I was a little concerned about the size of the dual reactor as I am almost totally out of space under my tank,, thankfully you can remove the hanging bracket on this witch is large,, requires removing 4 plastic screws, and it fit perfectly were I needed it to, quality is really good as all BRS products are, does its job and my tank thanks them.

If your tight with space, or need extra media to run this is a great reactor for your system. Carbon and gfo is the back bone of media to my system and it works great. Easy to install and easy to maintain. I love this this unit.
Difficult to set up and maintain By Adam on 12/3/2014

Let me preface this review by saying that this is the first reactor I've ever owned, so I don't have any reference to go by. That said, I think my experience is probably worth sharing.
First, I'll speak to the pros of this kit. If you run GFO at the recommended amount, this will take your phosphates to zero in 24 hours. Secondly, it's well-built and sturdy, and the tool they provide for unscrewing the canisters is super-helpful.
Now for the bad. When I set it up initially it didn't come with enough hose. I don't have a sump, so this is understandable, but I had to go to Home Depot and purchase 6' or so of hose to run the plumbing to and from the tank.
Secondly, you need to be very careful with the quick-connect fittings. I removed the hose from the fitting at one point, since the provided hose was too short, I unknowingly dislodged all of the rubber o-rings inside the fittings. When I finally turned the unit on, water was squirting everywhere! What a mess. It took me a few hours of frustrating and wet troubleshooting to find out what the problem was and fix it.
The biggest weakness is that eventually the carbon and GFO (I'm using the BRS stuff) will turn into a brick after 2-3 weeks of running. You'll notice the GFO stop tumbling and the flow coming from the return will slow to a trickle, since the water cannot pass through the media. Cleaning the canisters is a messy job. You have to bang the thing until the brick breaks into chunks and slides out. Then you have to wash out all the residual media and other junk.
I've also burned out one of the provided MJ pumps when the media turned into a stone. I don't think it was helped by the fact that the restrictor valve had to be almost completely closed in order to keep the GFO from over-tumbling, which puts a lot of back-pressure on the pump. That pump lasted under 2 months, and I blame the reactor design, although had I changed the media earlier this may not have happened.
Probably wouldn't buy this again. Since my tank is 55g, I definitely don't need the dual reactor. I would probably buy the single reactor and mix the carbon and gfo, which would have sufficed for my needs, although based on my experience with the BRS unit, I'd be eager to try a different brand.

I've been using the dual reactor for around 7 months with great success. The GFO takes care of my phosphates and the carbon helps polish the water to a crystal clear. I would have given it 5 stars , but I do seem to be having an issue keeping the carbon to the top of the canister using the circular filter pads. After a bit it tends to slide down. Doesn't seem to cause any issues, so I haven't gotten around to trying to correct it. Still, I highly recommend this to any reefer.

mcbridepcm would recommend this product to a friend
I like that it convenience and easy use of GFO, and GAC; however my GFO does not and will not tumble, whether it the GFO or the reactor , it's not for lack of pump GPH I have a Rio 2500 tunned down or not it doesn't get it to tumble, sense maybe it's the GFO? I know the water is flowing through the reactors and there is a small amount of GFO fine residue that occasionally get in aquarium. I do like how well built it is and convenient to access and change media, mounts easily in my cabinet, and it's footprint isn't too big. I'm not to distruat over the non-tumbling, but if it would my score would have been much higher.

Ordered this and some standard GFO, act. Carbon and the Hannah low range Phosphate test kit. Upon installation my phosphates read .06. I tested again 24 hours later and it read 0.00
Had it up and running in about 20 minutes which including mounting on wall next to sump.
NO LEAKS, with the proven slip lock configure. No issues whatsoever.
It is now integrated with my apex controller.

Everything is great although the second reactor will not stay full of water. I have bled the air off many times, checked the seal to ensure its free of any debris. Very frustrated as it does not look good with the second chamber the way it is. I pride my tank on how neat and beautiful every part is (wiring, hard lines, softlines, lighting, controllers etc). High Quality By Daniel on 10/16/2014

First reactor I've used/owned...but I did a ton of research. I have to say, if you want to do it right...have a crisp look...and good a nice bundle. This is it. The unit itself just looks sharp...very neatly put together...handling it feels great too. The fittings are nice, I like the high quality quick lock fittings. I got the pump edition...you get more than a pump...you get the whole pump in retail packing, with tons of mounting options. I personally mounted it to the side of my sump with 3 suction cups, and used the supplied strainer so large debris doesn't enter the pump...I didn't expect to get all of these goods...the operation is near silent, which is wonderful. Included ball valve is easy to adjust, and flow is good throughout the unit.
One thing I will mention, I didn't push the fittings together enough the first go around. You really really have to push the fittings together or you'll have leaks. Once I did that, dry as a bone. The tubing is semi-hard tube. You can flex it back to a straight enough form even though it comes curled up. Mounting bracket is firm, but has a little flex once the unit fills with water...it should hold, but you may want to add a rear support for the canisters to rest on, so that the bracket isn't "bending"

Purchased this a few months ago. Once again very happy with the quality of BRS products. I picked it up to replace some other name brand reactors because I hated how the top fit on and cleaning was a pain. These reactors are far superior. I love the inner tube... makes cleaning a piece of cake. The standard BRS twist on canister is a beast and I have no concerns about under tightening or breaking anything. Best reactors out there.

Set up is easy, works great. I found that leaving all sponges/filers out of the gfo side is the way to go, I originally had one at the top of the gfo, after a week that one sponge/filer plugged. Took it out and it made it work 10 times better. Hopefully it doesn't plug the next sponge/filter in line (carbon side), time will tell. Also found that by letting it hang crooked also let's the gfo tumble in a rotating motion. In my opinion it works even better crooked.

I had an algea outbreak and it was time for me to get into this reactor thing. Being new, it was a challenge to find something decent for my money. With that being said, I have mix feelings about this product. (i purchased the BRS GFO & Carbon Reactor – Dual with MJ1200 Pump)
- Easy to setup, BRS includes everything you need
- Quality is great!
- GFO and carbon in 1 setup/pump
- Properly setup and no leaks!
- You have to clean the canisters often as stuff gets caught in the bottom part so you have to empty the canister to clean it. which mean losing your media and having to replace it. once cleaned it works great
- The pipes BRS includes are hard pipes and hard to find. I needed longer than the 3 feet they sent me so i went and purchased some at my local hardware store.. mistake. the fitters didn't 'click' in enough and had leaks all over. had to revert to the 3 foot tubing which led to me installing it in a location that i didn't really want it at.
other than that I think it's a great product overall!

Works great... good quality and most importantly does not leak. It would be nice if the directions mentioned the GFO internal canister has to be inserted upside down to get the required reverse flow. I did ditch the MJ1200 and went with a manifold connection but the MJ1200 setup works ok.

Bought this a few weeks ago along with the .08 carbon and high capacity GFO. Set up easier than I thought the ball valve was nice and easy to tune the cannisters where pretty heavy, one came with a little scuff at the corner but its water tight, they screww on well and it feels like pretty good quality. Pump is easy to put together and pretty quiet quick connects are very nice.
I bought this because I had a bit of a hair alge outbreak on a spot of my tank that gets a little a sun a few hours per day. I scraped the alge off the rock and it hasnt popped back up so I think its working. The water appears to be a little more clear as well which is a plus.
Overall well built, well priced, and effective and in this hobby you really cant ask for much more than that!

This is my first time using a reactor and BRS made it simple to use. Just place the media and plug in the connections and you are ready to have a better looking tank. It takes a little tweaking to get the flow just right but once you got it there is no maintenance until the media neats to be change. What also work for me is to have the reactor as parallel as possible to have a good tumble for the GFO.

Needs some tweaking to avoid clogging if you run a lot of media. By Brennen on 3/26/2014
Brennen would recommend this product to a friend
This is a nice reactor. For my 80 gallon system with standard GFO and high bio-load it is difficult to tumble standard GFO in here without it leaving the reactor into my sump. I recommend switching the carbon to run first and GFO second. Otherwise the large amount GFO tumbles into the carbon section and clogs it within two days. I had to cut out the bottom and top of the carbon section to increase flow to tumble the GFO better in the second chamber. I basically made the plastic inserts a little wider on the intake to get better flow to avoid clogging. I cut the bottom on the 2nd chamber also but left the top alone on the exit. I have it setup now to were it never clogs. There are some good YouTube video mods if you run into this challenge like I did. Always rinse the first chamber with the second chamber empty. Then take out the second chamber put in the media and rinse that chamber and your good to go. This will save you a lot of hassle. Rinsing the carbon into tumbling GFO is a bad idea if you run them reverse like I do. Also if you run this standard rinsing GFO into the carbon side will make it clog easier. Rinse them separately starting with the first chamber. Tanks over 100 gallons, use two separate reactors. Or run this with one with an additional single reactor for extra GFO. This will allow you to tumble them properly using standard grade, unless you are willing to pay extra for high grade media.

When I first installed this item, the canisters were not vertically level and were on a crazy tilt. I had to stick a piece of wood behind it because the plastic bracket just gave way to to much of a bend and the liquids did not circulate as well as I wanted.
I called up BRS and they told me about item # 200004. Its a medal dual bracket that fits the dual reactor and is very sturdy. I installed it and everything is working perfectly and I don't need to worry about how well everything is mixing.

Great Reactor... just needs slight improvements! By Dr. Chad on 2/7/2014

I've had the reactor for just over 4 weeks, now. T have done my first GFO/Carbon change over and so far I'm impressed! The canisters come off with no issues, I'm able to do a full media swap within 10 minutes!
One of my complaints, which is mentioned in the BRS video series, is that you will find yourself having to adjust the ball valve over the period of the 4 weeks. I found myself having to adjust it at least once a week to open it more and more to allow the flow to increase over the age of the GFO.
The Second, is the plastic housing is a little flimsy. With the weight of the chambers filled with water and media, it tends to bend forward and doesn't allow the water to flow through the middle; but more towards the front. So you do not get an equal amount of water flow throughout the cambers. A simple fix for me, I grabbed a 1/4" piece of Fiberboard or MDF, cut it to size, and glued it in place, behind the mount. It has helped to push the bottom of the mount up to keep everything level for a more balanced flow of water inside the chambers.
My recommendation, to BRS, is to add a release valve on the top of the unit, similar to the single Deluxe unit. I had found air entering the first chamber constantly. The easiest way I have found to fix it, is by reducing the ball valve to barely allow water to pass through. This helps fill the chamber and push the air out of the reactor.
Overall, I'm pleased with it, and it was definitely the way to go, rather then having to buy two separate reactors!
