Enjoy this reactor. It's easy to install and to use. Actually surprised me how quite it is with the pump MJ1200 pump. The reactor is well built and can see it lasting along time. Have to say that the hose and connections could have been better but the rest was good enough for me to still give 5 stars.
Excellent & Easy to Install Reactor By Ryan on 11/12/2014
Ryan would recommend this product to a friend
As with other BRS products, I would highly recommend this product for a few reasons: 1. effectiveness, 2. ease of install, and 3. video back-up to assure confidence in product purchased. Measurable phosphates prior to installation, were already low - below 1.0. However, after the reactor we have been able to decrease the phosphate level to 0.25 according to the Salifert Test Kit. We are very pleased with the ease of changing media due to the removeable media cartridge! The only negative comment, would be that the tubing that came with this reactor was stiff & not pliable; however, it is still a 5-star product.

pump leaked voltage.... By jonathan on 9/27/2014

i bought this reactor set. the reactor is top notch, and i would buy it again. the pump.... not so much.
i had my reactor / pump set running on my 75g for 7 months, when i started having coral die. i lost most of my sps and a dozen ricordia. i tested, and found i had voltage in my tank!!!
the pump leaked 110 v into my tank!!! i tossed it, and bought a dc pump. i ran the return, reactor, and skimmer off the same dc pump. several months later, i once again have sps and ricordia thriving.
so... reactor is great, but the pump tazed my tank....
the reactor is the only reason i gave it any stars. i lost a bunch of beautiful coral and money because of that pump.
i would buy the reactor again.... and toss the pump....

Helped turn around my phosphate issues quickly and the entire setup is super quiet. Easy install and holds good pressure from sump, through chamber, and and return. I have it setup as part of my main sump return and going up at least 40" and it works great (20 gallon reef with 5.5g sump. The only downside in my option is the piping it comes with. It's super rigid (good thing), but tough to work with if you're using it as a return like me and un-coil, lol. On the other hand the push type fittings are SUPER strong and totally prevents any leakage. I just routed my piping with PVC instead and used the same fittings. SUPER PRODUCT!
Great reactors, but beware of the hard tubing By Bert on 6/19/2014
Bert would recommend this product to a friend
As ususal, great quality by BRS, and the design is similar to their rock-solid RODI units. I have two of these reactors, one for GFO and the other for ROX Carbon. Taking the canisters on and off for replacing media is simple and the selling point for me on these was the internal canister that makes media exchange quick and easy.
On the downside unfortunately, is BRS' choice to use 1/2" Mur-lok tubing which is so stiff, it makes placement of these reactors a challenge in tight spaces. BRS provides extra angle and a straight adapter, but still, if you don't have precise 90-degree bends, you can be in for problems getting this to work -- and not create leaks at the connections. If you want to drive 2 of these reactors off a single pump as I did, you'll have to do a lot of looking for a T-connector that works with this tubing -- no Lowes, Home Depot, or Ace Hardware had the right type in my major metropolitan area, so I had to search Amazon, buy several types, to eventually find one that would work. Similarly, if you don't use a Cobalt MJ1200 recommended by BRS to drive this (it would push directly into the provided straight-line connector), you're basically stuck, again, having to search for a way to connect flexible tubing to this solid Mur-lok tubing -- those connectors too, are even more difficult to find, but I eventually found a package of 10 (only needed 1) straight-line to barb connector that is designed to work with this size tubing and I now have flexible silicon tube running from my pump to the T and up to both reactors.
Customers should consider how this 1/2" OD almost inflexible tubing may or may not work in your situation, and BRS would serve their customers even better by offering the appropriate Mur-lok adapters for sale on their site that are necessary to connect two of these up in a T format, as well as to utilize flexible tubing if needed. This would have saved me more than $30 in wrong-size and additional adapters I had to purchase through the net, as well as sped-up my installation time by more than 2-weeks of frustrating trial-and-error.

Prior to purchasing the BRS reactor, I was using a "Two Little Fishies" unit that worked OK. It was a bit oversized for my aquarium and was taking up too much space in my cabinet, so I wanted something more compact.
The BRS unit is very well constructed and high quality all around. It was easy to assemble and start. I have not had to change the media yet, but it looks like it will be much easier to do than the TLF unit that I have replaced.

After watching the episodes on BRS tv about reactors I chose to get two of these. One of for GFO and the other for carbon. I've been running these for about a year now with no problem. The paired MJ pumps are reliable and the reactors them selves are solid and of very good build quality. They are easy to work with when changing out the media. Great product!!!!

This piece of equipment is very strong and solid. Easy to use and comes with almost everything. I would have to suggest to add the connector to use on another pump. It was a PITA finding the correct connector to fit both the piping and my pump. For the price of this unit, an additional connector should be included. I do like the reactor, and best of all it can be adapted to current equipment without having to supply electricity to another piece of equipment.

I just installed this 3 days ago on my main tank, I am running both GFO and carbon mix, as described in their video. I am really happy to consolidate two reactors into a single one. This thing is solid, and my initial opinion from just deploying it is very positive. The included hoses are solid, don't flex at all really so you have to work with them and you need to wiggle and push while you insert into the push connectors to make sure you get them in all the way. I was pushing quite hard, wasn't going in any further, then I wiggled a little bit and the hose went in a bunch further. The sizes seem to be 1/2 inch outer diameter, as compared to hoses you buy at a hardware store that are 1/2 inner diameter, 5/8 inch outer diameter. Bottom line is, they might not match up to plumbing you have, if you are hoping to tee off of plumbing you already have, which I did. Had to make some adjustments to get this plumbed.

I've purchased 4 of these for 2 different tanks.. 3 go on my 75 with the mj1200 pumps.. one for biopellets that i haven't ran yet . one for carbon which works like a charm and one for gfo .. i would recommend for you to purchase extra reusable cartridges and pads to make the swap of carbon media a breeze.. also do not run any pads with the gfo.. great reactors i must say… pumps are more then enough to push water through.. this is a great investment..

I got this for my 75 gallon reef that has been having issues with water clarity. It was easy to set up though the tubing is a bit stiff and doesn't always go where you want. It seems to work well. I am only running carbon in it right now. The water clarity has not improved quite as much as I hoped it would but it has been set up for less than a week so hopefully that will improve with time.

I use for GFO on my 179 Gallon system. I like the ultra clear body and media champers. Great for tuning the flow. The inner media chamber did cloud up from the bottom to just above the media level. But I think some dilute HCl or LimeAway will clear that up. I'm guessing it is precipitated carbonate. The pump is just the right size. I really like the John Guest fittings and with BRS including the ball valve was a nice touch (Thanks!). I use the valve to adjust the flow to get the bed really churning and then back off until the bed is just moving slightly throughout and at top. I was using a sock for GFO, but if I did use my hand to move it around every day or two, it would become one big massive chunk. That is not happening at all with the BRS reactor. I also like the extra long tubing included with the reactor.

I have a small tank and have been battling algae outbreaks. Since adding this I can see a decrease in the amount of algae. It was pretty easy to set up and get going. The only thing I didn't know was that when you push in the lines to the push-connect (which are awesome) make sure that you push until it locks into place. I thought I had them pushed in all the way until I plugged it up and water shot out through all of them! Small mess but easily fixed.

I was surprised at how fast the Phosphates dropped and the algae died off this happened so fast that I had a tank crash that caused a panic I lost one fish a cleaner shrimp, it took a 30% water change the 5% a day for 4 days and changing out the filter socks daily they were loading up with dead algae, yes I had a algae issue prompting this purchase, I just wish I knew what to expect! I guess I experienced a mini crash? that lasted a week my levels are back to normal and the fish are happy. if you have a big issue I would suggest 1/2 the GFO recommended for your tank size to start maybe less so this does not happen to you. changing anything in your tank can have unknown effects I think my cleaning crew helped a lot " I did remove the snails and put them in a Quarantine tank for the first 2 days till I got the levels down to were I was comfortable".

This is running a carbon/gfo mix on my 36 gallon. Red hair algae had been a slight issue for me with the canister. Three days after installing this and running the carbon gfo mix I'm already seeing results.
Straight forward install, easy maintenance, low cost...no downsides at all.
Like most reefers, I'm a huge fan of this reactor.
