Affordable, but you get what you pay for. By Jeremy on 5/24/12
Jeremy would recommend this product to a friend
I bought a 550 and 750, they worked fine day one, and moved water nicely. By day two the 750 was not turning on when the wavemaker would go on. I would have to help it get started. By day 4 the 550 was also giving me trouble. They were being run on a Red Sea Wavemaster Pro with the "Soft Start" function to reduce wear on pumps, but they began failing immediately. I switched them to timers to reduce the frequency of the on/off cycle, but the 750 completely quit working, and the 550 has to be on constantly or else the start up will be intermittent and unreliable. I have had hydor power heads in the past and they all worked great, even on the Wavemaster Pro, but these two have not. I believe I just got some "Lemons". If you need cheap water movement and don't need your pumps to cycle then go with these, but if you want to be able to cycle them on and off, I wouldn't recommend them.

Cord would recommend this product to a friend
This pump is great, I love how quite it is and the amount of flow it produces. Also 6w is real good compared to some other pumps. I have to say kudos to bulkreefsupply.com.
They shipped it right away i got it sooner than they said. they shipped it in a very secure box that was way better then they had to. for that matter everything i have gotten from them has been in perfect condition due to there shipping process again kudos bulkreef.

I've bought this pump from somewhere else and had issues with going and reverse and not coming on after power outage. So far the two I got from BRS are working perfect.

Great but not really wavemaker safe By Jamey on 5/1/12
Jamey would recommend this product to a friend
I purchased two evolution 750 pumps for my 55 gallon reef. The pumps have great flow and are extremely quiet when ran continuously. Once connected to a wavemaker they are rather noisy and within a few months the front grill is completely broken and occasionally runs in reverse. If not placed on a wavemaker these pumps give you the best "bang for your buck".

Good value for the price By tedcb on 4/30/12

I've got six of these on various tanks. Like others have said, it's better to leave them on all the time rather than on a wavemaker. Periodic cleaning is helpful. Great flow for the the size and price.

Great flow pumps. They have worked well for the time I have used them. You have to be a little careful when taking them apart, not to force it, or you could break the plastic, but these worked great until I decided to upgrade to a dedicated wave maker - Ecotech MP40w which I purchased here at BRS.

I really like how quiet these pumps are. I also like the magnetic back (really keeps the power head in place). Will be purchasing again for another tank!

Currently running two 1050s on my 90 gallon frag. tank along with a Hydor Smart Wave controler. Very effective circulation, great surface agitation for oxygen exchange and a very quiet system. Without a doubt the most "bang for your buck" flow system I've encountered in nearly 30 years of reef keeping.Superb choice for the new reefer or intermediate reefer who doesn't want to drop big bucks.

Old ones have better flow By Scott on 2/17/12
Scott wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
I bought 2 of these because I had have used the older 1400's and loved them. These pumps seem to put out much less flow, don't get me wrong they are still powerful, but not as much as the old ones. the flow seems to be more laminar also. They are much quieter on startup than the old ones but don't use them on a wavemaker (even though hydor says its ok) they still give a click that is annoying and one of the pumps stopped working after about a month on my apex at 15 sec on 15 sec off. Now the pump only turns on sometimes and runs backward 1/2 the time, I just keep it on all the time now.

I purchased the 750 for a 40 gallon reef tank. It has been running in my system for over a year now with no issues what so ever. It runs extremely quiet and it very easy to clean.
I would recommend this item to anyone looking for an inexpensive extremely reliable powerhead.

Great value, and controllable... By Allan on 1/25/12

Just got a trio of 1400s for my 75 gallon, and I'm very pleased with the resulting flow. These replace a Koralia 4 and two Koralia 2s that I've had for a few years. They worked ok, but I wanted to put them on a controller and when you do, they clatter like crazy.
The new evolutions do not clatter but about half the time they do make a sort of thudding sound on starting. The thudding sound is not a big deal to me. MUCH quieter than the original Koralias clattering.
To those complaining about these starting in reverse: The prop needs to be able to move forward in the event that it starts in the wrong direction. The forward movement causes it to hit a rubber bumper (cause of the thudding sound) which stops it and gives it a chance to spin the other way. If the pump is dirty then the prop may be prevented from moving forward, thus there is nothing to stop it and get it going in the other direction. If you're having issues, then give it a good cleaning, and maybe a soak in vinegar.

good flow By Andrew on 1/6/12
Andrew would recommend this product to a friend
They are clean and quiet and move a great deal of water more diversly than my previous power head a maxi-jet 1200. The pivot ball construction allow for wide array of positions. Evo pumps are good and I am very pleased with the purchase , I look forward to using them in conjucntion with the smartwave wavemaker, my only concern, or would like to see explored is the design to move the power cord outside the tank like the vortech, the magnetic mount is great, but would have an even cleaner look if they could evolve the technology to an external wire configuration. It a great balance of flow enough to move the water but not too much to blow softies around

Economical By Bruce on 12/27/11

For the price its a good little pump that works best if it is run continuously. Shutting off for feeding times or water changes can be frustrating due to the pump often going into reverse. Shut it off and then back on and sometimes it corrects itself.

I used two of these side-by-side with a magnum 5 and an older Koralia 4. Produces more flow then the 4, and nearly a much as the 5, but is smaller then either of those. Quiet, and controllable with a wavemaker. Excellent pump and a fair price.

Hydor Koralia Evolution 1400 By pk on 11/20/11

This would be a great pump if the magnet shaft didn't split and swell up so much that it wouldn't turn anymore. This pump starts up sometimes, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it starts in reverse. Outside of these things, it great!
