3FT + 1/4" netting By Kelly on 3/13/2015

After losing a fish via open top and not liking a canopy option. I came across the netting option. Measure twice and cut once fits perfect with nice rigid netting. I found its better to test fit part way through to make sure it will fit your aquariums trim top. Think of an L shape. Took all of 15- 20mins to complete
Keeps the Fish In By Michael on 3/5/2015

Aside from operator (me) error while assembling it, its very functional and it keeps the fish in and does not affect the light flow into the tank. I love the fact that this was a kit and had eveything I needed. The next time I get a tank, I am definietly buying another netting kit.

I was very pleased with how easy this was to do. This was my first time using a screen roller and rolling a screen, and I did this the first time with no issues what so ever. Comes with enough screen to replace again if you need to. The final product looks great and professional and it doesn't cast shadows in your tank. The best part is the peace of mind knowing that your "jumper" fish will still be in your tank when you return home from being gone.

Great way to protect suicidal fish By Joshua on 12/15/2014
Joshua would recommend this product to a friend
Being fish they have a rough life and sometimes they have suicidal tendencies. This is a safety net just in case one of your fish decide they don't want to live anymore. It assemblies easy enough with a hacksaw and 20mins of your time.
Pros: I ordered two 2ft sections for each of my tanks and they ended up sending me 3'x7' sections of clear mesh instead of what I would have expected 2'x2'section so I have plenty of extra cloth for replacement down the line if I need it.
Before final assembly I cut a hole in the screen top and was able to route the heater cord up and over and then attached the netting around it making it look rather smooth and minimize the hole I had to cut to prevent those pesky jumpers.
Cons: The only thing I can say is my hacksaw wasn't sharp enough so when starting the cutting it would skip around and scuff it up a little bit. Not a huge issue but I would be keen to find a slightly better solution to make it look flawless. This isn't a fault of the product but of my inability to figure out a better solution.
The only other thing I ran into is I have a light mounting kit that interferes with the whole top so I need to get four extra corners so I can put a notch in the back of the top so it can be easily removed. Again, not a problem with the product but a heads up if you have a similar issue you may want to buy four extra corners when you order the kit.

I have an open top 105g. I had 2 Flame Hawkfish jump to their demise. I think 1 was eaten by my cat Purseus... RIP Firehawk. It was time for me to add a screen top!
The thing that held me back was cord management. How was I going to do this? You could leave a slight gap at the rear of tank.
What I did was purchase clear, rubber stick-on feet (meant for underneath speakers, lamps etc) I purchased an 8 pack for a couple bucks. I placed the sticky feet as spacers everything is kosher now! My screen fits on the edge of my tank allowing my cords to exit the tank.
This project was much easier than I anticipated!
Works Great By Russell on 11/22/2014

Very happy with the quality, simplicity, and look of this DIY screen top. The mesh does not cause any noticeable shadowing which I was very happy to find.
Only small nit is that the straight pieces are the dimensions that are listed so when you put in the angle, the completed screen will be 1-1.5" longer than shown. The material is very easy to miter to the correct length, but you still have to go through the effort.
Also happy that you have plenty of extra mesh in case you mess up the first time or decide to change tanks in the future I can re-use.

This kit has saved my new Blue spot Jawfish
I actually tried tracking down the materials at my local Home Depot and could not find netting that I liked. This kit ended up being a few bucks more but it was well worth it to have all the materials in one kit.
The top is easy enough to assemble. Just make sure you are careful when cutting the frame with a hack saw. I bent it just a tiny bit and has trouble putting the corner pieces on. A quick fix was achieved by flaring the opening edges a little and then smoothing them back down after attaching the corners.
The finished product looks great and doesn't block out any light. The 1/4 screen size is too small to let any future purchases going carpet surfing.

My two clowns are a bit jumpy, and enjoy making me panic when I hear them splashing about. This netting kit was easy to put together, even in a shape that would go around the equipment in the back of my tank. Thanks for making a nice all in one kit! I love that I didn't have to run all over the hardware store looking like an idiot trying to find exactly what I needed.

While there isn't any real innovation with the product, it's executed well, and at the right price. The finished product looks good, and really isn't that hard to assemble. If you've ever replaced the screens on windows before, it makes it even easier. It's also really nice that they include everything you need to get it assembled (with the exception of a saw to cut it to length).

I shopped around and the kit from BRS was better quality and less hassle than trying to piece something locally. Yes i probably could have saved a few bucks but the end result is well worth it. I have a great looking top that was easy to put together with no surprises. One tip- take your time cutting the frame with a hacksaw as the frame is easy to damage. Thanks BRS!

If you use the proper tools and follow directions this DIY screen should work just fine. I used You tube videos and was able to put it together fairly quickly. Fits well as a screen and does not effect light shimmer at all.

I used this for my Deep Blue 60 cube and it came out great. Don't try to make the screen to tight or it will twist the frame. I made it just smaller than the inside dimensions of the glass and it sits inside so perfectly you can't even tell is there.

This is a great product--the frame is easy to cut and put together, tight fit so that it's not flimsy, sits flat and the mesh is also easy to get straight and taut. Depending on the size of your tank, there is lots leftover of the screen and the spline for future changes or repairs which is a nice bonus. Overall somewhat expensive but the results were worth it.

Michael would recommend this product to a friend
Yes, I am aware that you could probably find all the parts for this kind of build at a hardware store, potentially even for less money. That's not the point of this kit. The point is that you buy a kit that's been tested over other people's tanks that you know works and won't require a single (or subsequent) trip to the hardware store. I used a simple hacksaw and rotary tool to cut and smooth the 3 foot kit to fit my Nuvo 24. It looks great and keeps my temps down in the hot Texas climate.

I have a custom sized rectangular tank with wrasses who jump. The top worked perfectly. While not quick to assemble.with frame cutting and inching along to get the screening tight, the final product looked great. I compared pricing for the kit components at a local hardware store and BRS was price competitive.

I am not a big fan of the frame material but in general this seems to be the only game in town if you want this type of cover with clear screen material. I hope it holds up to the salt environment. The build process is pretty simple, but can be a little finicky to keep the screen tight and the frame square.

Great job, BRS! I wish I had known about you all sooner. The kit was very easy to put together, though the 3'x2' dimensions likely mean almost everyone needs to trim this at least a little (probably cost-prohibitive for you to include a throw-away saw, though!). Luckily I have a hacksaw and some medium sandpaper. The assembly looks great and does its job. Thank you!

Ordered 3 ft. quarter in. mesh kit. All you need is a dremmel to cut the aluminum tubing. You get extra mesh and insert to hold mesh. Put it on my 40 breeder reef tank. The tubing is about 4 '' extra in length. I couldnot use it all since I have equipment hanging off back of tanksince I donot runa sump.So I just cut a 4'' strip of eggcrate to go around my skimmer, refugium, and penguin200 filter. Now I don't have to worry as much about my yellow coris wrasse jumping out of the tank.Well worth getting if you have FISH that jump!

I'm the rare female in this hobby whom is pretty handy. However, I needed a screen top for my new Deep Blue Professional 60g rimless and bought this kit with some hesitation. I didn't give this 4-5 stars because they aluminum frames were not perfectly straight, which caused some problems. I had to inset this frame into a rimless aquarium and create small tabs to hold it in place. The slight arc in the frames created a 1/2"+ gap where fish could jump out.
Unless you're doing a highly precise installation then this option should work out perfectly for you.

My 120 Gal has a center-brace. Ried helped me modify the kit to maintain kit price with addition of extra corner braces & frame. As others mention it goes together quickly and its not hard to get the netting taut. The brown/black frame is a perfect compliment to my Aqueon Tank.
I had to account for a few cords & tubes entering the water at the back so I had to leave a gap. The frames are strong enough to span the 24'' gaps without a problem. I had plenty of each kit item and didn't have to buy a roll of spline at the local box store. This saved $$. Great product!

This product does take some patience during assembly. However aesthetically, I've yet to find a more appealing cover. I have a glass cover on my 55 gallon freshwater and the gas exchange is quite poor. One word of caution, water will splash though if using a low hanging lighting system. I doubled up my mesh netting to catch more of the water.
