I used to have a 55 gallon tank and was planning to upgrade to a 140 gallon tank. I did not want to buy the piranha and then have to buy the hammerhead a few months later, so I just bought the piranha. I had to insert a washcloth and use the acrylic pad on my 1/4" glass because the magnets were so strong it would almost scratch the glass. Now that I have the proper sized tank for the magnet it works wonderfully. Looks good too.

I bought this cleaner for my 3/4" thick acrylic display tank. The magnets are strong and give a very good scrub to the inside of the tank...glad I spent a few extra bucks for this model. Much easier to keep up on my maintenance, I was getting tired of trying to clean in 30" of water from above with other tools!

An excellent glass cleaner. Very strong magnet that is capable of removing those stubborn bits of algae on the glass that aren't touched by the cheaper versions. Also, esthetically more pleasing than a hunk of plastic stuck on the outside of the glass. Bought two, will buy another for my 3rd tank.

excellent product. comes with extra pads for both sides of the glass (smooth sliding and algae destroying. VERY strong magnets. does the job. don't be overzealous and get larger than needed. use the suggested ones for the glass thickness you have otherwise you'll be getting a heck of a work out and putting your glass in potential danger.

Good magnet, not great. Much Stronger than a magfloat, but does not seem to clean any better. This float still does not remove stubborn coraline or other thicker algae. The strong magnets are not really needed to remove the types of algae this scrubber handles well.(film algae)
I'm using on 1/2 inch acrylic so it may be slightly undersized. I like it, I'm just not thrilled, maybe my expectations were just too high.

I have the hammer head mag. I had what I thought was a problem. I emailed Mark told him I picked up the Hammerhead at brs and his service was second to no one !!! I see why BRS sells the Algea free mag and why I will never think at all about buying any thing from them again , and yes its great also buy the scraper blade it takes any thing off.

Not only does it clean better (stronger magnets) than traditional mag floats, but it also looks really classy on the tank. I leave it on the front of my display along the sand bed - it looks that good! And the fact that it comes with spare/replacement cleaning pads is a really nice touch! Don't look elsewhere - buy this for your tank.

After paying almost 100 dollars on the Tiger Shark and only having it for a couple months and the outside liner started peeling away leaving a sticky residue all over the outside glass of my tank.

I have since taken the liner off and use a small soft pad there and it works famously, but I shouldn't have to "rig" an item that costs this much after a couple months of use.

I'm new to the hobby. As you know, constant water changes, putting in live rock, figuring out the equipment, etc., has left little time to actually enjoy my work. I've cleaned the front of the tank 4 or so times with windex, but it was always smudged. I got this on a whim and it is amazing. All my work is viewable crystal-clear. Trust me... reward yourself and get this. It's not a necessity, but makes the tank the work of art that you worked for.

Other magnetic glass cleaners I've had in the past aren't strong enough to stay together and do a poor job of cleaning. The tiger shark magnetic glass cleaner is nothing like those. The magnet is strong enough to stay together through thick glass and has a tough cleaning pad for algae. Don't waste your time looking at anything else.

I've always ran the cheaper magnets and I aquired one of these with a tank I recently purchased and all I can say is wow. Not even on the same level with the others. It grabs/cleans way better than the rest, yes its a bit more pricey. But honestly, after using it, I dont think I could buy a cheap one again. Worth every penny.

I would consider this a "must have" item for anyone who takes this hobby seriously. Makes light work keeping your glass sparkling clean. Only heads up... be careful around the gravel line - especially if you have fine sand/gravel. These magnets are extremely powerful, and if anything gets caught in the pad it's very likely to scratch your glass. I usually use this to a half inch or so above the gravel line and use a kent scraper for anything below that.

I really wanted to like this magnet. It's outer wood shell is stylish and it floats. The problem is for my tank it's just too powerful. I have a 55g glass and the magnet skips around like a 1950's record player. There is no way to get it to slide across the surface of the glass.

I've tried going up, down, fast, slow, etc. It just skips. I'm assuming that although it's listed for my thickness glass, that it's just to powerful. Oh, and keep your fingers out of the way of this thing. It looks like it could do some damage if you got your fingers caught in between the two magenets slamming shut.

Now I'm out ~$50 and don't have a functional magnet.

Great product with extremely strong magnets that enable you to remove even the crusty stuff with just a few passes. I use it on 1/2 inch starphire and it works like a charm.

I would be hesitant to use on acrylic however. One sand granule or other substance harder than acrylic and you just turned your tank into a scratched up mess.

This cleaner works like a charm and is an excellent upgrade to the scrubber I previously used. I have to admit, however, that it costs more than it should. The magnets are super strong and it cleaned both sides of the glass to a sparkling clear finish. Hard to say that the results justify the price, so value was rated medium for me. I don't regret the purchase.

Awesome magnet, works well, worth the seemingly steep price. It works well on acrylic tanks, but you need to be a lot more careful. If you own an acrylic tank, you're probably used to that, though. Specifically: With glass I'd leave the magnet in the tank at all times, but with acrylic I don't want to risk something growing in it that will scratch. So taking it out every time is sort of a pain, but not a huge deal.

I got a hold of this unit for my 90gal reef. Although its strength is way overkill for my glass thickness, it cleans calcerous agaes in a few swipes where smaller magnetic cleaners would require a circular scrubbing motion for a decent amount of time. It is pricey, but the magnets are rediculously strong. Definitely a good buy

ok so once you get over the sticker shock and are PO'd at your old magna -something because it doesn't work well. you order this. the first time you use it you think "what took me so long" the thing works! cuts tank scrubbing time by 2/3 and does a better job. it makes a daily job most of us hate much better - worth the money? you decide...

man these things are strong.
that is a good thing but i do think it makes scratching your glass so much easier too. i find myself just using my mag float because of this.

While quite expensive (these use Neodymium rare earth magnets and the prices of Neodymium can fluctuate widely as China controls the majority of the world's supply), they perform very well. I have 1" acrylic and these cleaners clean the panels in just a couple of swipes. It is hard to turn the corners and if they separate, the half in the aquarium does not float (Great White only), so it will drop into the substrate. Also, you must be VERY careful with this product. You could really damage your finger, and if you are careless and clamp the two sides together, good luck getting them open.
