Got one overheated, set to 65 hits 90 degrees. Second one has a 4degree drop from set point temp before heater works during the day time.. Yes it goes to 79.2 heater goes off, and the heater will only go on at 75.2 consistently. Thats a 4 degree or more swing in a warm 75 degree home. Total waste of my time. One bad thats part of life but 2 bad= total waste of time... Why bother with the calibration it doesnt work. Mine was off by 5 degrees can only adj for 2, wow thats fantastically usles(gimmick) just set it to the accurate thermometer no matter the dials readings. Then remember the temp differences. But its real hard to turn the temp control, like herculean.
Works great, very tall though By frost0fractal on 9/17/2014

Be sure before ordering to check the dimensions, these are very tall heaters. The 200W model barely fit in the highest chamber of my 55 gallon sump. Otherwise they work great.
The best and most annoying, all in one heater By Daniel on 9/17/2014
Daniel would recommend this product to a friend
These heaters have very sturdy construction, great heating, large range, and easy calibration. The only problem is the temperature dial is extremely hard to change and the calibration out-of-the-box is wildly different from unit to unit. If you plan to crank it up to max and let your controller do the work, it's a sure-buy. If you plan to use the internal thermostat, you need to do some tinkering and would probably be better served by a different heater.
Best Heater EVER! By Powder Kat on 8/17/2014

There is no better heater that EHEIM. Excellent construction (German) and keeps absolutely accurate temperature. Never had a temp swing. I've purchased every heater out there and none hold temp for more than 6 months. I use the old junk ones to heat my water for changes. I put the Eheim in the tank and never touch it. Keeps perfect temp.

I bought 300W version of this heater and I can't understand why it is rated to heat up up to 250 gallons when it can't keep up with my 120 gallons tank. The temperature does not go above 75. I have to add more heaters to keep my temperature steady,
Total freakin' crap! By Michael on 6/14/2014

I cannot fathom why people think these things are worth anything. I have two differrent sizes of this heater and both have the same problem. They can't heat for crap! If I leave the window in the room open, I wake up to a 70° tank. That goes for both of them, even though they are both connected to aquacontrollers! That's right, folks! The big one in my 150 is connected to my apex, and the little one in my 16 is connected to my Reef Keeper, and they BOTH can't keep up with an open freakin' window!! Are you kidding me? A $20 off the rack heater from a big box pet store is better than these pieces of crap. Maybe I was unlucky enough to get two different lemons, but it's more likely that they are just garbage.
Best Heaters By Tom F on 5/5/2014

These are simply the best heaters you can get at these prices. They are very reliable, have protection circuit and priced well enough to get redundant ones to ensure the tank never gets too cold.
Good heater over all By Stephane on 5/1/2014

At first i was looking forward to getting this heater. I loved the fact that i can 'calibrate it'. however, the instructions are ok, but i find lacks details. I sometimes have a hard time readjusting the heater. The red ring still confuses me and im still unsure if it actually does anything. At one point i was trying to adjust it over 4 days. i got really frustrated with it and was considering getting an 'old school' heater. But, i manage to understand it enough to set it.
as for the quality itself... it's solid! very well made and you can see they did spend time making a quality product. I just wished that. It's very consisted with temperature. I use both a tape thermometer and digital and there are no temp swings. my Digital reports 80.1 consistently when ever i check.

I have this on my 65 gal, I have it set at 78, my tank will swing to 79 then to 76 in one day. Its hard to read the dial. Plus it has this two way dial up system that maybe I really did get. Im getting a reefkeeper, witch should fix this problem. I know a lot of people like this product, and mine maybe just a lemon, but I prob won't by this brand again

I like using these heaters as they are reliable. I have had a 300 Watt heater for almost 5 years now. Just use it in winter time but it has been very effective and reliable. Price here is about $10 less than at my LFS.

Bought a unit 4 months ago. The power light was on but it was not heating my tank. Went to the Jager website and had to write two complaints before i heard back a week later. They gave me a list of questions and trouble shooting to go through. I answered all there questions and never heard back from them. I Will never buy another of there products

I've owned this brand and I've never had a problem with one, Nice size and easy to read temperature dial. Seems to be accurate too.
Just wish it would've been a smidgen smaller to fit in my skimmer.

Jager heaters have a good reputation. When you hold one in your hand, you get an inkling of why--they are heavier than most glass-tube heaters and clearly well made. Of course the real "guts" are inside the tube and the things you want (reliable thermostat, even heat production, etc.) aren't something you evaluate by eye. I keep buying them because they haven't disappointed me on any of those fronts.
That said, my next heater purchase will be a TI heating element with a separate controller. I don't want to worry about the glass breaking or having the heating coil in the same tube as the electronics which will eventually degrade the latter.
So... Best of the old-style heaters? Yes, IMHO. Best heater overall? Probably not anymore.

This is a great heater. They are larger than the cheap ones you find at the chain pet store. Make sure the size you are buying will fix in sump/tank. I bought the 300watt and it wouldn't fit in my sump but the 200 watt works great.
I have two thermometers and this heater keeps my water at the perfect temp with no measurable temp swings from when it is on and off. This is important for the health of your corals and fish.
