 2 minutes would allow the main tank overflow to stabilize so the food would not go over the overflow into the sump. It makes a loud noise as the auger comes out and rotates. The front cover is very flimsy and cheaply made. The front cover will come off if you are not careful and dump all the food in the drum out in your tank. One design flaw is you cannot adjust the amount of food dispensed without pulling the food drum out. I do not expect this feeder to last very long because of the orange wedge connector that holds the food drum in place. I foresee problems with it in the future. This was a waste of my money for the price. I expected a better product from Neptune Systems. I could have build a DIY feeder just as good for less money and I plan to! On a positive note, the food does keep dry and does not clump like other automatic feeders. I do like the fact it is integrated into the Apex webpage for manual feeding.

I waited months to get this product and the wait was worth it. I no longer stress that my neighbors may forget to feed or even over feed my tank. Also, it was previously stated that these feeders are loud, I don't think they are any louder then other feeders I've tried.

Just like everything else for the Apex... Seamless integration! That is assuming that you understand and grasp how to fully program your apex. I was able to set up virtual outlets and have it running in 15 minutes! The supplied food seems to be going over very well too! I might have to pick up some extra!
My only complaint, as said by one of the other reviews; it is very LOUD!!! It gets the job done, but I can hear it from my living room which is on the other side of the house!
It's so great to have another piece added to the automation puzzle!
