Dual BRS reactor By Karen on 5/29/13
Karen would recommend this product to a friend
Easy to set up. Works great. The 3' included tubing
is too short for hanging the unit on my wall next to tank.
If I could fit the unit behind my tank the tubing would work
but I can't so off to home depot I go. I should have ordered
longer tubing so I won't deduct a star for me being short
sighted. I just didn't realize how short 3' is.

Works great and easy to use. I put it in my sump just in case of a leak, but I do not feel it will leak so I may move it.
If the tubing could be more flexible I would have given it five stars.

Glenn would recommend this product to a friend
This is my first reef tank and I had absolutely no problems setting this up in a matter of minutes. The product is well-built and has been keeping my water clear and phosphates at 0.00. The cobalt maxijet 1200 pump is definitely the way to go. Extremely quiet operation. From what I hear they're Italian made very reliable as well. I would not hesitate to buy this product again or recommend to a friend.

Works but under powered By Chase on 5/1/13
Chase would recommend this product to a friend
Like other reviews have said I like the reactor over all but it is under powered for my 180g system. Constantly getting clogged in the sponges, I even did it without the sponge and it clogged the bottom vents. Looking for another type of pump to power it, until then i have taken it off line.

it is worth it!!!! By dimitri on 4/18/13

I was having phosphate issues and my water was not really that clear so i went searching for a reactor when i looked on youtube and saw the Bulk Reef Supply Dual Reactor and the review by two guys that are part of BRS it really convinced me that the DUal reactor would solve my problems. So I ordered it even tho on the video it said it was only good up to 120 gallons, I disagree I have about 135 gallons running through my 125 gallon LPS dominated reef tank and by the end of the first week all of my cyano bacteria vanished and within 3 week all the hair algae i had had been eradicated, and beside running GFO which i bought from BRS i also used the other reactor for carbon and it is wayyyy better than putting two bags of Chemi Pure in my sump. totally worth the 50$ plus i modded it to fit and old pump i used for my nano so no need for there pump if you have a small one lying around. I only used 1 cup of carbon and one cup of GFo my first time and it has only been about 3 weeks since adding them and it made such a HUGE difference. i could notice in less than a day the difference it made.

Great initial response, inadequate pump. By Dalton on 4/17/13

Pump worked great when i played around with it in my tank but it seems like when attached to the BRS dual reactor it is just to under powered. Reactor itself had no issue and was accompanied with great instructions.

Great quality but limited on connections By tyvek on 4/11/13
tyvek would recommend this product to a friend
Love the idea and variety that can be used. But had no way to connect any one of 3 different pumps to it? If it is dependent on "john guest" fittings then share the wealth and include an adapter or two...seriously.
For small systems(100 gallons or less) the maxijet that luck of the draw fits then okay. But for anyone else with more throughput and the reactor flow supports it then a slightly bigger pump would beneficial.
With a 15+ reef have had enough improvising and engineering to fill a small book.

works well for medium systems By Andy C on 4/8/13
Andy C would recommend this product to a friend
I'm running carbon and GFO, 1.5 cups each, for a 200 gallon system and change each every two weeks. I had to upgrade the maxijet to a 500gph eheim pump to prevent clogging, mostly because of the carbon. Eventually I would like to get a seperate one chamber reactor for carbon and then use this dual just for GFO, 1.5 cups in each chamber changed monthly. Right now it works, though.
I do run it opposite of the label, carbon in chamber one and GFO in chamber two. Running GFO first clogged the sponges for the carbon within a week. With carbon first, it flows great for at least two weeks.

Purchased this to run carbon and GFO in my first salt water reef tank. So far so good. I mounted it to the wall; the bracket made it very easy. The tubing it comes with is very bent and hard to get straight, but other than that, it came packaged nicely and is working well so far

So far so good By Jeremy on 3/31/13
Jeremy would recommend this product to a friend
So far works as it should. Pump seems to do the job so far but I personally wish I would have purchased a more high quality pump separately. Also if the hoses are wiggled at all in the fittings water will leak from the fitting otherwise watertight. Over all a great product.

Pretty Good By cdbstl76 on 3/27/13
cdbstl76 would recommend this product to a friend
I like this product. I had the single, and did a mix of GFO on the bottom and Carbon on top. It worked OK, but there was too much getting clogged. Running this dual chamber is much more efficient. I don't understand the complaints on flow from the pump. The most efficient way to remove compounds is pro-longed contact time with the medium. I have mine running at a little under 3/4 on the valve. This works very well for me. I really like this product!

I was very excited to receive my dual reactor with mj 1200 pump. I was really disappointed with the pump. Maybe it is my fault for not researching the pump. I assumed that bulk reef supply would bundled it with pump you can just attach it to the tubing like on my Next Reef MR1gfo reactor.

Quiet, Easy to Use By Kathy on 3/22/13
Kathy would recommend this product to a friend
Pump is quiet, my protien skimmer is louder. Easy to mount and assemble. All parts included. After 3 weeks, tank is not so clear, but phosphate level is lowering. The sponge in the carbon canister drops down, but according to BRS as long as the carbon stays up-no worries. Seems to work well so far. Don't like: I have to constantly adjust the flow into the GFO canister, not sure why, it is an inconvenience and slight worry.

Effectiveness, Ease of Use, and Esthetics By Austin on 3/22/13
Austin would recommend this product to a friend
With so many attributes to look after in our tanks we in the reefing world look for 3 things: effectiveness, ease of use, and esthetics. The BRS GFO & Carbon Reactor gives us all three. This is the most integrated, cohesive, and effective unit to pull out unwanted phosphates and nutrients from your tank. Because the reactors are combined it makes the unit more efficient in processing water and reduces the number of pumps in your sump. The removable cartridges make this the easiest reactor to maintain. I've purchased an extra set just for added simplicity. Lastly, the space it takes up is minimal, especially if you compare it to other reactors required to do the same job. For added space management you can mount this reactor to any wall. I would absolutely recommend this reactor to anybody.

Pump could be better By Travis on 3/16/13
Travis would recommend this product to a friend
I really like the combined chambers to save space however the MJ1200 pump just seems too weak. I have the unit almost level to not lose much head pressure and it just doesn't seem to push what I thought it would. I will be switching out the pump as soon as I can. My advise is to just buy the unit and get a different more powerful pump.

Needs to be modified By lostmyz on 2/28/13
lostmyz wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
No offense, to everyone who likes this product. I initially bought it and thought it was great. However, after months of using the product I have to say it is sub-par. It is a glorified RO/DI canister with a removable chamber (which is cool for easy clean out). With that said, it is not very efficient. Due to the fact the flow stinks through it even with the MaxiJet 1200 attached. You constantly have to monitor it because it gets clogged and the flow slows down. Also a down side to this is the fact that te Chambers are connected in parallel. And the flow drastically declines in the Carbon Chamber after a while as the GFO chamber slows down. I think the product would be better engineered if it allowed you to have individual flow to both chambers and the ability to control said flow. All you need to do is rotate the Canisters on how they are attached to the mounting plate. Add a "Y" fitting with 2 valves one for each canister and than on the outflow side connect the outflow with another "Y" fitting and you are done. This will add a lot of control to the system and no account for as much clogging and decreased flow. It is just my two cents on the matter.

Great price but tricky to get the flow. By Isaac on 2/28/13
Isaac would recommend this product to a friend
I will recommend this product to others because with a few tricks it works very well. I had many problems with trying to get the flow to stabilize. It would work well for a day and then the flow would just stop and everything would just settle to the bottom of the canister on the GFO side. It took a few tries before I realized that it was because tiny bits of GFO were passing from the GFO canister into the bottom of the carbon canister and blocking all of the water flow. What I found was that if I left the carbon canister out for a day and only ran GFO for the first day or first few days, all the small pieces of GFO would have passed through and I could add the carbon without fear of getting the bottom carbon sieve clogged. Also, the sponges don't hold their place very well at all.

User error... By Sunny on 2/17/13
Sunny would recommend this product to a friend
I need to apologize about my recent negative post... I dosed Ca and Alk at the same time in my sump with the BRS 1.1 ml doser and also placed the 1200 pump forthe reactor in the same area and it caused the strainer plates to clog (as well as the pump itself) which severely restricted the flow. Once I realized what happened I started dosing separately and place the return pump for my reactor in another area of my sump and actually had to gate the flow down some.

Phosphates beware By JPRO on 2/16/13

I originally saw this product on youtube with both canisters containing GFO in the bottom and one with packed carbon at the top. With a 130 gallon tank this setup is working great with the pump supplied in the kit. The see through containers allow you to view the slow "boil" of the gfo.

Clogs and is useless after a week... By sunny on 2/14/13
sunny wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
I have the single and it works great, this one is a waste of money. It would be nice for BRS to address this issue and get it resolved, the pump that came with this unit does not have enough flow and they should sell one that is designed to work for longer than a week.

JABlacher would recommend this product to a friend
Can't argue with this setup at all. A twin canister reactor that you can mount on the wall with the attached mounting plate, a ball valve to adjust the flow and the available pump. How could you possibly get a more complete product at a better price. Put your carbon in one and GFO in the other and your media nightmares are over. This reactor is built like a tank and is ridiculously easy to change out media. Thanks BRS!

GREAT REACTOR, GREAT PRICE By Bryce on 1/24/13
Bryce would recommend this product to a friend
This is a great reactor. I am using BRS GFO and BRS Premium ROX 0.8 carbon in mine. The thing only took a few minutes to setup and the included ball valve makes it even easier to adjust the flow rate to your liking. Do not let the low price fool you, this thing is very durable unlike some other reactors available. The MJ1200 is also a very good pump mated with this reactor. It is very quiet and offers a modest flow rate suitable for this application.
The only problem I encountered was that the included tubing was too short for my purposes as I am unable to fit the reactor under my stand (due to my sump using the whole space) and am forced to run it outside the stand. I was able to purchase some extra tubing at a local hardware store for only a few dollars though so it is only a minor inconvenience.

I bought this about 2 months ago. Very easy assembly and very easy to change the media when needed. I noticed a substantial improvement in water clarity and phosphates were lowered within a couple of days.
I give it a 4 because I bought the full set up with the MJ1200 pump.. it needs a better pump! Should be changing the GFO weekly and the Carbon bi weekly. However, within a couple days the GFO has settled into a solid block and the water flow through it is very slow.

Great value, easy media changes By Matt on 1/13/13
Matt would recommend this product to a friend
For media that needs changes at least monthly, this style of canister makes changing out media a breeze. I would suggest buyIng a couple extra BRS media cartridges to make media changes even easier. I'm currently running this reactor with a Mag 3 pump, and you could probably go with a smaller pump because I have the flow control valve half closed. The tubing and connections provided with this product are high quality with no leaks. The only negative I can think of is the small reactor size as it relates to the amount of gfo needed for my 180 gallon reef tank. I needed to buy the high capacity gfo to be used in this reactor as there is not enough room in the reactor to hold the amount of standard gfo that would be needed.

Buy this reactor By Mr. 6 on 1/7/13
Mr. 6 would recommend this product to a friend
Overall quality is very good. had to make a few modifications to keep the canisters level. Also set this up so you can run about 5 gallons into a bucket to remove the fines from GFO, also handy when doing weekly water change. I also recommend high capacity. Replace your GFO first and run off the fines into a bucket then few hours(day) later clean your carbon canister and replace your carbon. This way the reactor will stay cleaner and run more efficiently because the GFO fines tend to settle in the bottom of the carbon reactor.
