Installed the check valve. Went quickly after I finally got all the parts to mate it to 3/4" vinyl return line. The main reason for the install was to prevent backflow to sump when switching of return pump. Didn't work, just slowed the backflow. Haven't had a chance to uninstall and take apart to see why the valve isn't stopping backflow but intend to in next couple of day.

I normally do not write reviews but for this product I feel I should as it has a flaw in the design that is pretty easy to fix. They used a standard O-ring to seal the upper and lower union. I have my check valve hooked up to a Reflo Hammer head. and that pump created too much pressure for the O-ring and no matter how much I tried to tighten the union the unit would leak. I built in redundancy on my system so I have two units in series. Both units leaked in the same place. at the bottom union where the back pressure is greatest right before the swing valve.

I replaced the standard O-ring with a double seal O-ring from McMaster-Carr part number 90025K393. This took care of the issue and the leak is gone.

for lower pressure systems I am sure the standard O-ring is fine. But if you have a high pressure system that O-ring (sized to fit your valve you will have to measure yours and order the correct O-ring the part number I posted will only fit the 2" valve) will fix your leak.

I would recommend this unit, but I gave it only 3 stars as the manufacturer should just put the right O-ring on the valve. they are practically the same cost.

No check valve is 100% safe in your aquarium so be prepared for future issues if you are only relying on this as your main source of stopping water.

That being said this true union is great. Decently priced. Easily taken apart for cleaning and inspections, and the clear plastic helps to see issues before they occur and no metal springs to corrode or fail from salt.

Be sure to design your sump to handle all back flow because checkvalves are not good insurance for flod control. They seep water slowly and in a long term power outage it will flood if your sump isn't large enough. This product does work as good as any check valve but I don't feel any of them can be relied on to stop a flood.

A valve isn't necessarily the most glamorous piece of equipment we rely on for proper operation and failure preparedness - but important nonetheless. These valves work every time and provide just a little extra peace of mind that you don't come home to wet floors! Would recommend.

Affordable, and so far has worked flawlessly. Everyone should have one of these on your sump return pipe. Simple to install and its nice to be able to view the inside of it through the clear pvc.

Does what it was made to do prevent the back flow of water.

The unions make it handy for cleaning and replacement when it fails.
All check valves are subject to failure in the long run.

I would not depend on a check valve to prevent the draining of the main tank into your sump to prevent flooding. Design the sump to hold all the water that will drain from the main tank during pump or power failure.

This valve is a good value and I would recommend it to others when used in the right situation.
